haystack burgers & barley

burgers places abound. good burger places are like finding a needle in a haystack. but finding a good burger at haystack burgers and barley is simple.

haystack is a new burger restaurant in richardson.  they advertise burgers and barlay and carry a few signature burgers and sandwiches. the day we were there they had a special burger with avocado and a chili pepper ranch dressing. we also ordered the pitch fork chili burger from their regular menu and a serving of fries. they said the burgers would be served medium, which was fine by me. i trusted that they would make it perfect medium since they were so particular with it during the order. the burgers came out within 10 minutes, which was quite all right. these days all new burger restaurants serve their burgers on metal trays and haystack was no exception. i guess that’s what’s trending now for burger joints. the bun looked good and both burgers had a wonderful smell of meat and goodness. after the first bite, i knew that this was not working out like i expected. the burger was well done and quite dry. it was also mad

excellent burgers. these were the best hamburgers i have had in many years, and i've tried every burger place around.

i almost wrote a bad review of haystack. as we waited for our food, with only 11 customers, the noise was so bad we decided to never come back. hard walls, no rugs, exposed ceiling made this place echo with sound.

but then the food came and they were redeemed. we all had haystack burgers - cheese, bacon, fried onions, bbq sauce (i think).

they say they cook medium, but these looked medium rare. this isn't my normal preference but it worked. no one thing stood out - it all melded into a marvelous burger!

since their grand opening was this week, by the time we left the place was full, and extremely loud. next time we'll come to lunch early, but we will go back.

my everytime selection for my favourite burger.... best place in this are for my knowledge.... best experience and awesome mood is present here always...

we have a burger aficionado (to say the least) living in our home, and we take great care in choosing burgers. we have gone to many burger places all over town, and we always come back to haystack. we often order our son’s burger by his name...they cook their burgers here! you don’t get raw meat. also, the service staff is friendly & personable… it’s wonderful to have a great neighborhood place to eat a juicy delicious burger. oh, and our son loves the shakes, as well. go there! you will not be disappointed… i promise!

we read online about this place having the best shakes in plano area. a special mention about banana shake: it was such a thick shake, with great intensity of banana in it and towards the end i found crums of biscuit, which was my favorite part. i really dig thick shakes. my friend had oreo shake, which was good, but not as good as banana one.

i have been dining at haystack since they opened and the food and service are always excellent! my favorite is the haystack salad with grilled chicken. avocado, bacon & cheese, fried onion strings also are served with the salad, too. all of the hamburgers are great.

the beer selection is nice, as they offer some of the best local brews in the area. i'm especially fond of mosaic ipa. my son loves the haymaker, a frozen bourbon drink.

the atmosphere is casual and appeals to families, couples, singles, well... everyone! you order at the desk, you are given a number, and then one of the staff brings your order to your table. they will also bring you more drinks (both alcoholic & non alcoholic) and anything else you need.

the food was okay . this is a review over service i found who i assume to be the owner rude. my only assumption is because i was black. everytime i have been in their establishment i have felt unwelcome. i noticed she was super nice and friendly with other patrons. i gave it three shot before i have no refused to eat there again based mainly on the treatment of myself and my young soon.

people of color stay away.

awesome bacon cheeseburger cooked medium to perfection. served with lettuce , tomatoes, string fried onion & pickles. i opted out of the picked served on a brioche toasted bun. awesome burger that was moist & delicious.

very good burger place. my son raves about the patty melts. i like the more traditional burgers. each burger is large and juicy and well prepared. the fries are also very good. the onion rings are also quite good i just wish their dipping sauce was a thicker consistency. the place is always packed and the end up having to find you a seat. this also means it isn't a good place for a leisurely meal. that said it is a must try if you like good burgers

this place was great for a vegetarian and her carnivore. the veggie burger option hit the spot! the single serve mound of fries was plenty for two.

after a movie at alamo drafthouse next door, we decided to grab a bite to eat at haystacks & barley. we had been there a few times before and each time it’s been an excellent food experience.

om: i’ve had some dang good burgers since nom and i started our food journey, and haystacks always sticks out as the best burger experience out of them all! the interior of the restaurant could be described as industrial…i think, i’m not an expert in that stuff. no matter, it’s nice and fits with the food they serve. the service is friendly and helpful – they don’t have a wait staff and just deliver the burger to your table. the burger is simply outstanding. i had the haystacks burger, which had lettuce, tomato, cheese, bbq sauce, and onion strings. the burger is stacked high with toppings, i definitely used a napkin or five by the time i finished. the meat patty is the best tasting that i’ve had, and the combo of that plus the mentioned toppings really makes it an awesome and unique taste. we also ordered a “half and half”, half fries and half onion strings, which were also very good. 5/5 for me, best burger i’ve had.

nom: we love haystacks burgers. when i think of where we should have a burger they come to mind and i lament how far they are from us! an added bonus is the fact they are right next door to the alamo drafthouse. i really like the interior, it’s kind of industrial but not so much so that it’s uncomfortable. it’s always been clean when we’ve gone and this trip was no exception. they serve a huge burger! i originally ordered the haystack but realized that it was far too big a burger for me and there would be no way i could finish it even if i just tried to have half. so i downsized…i had a cheeseburger with bacon, lettuce, pickles and mayo. there are a lot of places where they do not ask how you want your burger cooked but they do because the burger is nice and thick not some thin burger by any stretch! i had mine ordered medium rare and they nailed it! which was amusing since there was an upscale steakhouse that way overcooked a very expensive steak. it was juicy and tender and the toppings were nice and cold and crisp! i shared the 50/50 but was so full i couldn’t eat much but the haystack onions were cooked perfectly. they make the best burger i’ve personally ever enjoyed!

awesome food. great beer.. this place does it right. their burgers are delicious and always cooked perfectly. they have a good selection of toppings as well as some soup and salad options as well, which i have tried and are great. they also have a great local draft beer selection as well as 30+ national craft beers in bottle/can. you have to check this place out!!! you will not be dissapointed.

sorry for the dissenting voice. haystack atmosphere and service are top notch. i really enjoyed the layout. it's relaxing. every employee i ran into smiled and said something polite. my haystack burger was bad. i ordered it medium rare (pink in the middle). it came out with a hard burnt char on the exterior and dry in the middle. all the moist flavor was cooked out of it. there was too much bbq sauce. it was running out of the sandwich before i picked it up. there was so much that all of the bacon was covered, and i could not get any of the bacon flavor through it. i did not finish my burger, which is a really rare thing for me.

i hope my burger was accidentally over cooked and too much bbq added. if a group wanted to visit, i would tag along for one more try. the atmosphere and service earned a chance to try it again; however, there are too many really good options to make this a first choice for me.

really liked this place!!!. stopped by here on an early saturday afternoon before seeing a movie next door - wanted to give it a try due to the high ratings.

nom'd - haystack burger, fries, onion rings

my run of great burger joints continued with a visit to haystack burgers. located right next to the alamo drafthouse, the theater and restaurant seem to compliment each other in a lot of ways.

it wasn't very busy when i walked in, good for us i guess. i went with the haystack burger, which was a cheeseburger with bacon, bbq sauce, and fried onion strings. not something i normally get but wanted to try their specialty burger.

i will say that the wait time to actually get the burger was longer than it probably should have been, taking over 10 minutes to get out...and the restaurant was not that busy. the wait was worth it though! i asked my burger to be cooked "medium", and they did a dang good job of meeting that expectation! it's hard to get a ground beef cooked like that, so nice work. burger was thick with toppings galore (see pic). they didn't slather it with bbq sauce which i was afraid of, managing just the right amount to not make it sloppy. burger tasted great.

fries were crisp and seasoned well, fried onion strings were equally as good. a little bit pricey for the amount that you get (ordered the "half & half"), but as long as the food is good i don't have too much of a problem.

though i wish the food would have gotten to us a bit faster - i can't imagine what the wait is like when the place is busy - the food was something i would come back for again and again. a very good choice for a dang good burger. score it a "like" from me.
