usually good. we are regular weekly customers at the bakery and every now and then in the morning we have breakfast. the "eggs provencale" are terrific. try the vanilla lavender citronade. on tapas tuesday we have also sampled the moules marinieres/ mussels and shrimp and capellini. you will not be disappointed and she offers a good value.

------------------------------------------
in mid-december we visited for lunch. it was about 1:15 and the place was kinda empty. we followed the sign to "seat yourself." but every table had crumbs and dirty dishes. we located the cleanest table for two near the kitchen.

we split a soupe a l'oignon… french onion soup and chicken cordon bleu sandwich.

being a french restaurant we expected french savory and delicious but the soup was tasteless and mediocre at best. we expected the chicken cordon bleu sandwich to be thin/ pounded chicken cutlets folder together with the ham and cheese and lightly sauteed or fried---as it should be. or the cheese and ham inserted into a sliced chicken breast. but no, it was a piece of chicken, a piece of ham, a piece of lettuce, a faint hint of cheese or maybe even a sauce all piled together---it was only french in name.
------------------------------------------
in january 2011 we purchased a spinach quiche to take home---tasty but the crust was thick and dry---a bad pie crust---not at all flacky and not very cheesy.
------------------------------------------
we also brought home a raspberry mouse cake that was terrific and we'll try other pastries.
------------------------------------------
but their bread is delicious and the best we have found in tucson.

viva la france !. a real touch of france, found on grant and prince, in the traditional french-style cooking. there's a bread & pastry bakery there too. the breakfasts are great. the french toast is a little too thick, and someone needs to tell the owner that, so i hope she reads this. but all in all, and i've been there 3 times, i walked out satisfied each time. the signature dish is eggs with stewed tomatoes, with a special herb. don't forget to ask for baguettes. you might ask for extra meat in the sandwiches. their pastas are good also.

taste the passion and love of cooking. ghinis french caffe will be celebrating its 18th year in tucson this july. chef/owner coralie satta built this amazing tucson gem around her incredible love for food. she is in the cafe everyday and when you talk to her, you hear the passion in her voice. her lifelong goal is to make everyone who walks into her cafe happy through their stomachs. coralie believes dining should be an experience, not just a necessary part of your day. we have many great restaurants in tucson, but my car seems to gravitate to ghinis at least once or twice a week! i encourage you to support a tucson icon!
p.s. - ghinis is pronounced gee knees. ghini was a nickname given to her by her father as a young girl.
