this place was exactly how i pictured it think casual sundays at your aunts farm house. i loved the concept casual yet cozy. the food was incredible creative and delicious. to start my boyfriend and i had the vegetable harvest, i didn't know what to expect i thought it was going to be a punch of little vegetables chopped up instead it was more of a master piece. butternut squash with parsnips and a sauce made of purée celery root, mmmmm. i had the barnyard burger which is their signature dish very good i had it with goat cheese and without the duck egg and bacon just because i'm not a fan. overall great restaurant and great service.

as i sliced through the crispy skin, it cracked almost willingly and i was in total awe after tasting it. it was comparable to tasting what we call lechon de leche freshly roasted at a fire pit back home. combining it with the apple sauce and the crunchy parsnip definitely elevated it even further. definitely something to come back for over and over again.

farmhouse tavern is a little out of the way for downtown and eastern torontonias, but it definitely worth the trek. kitsch decor, walls adorned with a farm feel, glassware and serving boards straight off the shelves at value village, bringing back fond memories of growing up in rural alberta. when the bartender offered, i couldn't say no to a brunch staple, the caesar; and i have to say it was one of the best i've had in the city thus far. a chalkboard on the wall highlights the food and cocktail dejour. very much a hommage to the farm-to-table movement; farmhouse does not disappoint the taste-buds. while sitting at the bar, allowing a great view of the semi-open kitchen, i got to catch a glimpse of what ever movement is starting to happen posthipster , i am beginning to think imposter-hipster is a more accurate name. along with caesar's to wet the whistle, the pink mimosa was also delicious. brunches around canada always showcase something to help ward off the hangover, nothing short

i should have known that it was a happening place, after all, it was featured in toronto life's "where to eat now, 2013" issue. it's actually number 5 on the list. i can totally see why. darcy macdonell has a little gem in the junction. chef alex molitz creates wonderful fresh farm to table cuisine. i knew i was going to enjoy our brunch just based on the buzz that this restaurant was getting but i ended up having a truly amazing meal. we decided to forgo the patio for indoor seating instead. the decor is rustic...farmhouse chic is how i would describe it.  our server alex brought over glasses of ice water and told us what they had on tap. i decided to go with junction

if you love dropping $400 while being treated poorly by owner, bartenders and servers, this is the place for you. we won't be going back.

the threesome. duck in 3 tasty variations. savoury duck prosciutto peeks out under salad greens, followed by crispy duck eggs - poached, breaded and flash fried. i loved that when you slice into them, they're still a little gooey. last but not least in our ménage à trois of breakfast is the duck foie gras in maple syrup. it's too good to be true, non?

i will never go back. strike 1
four of us went to dinner a couple of weeks ago. we had all been there once before and had great meals. this time, they had run out of half of there entrees by 8:30. the only meat left on the menu was the burger, which was dry and flavourless.

strike 2
we told the server of our dissatisfaction and, to her credit, she was sympathetic. then we got our bill. knowing how unhappy we were, she did nothing to compensate for it. she charged us full fare. no free dessert or free coffee. nothing to mitigate how upset we were.

strike 3
i sent an email to the restaurant explaining our bad experience and they didn't even have the courtesy to reply.

summary
there are so many good restaurants in this city that i would avoid farmhouse. you may get a good meal or you may not. what is certain is they are so arrogant that if you get a bad meal, the only bone they throw you for your (expensive) bill is "too bad".

another example of a trendy toronto joint that's has become way ahead of itself. we should have turned around and left as soon as we discovered we were being charged $3 for water.

the menu is scratched onto chalkboards and includes such favourites as the barnyard burger and a gargantuan rib-eye on cutting board. a duck trio “threesome” of prosciutto, egg and foie gras was a roundup of ontario delicacies. the mains came so resplendent that they required no instagram filter.

this post was way overdue, we went to farmhouse tavern ( @farmhousetavern ) back in april and it was amazing with huge portion... so huge that we end up packing some leftover home which is a first for us. i tried quite a few times to get a reservation.... so make sure to make your reservation, do not drop-by, they take reservation via test which is very convenient (no unanswered phone).  arriving on a sunday at 6:30, the place was already packed and buzzing. we were seated on the side of the restaurant with the open kitchen and it does get quite hot given it's only april, can't imagine when it's summer. but love the darker lighting here so that the bright open kitchen take center stage. love the decor throughout the restaurant with a vintage stove as shelf and the barn door mounted on the wall to slide around the blackboard menu (easy change from day to night menu) .  pretty simple menu, yet i wish to order everything and had a tough time ordering =p they don't really have paper menu a
