the fat lady oozes plush victorian warmth; low lit, dark wood, stained glass. i’d wager the charm dial is cranked up to eleven during the holiday season...this was my favorite, one of the few dishes that could be enjoyed purely for the way it felt in my mouth, big juicy fish eggs for me to squish between my teeth, silky cream, crunchily seeded little bagel rounds, and potatoes with a little give on the outside, pillowy softness on the inside. i felt like i could translate the texture into taste on this one. i’m reaching, but it’s all i’ve got.

lovely gem of an old style saloon & restaurant. reviewer that said they don't serve black people is smoking crack. it's downtown oakland and this is 2014. racism isn't tolerated. what an ignorant thing to say. probably a non-tipper or a window shopper. i don't want you clogging the place when i enjoy my steak anyway. just stay away. as for a review, this place is fantastic for a date night, romantic and opposite corner from jack london cinema if you're doing dinner and a movie. the barkeeps are skilled at their craft. full bar and a decent crowd on most nights. the allure of this place is unforgettable.

stumbled upon this gem while searching for parking, and enjoyed a delicious lunch with my family. the atmosphere was exciting, as the beautifully and carefully decorated interior transports you to another era. we all loved the creative halloween decor and were amused with the decorations in the women's restroom. i had the farro and beet hash which made a light yet filling lunch. my kids devoured their steak sandwich and blue cheese burger.

located in oakland near jack london park, the former brothel was transformed into a tim burton-like haunted house/circus during halloween. the inside was cluttered, and there was still the old fashion 1920's brothel feel to it. there were tons of cute skeletons, spooky statues, the halloween spirit lived on here. a lot of effort went into the decoration and it was a lot of fun dining inside the fat lady . interesting washroom. a boudoir like setting, with a creepy giant clown, life-size, towering over and staring right at you as you take a pee. i had a thought he was going to come to life and attack me. now what does the fat lady enjoy for brunch? a complimentary plate of assorted mini muffins is a pretty good start. this is what i would look like if i eat here everyday. instead of regular milkshake, try their ramos fizz $8.50, a shake with a twist, a generous splash of brandy. the infamous french fried zucchini $9 is a definite must try. they were so crispy outside, soft on the inside

nom nom nom....ouch.. the wonderful atmosphere complimented the great quality of the food. a good quality collection of cheeses, cured meats and olives started us off. the wine was good quality. but the stand out was my rack of lamb with an apricot sauce. it's been a while sense i was this impressed.
