good food, bad service. waited 3 hrs, didnt bring out all ordered, even after reminding. family and others came in well after us, got served well before us. no one noticed that worked there. seemed to be serving locals first from what i could tell.

el salvadoreno a nice surprise. what a nice difference in more ways than one. stopped in after shopping the o park farmer's market and weren't sure what to expect ... and i'm glad. what a treat! a couple of us (ok, the men) got the sampler platter and were we surprised. instead of the usual overloaded gut-bomb combo platters that most mexican restaurants serve, you get 5 or 6 tasty and tastefully prepared items with two distinctions: 1) they were different from what you get at other places, and 2) every item on the plate was distinctly different and really good. and we walked out of there without feeling like we had bowling balls in our stomachs. get the sampler platter - you'll be glad.

our latin food staple. urbanspoon lead us here and here we'll stay. what a lovely change from heavier mainland central american food. every dish so far is spiced just right; not too hot and not to cold. the fried yucca was a wonderful surprise, too. the staff why being extremely busy are all extremely friendly and accommodating, as well. this has now become our latin food staple.

unique & amazing breakfast. stopped in after shopping the op farmer's market saturday morning. this is not your typical pancakes and eggs food. had one of the three breakfast specials and it was simply fantastic! will be going back for dinner in the near future. great service!

would not rate it a top find. most entrees were not under 10 dollars. ordered tamale appetizer, bland and soft like white cornmeal. had very little texture. ordered shredded rump roast with mint, tasted good and was light. large servings but very little vegetables and a lot of fried food. service was good.

deliciosa. i shared a combinations platter (with extra pasteles and slaw) with my wife and it was plenty of food, extremely delicious, and very cost friendly. my favorite two items were the pupusa and enchilada, but there is much to be said about the spicy slaw (very good). the two young women serving us were attentive and polite. i highly recommend going to el salvadoreno before defaulting to the typical tex-mex experience.

very, very, happy!!!. we went for a spur of the moment dinner on a sunday evening. we knew we wanted some latin food but didn't want the typical tex-mex available in johnson county. i remembered reading about el salvadoreño on urbanspoon and was praying they would be open on a sunday. thankfully they were and i was able to introduce my wife and child to pupusas, which are honestly the best introduction to the food of this region imaginable. by wife and son ended up splitting the appetizer platter which is loaded down with regional favorites and i had the special (which i cannot remember the name of) but consisted of grilled ribeye, rice/beans, guacamole, etc. which is reminiscent of mexican food but with a different pallette of spices and flavors (ask for and enjoy the curtido to put on everything). the desserts are also must haves. everything was simply outstanding. the flavors really brought back memories of foods from our central american honeymoon in belize and we thank el salvadoreño for accomplishing that.

the service is quite friendly. el salvadoreño seems to be a family run business and it’s apparent that each person in the kitchen and on the floor have a stake in its success. while small, it’s the kind of dining room that would prove challenging for one server when it fills up. fortunately there are almost always two people minding the front of the house, something its southerly neighbor, elsa’s, should pay heed to.

slaw-ter me!!!. pupusa's, pastelles, empanada's and the slaw... wow... i love this place. i think that i could eat a whole jar of the slaw alone. the loroco and cheese pupusas has a great subtle flavor. ask for an order of fried plantains and beans with the sweet sour cream sauce. i love that i can go in get a pupusa, drink and plantains for around 6 buck's. i would bring a couple of friends and order a bunch and split it. did i mention the slaw was good...
