i really don't think much needs to be said of flour and stone. if you haven't heard of their legendary lamingtons and other array of delicious baked goods, then you must have been hiding under a rock. where there is no instagram. and no bloggers from sydney. or bloggers from melbourne who visit sydney and bring back sweet treats. i mean. really. that's a pretty bleak world you're living.

one of the best cakes in sydney (if not the best!). super busy on saturday. luckily squeezed into a seat at the window bar. the coffee was just right slightly bitter after taste, but not too dark, very smooth, perfect with sweets. the hazelnut torte was absolutely delicious, well balanced sweetness, light, moist but complex with textures. the honey madeleine was light, the thin icing gave it just enough sweetness to make it interesting yet subtle. just perfect!

this little gem was so packed on saturday morning, we had to wait for a while for a table as we wanted to eat in. people kept on coming, they were so busy. service was a bit slow. but the wait was definitely worth it. i finally found the the best tasting ‘almond croissant’ in sydney (so far). they seriously know how to make a croissant. crispy, fluffy and super buttery. and their almond croissant was not over filled too so its just the perfect amount of sweetness. unlike other bakeries that tend to overfill their almond croissants.

the chicken, mushroom & tarragon pie was amazing too. the filling was super creamy. but i had to add lots of pepper because the flavour was not too rich, but still enjoyable.

canele was alright, caneles was not my favorite anyway so cant really say much. but my friend who loves caneles really liked the canele that we ordered.

as for the coffee.. my soy cappucino was a bit burnt so did not enjoy my coffee that day. but everything else made up for it!

definitely definitely definitely coming back to try their other pastries and pies!

you would have to be living under a rock without instagram, other social media and without food blogger friends to have not heard about flour and stone’s legendary panna cotta lamingtons. it was going to be the first birthday of the confessions of a glutton blog that day and i was planning one of the most epic days of eating you could ever imagine. for the sake of being able to accurately narrate my experience in as much detail as i can, i have spread out my visits that day to three establishments over three posts for easy reading so back to flour and stone. as i had heard from a number of fellow food bloggers that they apparently run out of the infamous lamingtons very quickly, i was determined to get there for breakfast.

cakes, pastries, sweet & savoury - all to die for. must try the pies and sausage rolls, and finish with a sweet. everything here is good, but the coffee just didn't hit it for me unfortunately.

so in record time, the lamington at flour and stone has rocketed into the sydney foodie hot list. if you’re going to have a soft boiled egg for this first time in a while this is a fantastic version... perfectly cooked googies accompanied from delicious, buttery toast.

favourite little bakery in the city, with the best pain au chocolat, raspberry tart and my favourite: the banoffee pie. it's really nice to grab everything take away, and enjoy it in the botanic gardens!

jen really liked these cookies, saying that she felt they were the quintessential chocolate chip cookie. they were quite different from the others as they were thin and crunchy, without any chewiness or softness. the chocolate to cookie ratio was good and the quality of ingredients was high, however after the flavour and texture sensations of the other cookies, these fellows felt a little lacklustre.

i ordered the family chocolate cake for my birthday and it was amazing. it's so hard to find an old fashioned chocolate cake; this one was perfect. i ordered the 20-30 serve cake and it served about 40 people easily.

as you orchestrate your way through life, sometimes you come across bits of real magic .   flour and stone bakery is that bit of magic. this small space dedicated to beautiful food is no magic at all – really, because instead a brilliant team of professional people who really know about baking and the art in delivering a hand made product.     looking north up riley st – flour and stone   flour and stone changes daily and seasonally (although they keep on some of the favourites) – cakes and slabs, gluten free cookies, vegan cookies, tarts, muffins, hand iced gingerbread, beautiful savoury pies and salads to name a few of the things in their repertoire. there’s coffee by coffee alchemy and the freshest homemade lemonade.   ratatouille and fetta pie – flour and stone   there are individual pies – today ratatouille and feta – pastry that was light flaky with rich, buttery texture and taste – tomato, eggplant, red pepper .  all fighting to be the star with every mouthful and at last melding

i picked up a slice of old fashioned cake last month, it was super dry, really disappointing, coles makes better cakes than them, not worth the hype.

i planned, ordered and had paid in full for an expensive birthday cake and delivery for my mum to be delivered on wednesday morning next week. i just received a phone call to say that flower and stone have decided to take monday, tuesday and wednesday off since they need a break.. very disappointed by this and not left with very much notice to organise another cake
