bakers may not look large from the outside, but inside it's a spacious, warehouse-style room with a mixture of tables, booths and high tops. during the daytime, it's a cafe with light meals and coffee, later switching to a dinner menu. the early bird is pretty good value with two courses for €20 before 8pm wed-sat.
on a recent nighttime visit, our starters of pan-fried prawns with harissa oil & pineapple and a tuna niçoise salad were both really good. the mains which followed (duck breast and pan-seared salmon) were both decent, but not quite as good as the starters. the portions however, were substantial, so bakers will definitely appeal to those who like large portions of good, solid cooking. very decent bottle of fresh and fruit house white wine.
final thoughts: a neighbourhood cafe/restaurant which won't let you down.
