gregoire is the best at what it does - period. get here early in the morning and see how your breakfast really should be made. their quiche has stuck on with me to this day and i've travelled far and wide but nothing has come remotely close. i'm going to judge every quiche by their standards and every one else has failed. and then you've got the pastries and the pudding and your heart may just explode from the love on the plate but it doesn't. it just wants more and more. i'm tempted to fly out there just to perch myself on their outdoor benches and devour their breakfast.

here’s something you don’t often see: takeout breakfast. sure, you can get eggy sandwiches, pastries and baked goods to go at many morning eateries, coffee shops and bakeries. but a delightful, lovingly made-to-order, full-meal creation? you can eat in at gregoire restaurant , in berkeley, california. but there are so few tables and counter seats at this very definition of hole-in-the-wall that chances are you’ll be like pretty much everyone else and taking your brekkie to go.

...the verdict: 9/10 – extremely tasty gourmet sandwiches and french fare at very affordable prices and in a casual setting.

don’t forget to order: crispy potato puffs (a signature here) and the lamb sandwich

to try next time: the dinner menu

for those who have never been, i would recommend their popular potato puffs ($4.5) to start. they've gotten a bit smaller over the years, but still taste just as good! also, it might be smart to order online beforehand and to keep the group limited to maybe five people tops, if you plan on grabbing a seat on site.

a dream come true. ever felt like restaurant quality food for take away? i often do and when i visited berkeley for the first time a couple of years ago i happened upon gregoire.

what a happy day, the food is inexpensive and wonderful, the best gratin potatoes i've ever had anywhere (including paris) and you can get them anytime of the day!

the lunch specials are amazing, this year i had pork belly with aioli & onion jam on sour dough, with berlotti bean salad for $7!!!

if only i had the money to bring gregoire to newtown (sydney), it would be a license to print money.

anyway, i’m a big fan of gregoire and was a recurring customer for the 4 years i was at berkeley. it’s a great concept – fancy french takeout

i want to start with the bad before we get to the good so this post will go first. ms. lin had done some research on what to try as we made our way to berkeley. at first i was a bit excited to try grégoire because it was suppose to be a french bistro, or

cute little place. i love the atmosphere of this place--with its open kitchen, small counter inside and 2 picnic tables outside. the duck breast sandwich with cole slaw that we had was flavorful and the duck well prepared. i did not like the potato puffs (as my friend describes it--tater tots with mashed potato filling) as much as i thought i would given my love for potatoes prepared in both ways. would love to try some of the other sandwiches at this charming little place.
