friendly and attentive staff. when we went it wasn’t too busy. this place is clean and neat, and the cocktail list is great. highly recommend the espresso martini!

chic establishment, well presented dishes, a lack of creativity but the service is top notch. would recommend for a formal lunch with the in-laws!

this established islington restaurant is tucked away in camden passage. it has maintained the same theme since it's opening thirty years ago, classy french cuisine. i love the open, bright interior, the walls decked with large modern artworks and plants scattered amongst the tables to give diners more privacy. in the summer, you can sit in the charming walled garden. the cocktail bar is just as loved as the restaurant itself, offering a variety of delicious and creative cocktails. i cannot resist their classic peach bellini.

the menu changes seasonally but always offers a range of mouthwatering choices and maintains some of it's classic dishes. one of my favourite dishes i have eaten here is a scallops and chorizo starter, cooked perfectly and packed with flavour. prices are quite high so this is a place to save for special occasions but the atmosphere and food are definitely worth it and they also offer a great set menu for £19.

fredrick's is a nice, elegant restaurant, it's quite pricey but that's justified by the high-end food and service and the beautiful look of the place. walking by, this place doesn't look like much from the outside which is a shame but inside it's very nice. i recommend sitting in the garden area which is a large, beautiful veranda with large white tables.

the service is very professional but quite slow, i think that's done on purpose to encourage customers to stay longer and have a nice leisurely lunch. i like that idea on the weekend but if it's the middle of the week and you're in a rush that's kind of annoying. we spent a lot of our time trying to get the attention of the waiters and asking them to pay more attention to us.

i really liked the food, they have smaller dishes and a lot of classic dishes like a delicious trio of tartare and a great gazpacho.

frederick’s - review - 17th april 2012
i’d been recommended to try frederick’s, which is a lovely looking family run restaurant and bar on camden passage in islington. it’s size is deceptive from first glance with little tables seated outside, but once inside it stretches far back into a big conservatory with a high ceiling. it is spacious and decorated plainly but very tastefully with neat white tablecloths on each table.

the menu at frederick’s has a european feel with quite a spanish influence and has enough choice but you can see each dish has clearly been carefully chosen to give a well thought out and varied menu.

frederick’s serves a set menu all evening on monday’s and tuesday’s until 6.45pm other week nights which is 3 courses and coffee for £19. the normal menu is much more expensive with main courses averaging at around £20 so the set menu is really good value. we decided to opt for that.

after being served some delicious homemade focaccia and sampling a couple of cocktails (the amaretto sour was very good and complete with maraschino cherries), my diner tried the ribs and i had padron peppers with chorizo and rocket for starter. the ribs were tender and juicy and coated in a tasty sauce and the chorizo was smoky and went perfectly with the slight bitterness of the peppers and peppery rocket.

for main, i decided to keep to the spanish theme and went for the salt cod fritters with tomatoes and aioli and my friend had the lamb with couscous. the latter was cooked to perfection with the lamb just a little pink and wonderfully juicy and the jus complimented the couscous allowing it not to be too dry. the fritters were soft and fluffy and just melted in the mouth.

for dessert we decided to share both cheese and biscuits and a pudding. the dessert consisted of little sugar coated doughnuts which were like mexican churos and came with a naughty but nice praline creme. the cheese board came with water biscuits, cornish yarg and grapes and the cheese was good but i couldn’t help feel that more than one cheese would have made it much better as it was a little bland.

we finished with a warming cup of fresh coffee and some little handmade truffles which was the perfect end to a great meal.

the service in frederick’s is fantastic and you really are looked after from the moment you arrive. staff are always on hand to top up your water, pour wine and just generally look after you and make you feel special and wanted, which is how it should be when you go out for dinner. the restaurant itself had a really cosy, pleasant feel to it and it’s wonderfully romantic and a perfect place to go with your partner for dinner.

i think i may have found one of my new favourite london restaurants. frederick’s, i will definitely be back again soon.

mixed reviews on this one - i only came in for a drink. location, and atmos is fantastic but the price is a little bit steep. cost c£15 for two drinks (including service) which seems steeps given i ordered at the bar and they were brought over (not at my request)

worth a visit if you want to go right in and experience the whole sit down restaurant element but if you are just sitting down for a drink outside its probably not worth the premium

originally from the veneto region, in the north east of italy, it’s a mixed drink that has become widespread in the rest of the country. spritz is made with prosecco, aperol, soda, and a slice of orange.

there are always positives and negatives in eating at friends' restaurants, and usually the positives and negatives go hand in hand: one is expected to give completely honest and utterly critical feedback, one gets fed beyond belief…..it's a hard life, believe me! at the end of the day though, what it comes down to is just being honest - regardless of whether or not a friend has cooked for you, they expect your honest opinion, and naturally, you want to give it to them. it's a small price to pay for being fed lots of good food, don't you think? and normally, it's food revenge - i've fed ms so heavily every time he came ate at my restaurant, it was natural that i was going to get the full monty! . the last time i tried going to fredericks, the riots broke out and i ended up at the gilbert scott, which wasn't bad going, but it still meant that i had to put off fredericks for another day. this time round, the sun was shining and london was peacefully soaking up all the rays. after placi
