while traveling down to oceanside oregon with my family this summer i planned our trip so that we’d be able to make a stop at the fort george pub and brewery  in astoria. i had heard great things about their beers but nothing about the food they serve.

not all it is cracked up to.. the beer was pretty good but a little spendy for a pitcher.

the waitress implied i had had enough to drink. i can only assume was because when she came to our table, i was leaning over towards my wife to whisper something in her ear. not sure what that has to do with the price of tea in china. someone is automatically wasted if they are trying to say something to someone in private. whatever!

will not be back.

pizza upstairs, pub food downstairs, but the beer is the same. we have meant to try fort george for years and finally did for lunch. we were thinking of their pub menu but learned they had pizza and calzone's upstairs. what we did not realize was nothing on the downstairs menu is served upstairs. we split a caesar salad, a bit overpriced for what we got but it was good, and a sausage calzone, which was very good. the view is better upstairs, but if you want burgers or pub food you need to eat downstairs. there is also outdoor seating downstairs. the full beer menu is available in both. our service was friendly and good.

we couldn’t pass up ft. george. we sampled a few beers, grabbed some fish tacos and hit the road. we really wanted their pizza, but it’s only available upstairs and after like 4 or 5. when we were there on sunday this place was hopping. on monday it was much easier to get into. it’s a very popular place, check this place out too.

this place has great potential. unfortunately, it falls pretty flat. prices are a little high, food is mediocre (that's being generous) and the service is baaaad.
a group of us went here on a saturday afternoon--seven of us, 30-somethings all, well dressed, polite. we waited for about 30 minutes for a table. no huge deal. they offered us a place upstairs, but they only offer a minimal menu in that dining room. also, i saw a few of the servers from up there. they looked very...unclean.... that was strange, but it's astoria, after all...
we all squeezed into a booth finally, after being told it was that or another 30 minute wait. they wouldn't allow us to put an extra chair at the end. but the booth was large, so while it was cozy, it wasn't too bad.
our server came over and was immediately unfriendly. she wasn't terribly good at hiding what she was thinking, and she was definitely put out by such a large party. we tried to make jokes and loosen her up, good naturedly, but politely. she wasn't having it. everyone ordered beers, my partner and i ordered the beer samplers. she again seemed put out with this and told us it was "gonna take a while to put that together".
everyone else got their beers and we ordered food. eventually our beer tasters arrived. the server perked up then and explained each beer (15 total) in good, useful detail. that was appreciated. the beers really ranged. some were amazing, some were really bad. i think i liked 4 or 5 enough to order again, the rest were flops for me. for me to like less than 1/3 of the beer offerings is unusual...
when our food arrived, our server was very annoyed that a large appetizer plate was in the way, but we still weren't finished with it. she made some sharp comments about us moving it out of the way.
i had a chicken and blue cheese sandwich with chips and salsa. the sandwich was really good, a huge portion and pretty great overall. the chips were nothing special. the salsa was really thick and would have been amazing, but it was prohibitively spicy. and i really like spicy foods!
my partner ordered a cheeseburger. it was not good. not awful, but not good. she had the coleslaw with it and that was beyond disappointing. i'm not picky about coleslaw, but this was really funky tasting and everyone who had it with their meal thought it was gross. a couple people had fish and chips. they were disappointed as well.
we all just kept waiting for the place to improve. somehow. it never did.
i will say-- i was a server for years. i am very forgiving of a server's bad day. this went beyond that. i am also not a picky eater and it's pretty hard to disappoint me. but i was disappointed.

each and every beer was delicious, and there was a wide variety available. their beers are a little thicker and a little maltier than most, but that’s just how i like them. throw in an endearing public house and fish and chips made with fresh albacore tuna, and you’ve got me sold.

don't waste your time and money eating here.. the food is mediocre at best. there was not much variety to their menu, which we were informed was pared down for the summer because it gets so busy. i ordered the special; bbq ribs with cole slaw and watermelon. the tastiest item was the watermelon. the ribs tasted like they were reheated and their bbq sauce was not very flavorful. the ribs were also lukewarm when they were served and the final bite was so overcooked it felt and tasted like i had just bit into charcoal. the cole slaw had almost no dressing and needed a ton of salt added to give it any flavor. my husband ordered a bacon cheeseburger. the burger was a small thin patty. the service was not that great either. our drinks were never refilled and the only time we saw the server was when she brought the check. the meal was so disappointing that we stopped at fultano’s for pizza on the way back to our hotel

great place!. a group of colleagues and i ate at fort george pub and brewery earlier this week and had a great time. the outdoor seating area is fantastic.

the service was spot on and the food and beer were great. i had a delicious and tender hanger steak. the micro brew menu was full of a wide variety of beers for every taste.

i will definitely be back next time i'm in astoria.

beer was great. food was so so. had albacore tuna fish and chips. it was dry. should have tried something else as nothing can beat the bow picker for that dish.

great beer, good food. went there a few years ago and very excited to go back again in a couple of weeks. they have some of my favorite beers- just wish that they would get a truck packed up and deliver to bars in seattle...maybe one day soon.

food was good, prices were reasonable, server was very helpful, and i got one of my favorite t-shirts there as well. not much more that i could ask for, and i hope it will be just as good this time around.
