flower flour (bakery/breakfast). i spent a large chunk of my life in and around the san jose suburb of willow glen, yet had not stepped into this wonderful bakery until today. from cakes to croissants, every pastry imaginable graces their coolers throughout the day. among the best lie sticky buns and macaroons, all pumped out by a tiny kitchen in the back of the building. though the service can, on occasion, be pretentious, the quality of the bakery goods usurps the rare cold shoulder. all things considered, i have to put flower flour atop my list of best bakeries in san jose.
just a note for those driving through the area: this place is insanely difficult to find if you go by the common direction "around the corner from lincoln". it is halfway between bird and lincoln, and is worth every extra foot i had to walk to get there.

cinnamon stick buns (dish review). these babies are good fresh out of the oven, the next day, and after the apocalypse. all joking aside, i need to invent a way to have a sticky bun iv drip implanted into my arm. flaky, gooey, sweet, and, of course, sticky, are the first adjectives that come to mind when i think of these buns. at a price of about two bucks apiece, they are more than worth the money. please purchase with caution, however, as they are known to be extremely addictive and detrimental to the integrity of the button on your jeans.

coconut macaroons (dish review). oh my god. cliche terms rarely seem necessary but.... oh my god. this is, hands down, the best macaroon i have ever had. sadly, that does not mean much, as i have had around 10 in my lifetime. still, this creation from the baker-extraordinaries at flower flour is pretty awesome. it is rich, yet soft, textured, yet smooth. it smells like coconut, but tastes like a lovely shortbread. honestly, it is spectacular, and i will be back there to tomorrow to guzzle about a dozen more.
