funk 'n waffles

not a fan. 30 mins waiting on the famous chicken and waffles to find out they were defrosting the chicken still!! got a refund and is in the basement of places to go at su now.

my fiancé and i just ate at funk n waffles. as previous reviews stated, the walk down to the restaurant is a bit sketchy but once here, the atmosphere is great! what's more, the waffles were delicious! we had the jive turkey and the all shook up and they were both fantastic!

great food, and awesome eclectic decorations. was pleasantly surprised by the food and restaurant because the entry to it, down some sketchy stairs to the basement, didn't give me confidence. but well worth the adventure. would go again for sure. order at the counter and don't be afraid to ask questions! enjoy.

ordered the bacon stuffed waffle with egg and cheese. i wasn't really sure if this was going to taste like a normal breakfast or blow me away. it blew me away. perfectly made and dead on taste wise. i'm not a huge waffle fan, but funk'n waffles could change that!

it was hard to find. if you are not from the area and following the map be sure to look up. there is a sign above a hair place that sends you down the alley and some sketchy stair case to a different world. it's very nice inside this place.

a long time lover of funk n waffles but this was our first time at the downtown location. the original location on marshall st "funk n waffles university" food wise is much better. we ordered the bootsy brunch and chicken & waffles as main dishes with the kale-blueberry smoothie and hot chocolate. the atmosphere and drinks were so great! the boosty brunch didn't disappoint but the chicken &waffles was over cooked with a hard dark brown waffle and overly crisped chicken wings. however, still a lover of this new place but the original & first location never disappoints.

the place is grrroooossssss!!!. no reason to go except that is 'cool' to like it.

walking into funk n waffles i was immediately hit by the smell of deliciousness. coffee and sweet batter was mixed with fried breakfast meats and fruit. my stomach started a loud conversation and i needed to shut it up. after grabbing a giant coffee i was faced with the unexpected. i had to pick a waffle. i thought i would walk into the restaurant, grab a coffee, order a waffle and be done with my tummy quarrels. i didn’t think making a decision would be so difficult. funk n waffles offers both sweet and savory waffles. the choices were endless. if their combos of toppings and fillings were not enough, you can also create your own waffle. luck for me i had an ace up my sleeve. my husband knows me well and can make a decision for my stomach when my brain fails me. kenin went up to the counter to place a “mystery order” for me and i sat back sipping coffee and admiring the artwork on the walls.

the food was spectacular and the vibe is excellent. however, the counter service is confusing and the wait time is a little excessive.

don't come if you are in a hurry. and if you order the monte crisco (waffle, fried egg, ham & swiss) be sure to say if you don't want a runny yolk. i didn't and they kindly remade mine rather than just nuking it. the meal was delicious. if you get it be sure to add a small bit of syrup. yum!

waited 1.5 hours for 2 waffles and they weren't even that amazing when we got them. not impressed.

the waffles are amazing, especially the chicken and waffles with hot sauce and turkey/stuffing waffles. if you can get past the cluttered, unorganized, and somewhat dirty/hippie interior, you'll love the food.

great food, fun atmosphere, and funky music! the waffles are cheap and there are always new and fun options even with create your own!!

2 and half years ago i graduated from syracuse university. i spent 4 years of my life in syracuse, ny and made some best of my friends in life. syracuse is in the middle of no where, who would imagine there is actually a lot good food there like dinosaur bbq, insomnia cookies, funk n waffles, pastabilities’ spicy tomato oil- a syracuse signature, unique tea house – best green tea bubble tea ive had entire life, cream puffs, fish burgers, and so much more. sherry, my best friend from college, went back to syracuse for grad school. i went back to visit her last fall in september. i was there only for 2 days so couldnt eat everything i wanted. first thing first, i had to get some green tea bubble tea from unique tea house . hands down, best green tea milk tea ive had in my life. i believe its made of real green tea instead of fake power stuff. very rich and real green tea taste. all those all nighter’s, this green tea milk tea helped me to stay awake better than coffee would. cream puffs,

good gluten-free options. they have buckwheat and falafel waffles which are gluten free and can make any combination of the toppings. everything is made fresh and is tasty. the wait is on the longer side.
