we’re not quite sure when the grilled cheese truck officially opened for business, but we first heard about it several months back and knew we would have to make it an option on our g restaurant poll.

oh  the grilled cheese truck ... i cannot believe it has taken this long for our paths to cross!...but was the 1 hour+ line worth the wait?   you better believe it!!! i had narrowly missed my chance to dine at this much hyped truck several times...

wasn't a big fan of this place in the past. grilled cheese sandwiches marked up and served out of a truck? recipe for disaster. but the grilled cheese truck continues to be one of the most acclaimed and popular food trucks in the city. so when it came by my work a few weeks ago, i gave it another shot (despite the long line). ordered their signature cheesy mac and rib grilled cheese sandwich, which has mac and cheese with sharp cheddar, bbq pork, and caramelized onions. unlike many other trucks that serve stuff you can easily make at home, at least it seems like a lot of care went into the sandwiches here, despite their simple appearance. bread well-grilled, mac and cheese authentically cheesy, bbq pork cooked pretty well, and caramelized onions soft and sweet - all of these complementary components going into a heavy and hearty sandwich. nothing amazing really, but satisfying to the simple boy in me. chris hei grade: b the grilled cheese truck twitter: @grlldcheesetruk

i have a love-hate relationship with this truck or at least i do when it comes to this visit. the grilled cheese sandwiches are great but getting to them in terms of wait time and a lack of common courtesy on they're part can be frustrating. even more frustrating this time around for myself.

i'm use to waiting in long lines for food so no complaints there. the line was moving very slow however and after 27mins exactly (i watched the time)... i made it to the window, placed my order and proceeded to pay with my debit card only to be told they aren't accepting debit at the time. my jaw literally dropped. there was an atm near by but that's beside the point. this is something that should have been announced the moment they opened their windows and began taking orders. i had been standing there since they opened their windows and not a single announcement was made. on top of that, there was no go and get cash then come back to the window for your wait, you had to get back to the end of the line.

luckily, it was movie night in a park and this was the primary reason i was there so it wasn't a thing where i drove out specifically for the truck otherwise i would have been upset. i let the line die down a little before getting back into it and i watched as they turned away many people with cards and yet still failed to make an announcement saying cash only. i was hoping at some point it would register with them and they'd at least tape up a note saying cash only over their "we accept debit/credit" sticker but it never happened. for the people who were standing around me, i gave them the heads up and they instantly went to go grab cash thanking me for the warning. there's my good deed on a friday night haha.

the grilled cheese once received was delicious as always. i do enjoy the pulled pork and mac & cheese on the cheesy mac & ribs sandwich. the food itself is whats stopping this visit from getting hit with two stars. a heads up from the staff would be nice next time especially for fans of the truck who are willing to wait in a long line as well as wait for the food to be prepared because the wait for both combined is pretty lengthily.

whether you are looking for that simple grilled cheese or something more exotic, this menu has an answer to the search. the cheese offerings start with the routine american and extend to a creamy brie (on cranberry walnut bread) or gruyere with lots of savory additions and interesting sides.

the most well known grilled cheese offered by the grilled cheese truck is the cheesy mac and rib on basic white bread. this sandwich combined some of my favorite things; cheese, grilled onions, succulent pulled pork, and mac n cheese. with those ingredients you really can’t go wrong as long as the bread gets nice and crispy.

i’m pretty sure i put this away in under ten mouthfuls it was so good, and if we weren’t going on to somewhere else for more food, i would have had another. a bang up job, and a must for anyone in l.a. who has only got time to visit a handful of food trucks.

i tried the 'cheesy mac' (macaroni and cheese with sharp cheddar......$5.50) & a half bag of tater tots ($1.75). i wasn't quite sure what to think as i ate it...the jury's still out. it's an interesting concoction; basically a plate of mac-n-cheese between two pieces of bread...

who doesn't like a grilled cheese sandwich? it is a childhood standard meal. i always think of those kraft cheese commercials where they split open a grilled cheese sandwich, and all that gooey cheese starts stretching out. man, i love that commercial. the cheese has to be the star of a grilled cheese. though they do have regular grilled cheese sandwiches, the ones i ordered weren't ordinary at all. the grilled cheese truck uses cheese, and they use the good stuff from tillamook . i don't really know if they are a partner or they just use exclusively that brand, but the cheese is top notch. you can check out some of their recipes there too. what's better than grilled cheese that mac and cheese? the cheesy mac and rib, undoubtedly one of their most famous sandwiches, had macaroni and cheese made with sharp cheddar, bbq pork, and caramelized onions. surprisingly, the bbq pork was the star. it wasn't dry or bland. the the consistency was mush on mush, the mac and cheese was cheesy and del

posted on january 8, 2010 by southbayrantsnraves lately i've found that los angeles has many food trucks. i was first introduced to the idea of food trucks when i just moved here back in 2006. back then my mom told me about this taco truck that she'd like for me to try. i didn't think anything of it and for the most part, those were the only types of trucks i'd see in the area. that is until i started this blog and joined twitter. through other foodie blogs, and twitter, i found out that in addition to taco trucks, la offers a plethora of trucks. the grilled cheese truck is the first of many i've set out to review. grilled cheese truck i arrived at sunset and cole at 11:45 and immediately spotted the yellow truck that would serve the most simple, yet comforting sandwich. i started taking pictures when one of the staff started to set up. two women joined the line and asked the man whose idea this was? i stopped to listen. i didn't get his name but he kindly said "it was me, i'm the one

nothing says comfort like a good old grilled cheese sandwich! southern california’s grilled cheese truck was born after their founders entered their cheesy mac & rib melt into la’s 7th annual grilled cheese invitational.
