i only been in here once, and this was my first time! from what i can tell, the restaurant has got to be something good, the patrons did not mind waiting for minutes to get a seat, not one of them that came to the door said forget it. they all said i will wait, at least from my observation.

we had a bit of a wait as they only have 6 tables, but they do have two bars one being very small. it is a small dining room also, but it almost makes you think of home. the prices are right, the food is good.

don't be surprised if the people you sit next to decides to have a conversation with you. there is a nice laid back older crowd that patronizes here, which is what i love! the only thing about it is, they have limited space, so there is a need to get you serviced, fed and out the door as they have people waiting to come in. if you could come in and eat and take your time socializing, you would never go home probably as you would want to stay and talk to all the interesting people. i felt like you could get to know someone here, and make some friends.

i ordered the farmers omelet, it looked great, nice appeal. in addition to that i swapped out the toast for the pancake, they give you 1 pancake instead of the toast if you want it swapped. the pancake looked nice, good appeal lightly golden, it was one of those soft buttermilk type pancakes a bit doughy to me but thin and good, not great! i had hash browns...oh boy did those hash brown ever have eye appeal, they looked just like the one i would want my hash browns to look always. the only problem is, no tabasco sauce...i cannot do hash browns right without tabasco sauce. they have hot sauce but you know that has more of a sour taste than a spicy hot taste, not what i am looking for on my hash browns. i also had a cup of coffee, well i drink starbucks it was not as strong as theirs but tasted good.

the farmers omelet had a fresh, clean delicious flavor to it. you could actually enjoy the eggs and taste the different components of the omelet. no one thing simply overwhelmed the other, they all married together to make it a delicious omelet almost made me think it was healthy. it was not a greasy omelet like most diners may serve, this had some love on it.

the hash browns taste were the same way, clean, fresh, delicious not greasy or artery clogging. they were quite good, but could have been awesome...lol...with tabasco sauce!

the coffee was good, however, it was weak but good. i am saying that because i drink my coffee on the strong side, with cream and sugar. if you like it black this may be perfect for you!

i enjoyed my breakfast overall and i plan to go back there for lunch and more. this is a clean establishment and they take care of this place; it is small, however, that may be what makes it so special.

two people one breakfast. we are on a quest to eat at all of the "diners" in st louis for sunday breakfast. the main items we seek as small local diners in and around the st louis metro area that open before 8 am, we are looking for diners after all. the things you see and read, gave this place a better than passing grade by all accounts, so it being at the northern edge of the area we had not been there until last sunday. we arrived just a bit after 7 am sunday only one other patron, what appeared to a local guy, sitting drinking coffee but not eating yet.

we were greeted warmly in this small (less than 10 tables and limited bar seating) and promptly got the required doses of coffee and menu. we placed our order by 7: 25 and proceed to wait for the cooking to be completed, looking forward to having tasted another small diner in the area.

it that point all seemed well. our 2nd cup of coffee refilled, then our third and then our 4th cup. then my pancakes, two eggs bacon arrived along with the french toast portion my friend's breakfast. then a "missing" piece of bacon was delivered to me, completing my order. we had been there for almost 45 minutes being close to 8:00 am now, before this much was delivered to the table. wanting to eat my breakfast while it was warm and thinking the rest of my buddy's meal would arrive soon enough i began to eat.

as i ate, my friend waited for the rest of his breakfast to arrive. he waited as his french toast breakfast awaited it s' companions of bacon, eggs to arrive as well.

i finished my breakfast about 8:15 am. without his breakfast having been completed.

we began to note between ourselves that after the first few cups of coffee, the waitresses were more interest in socializing with the grill cooks (2 working) than providing more coffee and commenting on the lateness or lack of the order being delivered.

upon finishing my breakfast, which i must say the pancakes where under cooked a bit and the over easy eggs a bit harder than i care for, we arose a paid for my breakfast, with him simply giving up on breakfast altogether. only on declining the a take out box for the undelivered breakfast was even a marginal apology offered.

once it was clear we were leaving one of the 4 staffers wondered aloud if any other of the current 3 tables orders any had requested the items that were not delivered as ordered to us. nothing like first rate thinking going on in this place . . .

as i noted this is a very small place and it had 4 people working and could not get out an order that would be less than ten or fifteen minutes in other diners in the area. at one diner we like - one with only a counter and one cook\waitress doing both jobs she has cooked and served 5-7 people all 20 minutes or less. how 4 people failed so badly just can not be explained.

if you really want to eat the food you order i would suggest wither diane's in overland mo or olivette diner, in fact the staff at this place should take a field trip to see how a real diner actually works.

i am not sure who award them the big sign in the front window the "best food in florissant", it must have been a ver long time ago. as i am sure that is not the case and my buddy noted that due to his lack of food he really cannot comment on the food at all.

if in florissant any time day or night go just around the corner for a true florissant treasure - old town doughnut, which is where my friend finally had something to eat the caramel bacon doughnuts are to die for.

little diner with big personality. it was a chilly, gray morning when we arrived at the city diner, but dani, the co-owner, radiated such warmth and happiness when we walked it just put a whole new spin on the day.
the diner is a small place--about 5 tables and about 10 counter seats. they do standard breakfast fare, burgers and sandwiches. we had breakfast and the eggs, bacon and home fries were all done perfectly as ordered. the potatoes were really interesting and the grilled onions we asked for were sprinkled on top. the link sausage was very good and so was the bacon. dani never let our coffee cups get even half empty. a great spot to start or end your day!
