living in the area for many years, i had driven past here many times and hardly registered its existence. i came for lunch with a friend and ordered the red hen sandwich; it was good but nothing special. the service was not at all good; waiting a while to be served, and was the let down of the experience.

what a hidden gem in the heart of gardens. again - another one of those places i had never tried despite driving past it almost every single day. in spanish "gusto" means "i like"- trust me when i say there is nothing not to gusto here. chad michael henson

their breakfast is amazing, as is their coffee. go for the benedict - honestly, melt in your mouth good. i absolutely love that you can swap out true croissant for a bed of asparagus - my fellow glutards and health-nuts- these are our people! i have it on good authority from the bf and benedict connoisseur that the croissant was great, and that the hollandaise is "mmmm".

the staff is attentive and friendly and the vibe is cute, and slightly european. when we were there a table of spanish tourists were sitting at the table next to us comparing it to their neighborhood spot back home.

they also have fresh juices, and yummy coffee. all in all an absolute winner and a new favorite for me. pop in on the weekend or on your way to work for a delicious start to your day!

popped in at gusto after a meeting in the area, with fond memories of their abundant, healthy lunchtime buffet. it seems that the cafe is under new management because the buffet was gone, save for some very basic and rather sad-looking green beans, potatoes and lentils. oh well. after perusing the pamphlet-style menu, i opted for a 'red hen' toasted sandwich on rye bread, which was delicious and thoughtfully constructed. my coffee was also perfect, and came quickly. the service was very friendly and welcoming. i'll have to go again and try something else. i've heard that the baked goods are particularly good.

got to check out this little gem just before class and it was heavenly. i opted for a gusto breakfast and instead of having bread i had a croissant which was perfect. my eggs looked too pretty to eat. i had a citrus zing juice. im a sucker for freshly squeeze juices, especially ones with ginger. i got to taste the oats too which had fresh banana pieces and nuts and seeds. its was heavenly. loved the minimalistic approach they go for with setup. and i loved that they have little blankets on each chair for when it gets a tad too chilly. will be back soon.

thanks to zomato (once again) we found gusto which serves all-day breakfast (after a long night and late morning ?) gusto was really cool, chilled vibe, clean outdoor tables with really friendly service. coffee and breakfast was great, lovely presentation and fantastic quality. despite being on a narrow road, it was a little noisy with the cars passing by, but if you get over that, then gusto is an awesome little restaurant to visit!

what a great start to a tuesday morning.
popped into gusto for a "before work brekkie".

absolutely delish coffee. ordered the croissant french toast! yummy! the combination of my two fav breakfast items!

i love the vibe. it's like having breakfast in your own back yard. such a chilled vibe.

friendly service! even at 7:30 in the morning!

will definitely be returning very soon!

now this is a real hidden gem. i helped myself to the generous harvest table (who doesn't love a harvest table?!), which consisted of a range of salads and the fluffiest, tastiest frittata i've ever had. apparently the dishes on the table change every day, depending on what the chef feels like cooking - which adds to the homely charm of this lovely cafe. everything on my plate was delicious, and it cost me just r48. at that price, and because everything i ate was so fresh and healthy, i didn't feel too guilty about splitting the famous gusto cheesecake with david mcdonald for dessert. i'd heard lots about it and i'd still say that my expectations were exceeded - the crust was perfect (often a deal-breaker for me) and i kinda wish i'd ordered my own portion. i'll be back for the eggs benedict, which i've been told is some of the best in the city...
