half shell oyster house

this was my first time eating here and the food was fine.  but the service from the check in was horrible.  we had a party of 13 to celebrate my mother in law birthday and was told it would be about 15 minute wait.  well of course that wasn't true.  we waited over 45 minutes.  to add insult to injury, the manager politely sat a group in the back that had not been waiting anytime.  once my husband saw this he complained and another server told him that the manager had personal ties with that party.  we were finally seated and the server was great. the food was great but don't plan on going back anytime soon.

my wife ordered the fried green tomatoes and crab cakes. the crab cakes had some type of fibrous material in them that the chef stated was from the claw meet. i search the internet and could not find an example of this anywhere. the material did look like some type of natural fiber but was completely unpleasant to the dining experience. check your crab cakes next time. i had the seafood pasta with the sweet potato creme brulee. my meal was great, but sending my wife's meal back made for an unpleasant overall experience. the restaurant did remove the meal from our bill and offered to remake the item, so i applaud them for their effort.

party of 3 received and seated efficiently and politely. copper ridge merlot was nice. 1 doz oysters bienville excellent. 1 doz. raw oysters cold fresh and delicious. all oysters were good size. seafood pasta was very good, topped with numerous large lumps of crab meat. half shell pasta topped with fried oysters:  pasta b, oysters a. grouper might have been grouper, but i doubt it. waitress was professionally pleasant and perfect. well worthy of future visits.

this was my second visit to half shell, and it was just as good as the first. it was after 6 on a sat and there was already a 20 min wait to be seated. the décor is a pleasant new orleans vibe. the menu slants toward seafood but is large enough to find something else if need be. service is very good but most surprising with a packed house was how quickly the food arrived.

we started off with the crab & lobster dip which is incredibly rich and delicious. it comes with bread rounds that i prefer were toasted. we then had the gumbo and half shell salad as substitutes for one of the sides. both were excellent. the entrees we tried were grouper and the grilled seafood sampler. the grouper was herb and parmesan encrusted over sautéed spinach and covered in jumbo lump crab meat. it appeared to be a small piece of fish on a small plate, but it was stacked high and very filling. the side vegetables are almost large enough to share. the seafood sampler contained shrimp, oysters, grouper, and crab cake. the pieces were small but overall satisfying.

highly recommended and i look forward to returning. hard to believe this is a chain.

food is great. love this place. my low rating is for the man who decided to build it in a strip mall and make it so small. my wife and i would come more often but who wants to get at a place before 6:00 pm and be told you have an hour wait? too many other good places to eat to have to deal with that.

very, very good! i had the mahi mahi with pineapple salsa. the fish was good but that salsa was absolutely delicious and i already want more. key lime pie for dessert was the perfect way to finish. service was excellent. i will be back.

one of the best things that's happened to flowood! the oysters are fresh and flavorful. the chargrilled ones anyway. had a collection of apps for a late lunch on a saturday. i'd have to say from the order in which the hit the table to the dipping sauce. it is all very good seafood!

super delicious oysters! the oyster sampler is awesome because you can try 4 different varieties. went for lunch on a weekend and there was no wait and food came out very fast. great lunchtime drink specials as well. delicious food, great ambiance, highly recommend!!

went here with an old friend from the navy visiting the wife and i. he loves the food from the south ever since we took him on an oyster tour in nola last year. we loved the flavors and all of our apps, drinks and entrees we're delicious. wifey had shrimp n grits, shipmate had the reds, deep water shrimp, that do indeed taste lobster-like, and i had redfish orleans. our service was perfect - the waitress was attentive, knowledgeable of the menu and perfectly timed the flow of our meal. my only negative feedback would be that the oysters are tiny for the price. the sauce is amazing, but never seen oysters so small before. charging $2.00/each for them is just adding insult to injury. i'd love to eat here again, but would rather get oysters at acme house or drago's.

we were here with a group of 8. all the food ordered was good. the service was excellent. i have said all i want to say, but zomato requires 140 characters.

guaranteed the same oysters at every location. good atmosphere and my waiter was attentive. i had to sit in the bar area but this location has booths so not a bad seat. i had special instructions for preparing my side dishes and they were cooked to order. try everything , this place mass produces food but it's worthy of repeat visits.

we ate on a weekend around lunch time. service was pretty slow. we got the fried green tomato and crab cakes app. it was really good! the entrees had great flavor, they were just barely warm though. that was super disappointing. i did tell the waitress and she apologized. it was one of the most expensive lunches i've ever eaten, because there's not a lunch menu available on the weekend.

this place has the smallest oysters i've ever seen and they charge you a couple bucks for each one. drinks are way over priced. nice atmosphere and decent service. if i come back i will not order oysters or the terrible crab cakes.

good new addition located in flowood, ms in the dogwood area. recently opened. good food. great service!!!!! if you like seafood and oyster, this is the place.

absolutely one of favorite restaurants! if you're a seafood lover, i highly recommend half shell. went here on opening night and everything was perfect, from the oysters orleans, seafood pasta, redfish orleans and the sautéed crab claws orleans! (ok, i love the orleans sauce...savory & spicy). the bar offers a terrific top "shell" margarita and the glass of riesling was a perfect accompaniment to our meal. the servers and management staff made sure we were well taken care of. it was a great experience. lunch, dinner or happy hour, i'll be back.
