a great evening for a seafood lover. i love going to providence ri because of the food. with the internship program at johnson and wales, it's almost inpossible to find a poorly prepared meal.service can be a different issue.

hemenway's is no exception to qualtiy. this is seafood at it's best. everything is fresh daily and promptly prepared. seafood can be so easliy overcooked but every dish i have had, has been cooked to perfection. portions are huge, the atmosphere is relaxed witha great view of the river and downtown. service is fantastic. the wait staff is attentive but not intrusive.

i would highly recommend hemenway's to anyone visiting providence or if you're traveling up i-95 to boston, it's worth taking a break and getting off of the interstate.

poor dining experience in a pretty place.... don't let the seemingly attractive ambiance and excellent location fool you into thinking this is a good choice for dinner. unless you're a local celebrity be prepared to wait an hour after your reservation time to be given the privilege of sitting at a table and waiting another 45 minutes for ordering and receiving your food. at this point even if the lobsters came out dancing to the michigan rag it still would rates as a place to avoid unless you're famous or not really hungry. as it turns out there was no dancing lobster - which is a good thing as the waiters couldn't manage to serve the four of us our entre at the same time anyway. two plates came out - then a third 3 minutes later, then the fourth a full 15 minutes later. we couldn't even eat together. the food was nothing special. hemenway's fell far short in every category. $175 for four people (not including drinks) for the worst experience of our trip.

7/10 - the restaurant overall is pretty good but you can hit or miss on the dishes. the aperizers were great (shrimp and crab cakes) but the soups were mediocre. the same with the dishes: my seafood caserole was really good but the fish and scallops the other people sitting on the table ordered wasn't that great. if you are looking for healthy food, look elsewere, but if you are looking for decent seafood this is decent. i would rather try a new place than eat there again, but i wouldn't mind eating here again

waterside seafood perfected. if searching for delicious seafood and the freshest oysters, look no further than this fabulous restaurant. located on s.main street, this restaurant offers a wide variety of fish, shellfish, and steaks that you can guarantee are only the freshest cuts and are cooked to perfection. a highly recommended option is the lobster-bisque, or the raw oyster bar (if you're into that sort of thing as i am). service is professional and always knowledgeable, adding to the dining experience.

be sure to drop by during providence's "waterfire" evenings, as this restaurants locale will seat you with spectacular views with a classy crowd in business-casual attire. if on a time crunch, be sure to at least stop by the elegant upstairs bar that offers a great wine list and cocktail menu. hemenway's is a terrific spot for the freshest seafood, excellent service, terrific waterside location, and consistency in the dining experience.

excellent service, good food. it was my first night in providence and i was really craving seafood, so my gps sent my date and i to hemmenways. we arrived there on a thursday around 9pm and the place was packed. the inside was very well lit, with high voltage ceilings. we were seated by a window overlooking the bay. our server louise was very prompt with greeting us. she explained the menu to us in complete detail, and was pretty knowledgable about the wines. we ordered 2 glasses of wine both under 10 bucks, and they arrived in a reasonable amount of time. we then placed app orders, my date starting with the crab and lobster cakes for about 13 bucks and for me their clam chowder for 4 bucks. while we waited louise brought us a small welcome dish of a seered scallops over potatoes. we were tickled by the gesture. our apps arrived a few min later and we were blown away at how large the portion was for the crab and lobster cakes. the app consisted of 2 cakes lightly fried and served with a corn relish, they had amazing flavor. my chowder was savory and hearty, and packed with clams and potatoes. louise continued to check on us, and i appreciated how we were not rushed through our apps, or to place our entree order. when we were ready to order we decided to share there striped bass and enamame sucatosh entree. we were also given a choice of house or ceaser salad, along with a side of baked potatoe, red bliss potatoes or wild rice pilaf. again louise was very attentive, anything on the table that was not being used she cleared immediately. our ceaser salad arrived in perfect timing after we finished the apps. then came our entree after we were finished the salad. the portion was perfect and louise had the entree split into 2 plates for us. the bass was moist and the pilaf was done perfectly. the sucatosh was definately a nice added touch. for dessert we decided to go with coffee drinks and the were both hot and delicious! overall louise service made our experience wonderful, she was pleasent and professional. the food was great too. when my fam comes to visit me hemmenways is where i will take them!
