soooo gooood!. we went expecting it to be good, but wow! initially, my husband and i each order a quarter, but we were soon back in line for more. speaking of line... we watched a steady stream of customers maintain a line to the door for at least an hour. these people know how to cook chicken and they know how to keep it coming. great food, great service.

moist chicken and full of flavor!. stayed in dc over the weekend and truly felt this was a local spot. i could smell the delicious aroma from the outside and my nasal senses did not lie. the chicken was phenomenal. juicy, smokey and full of flavor (great spice rub). if you are visiting dc, free yourself from the tourist scene a bit and try this place.

recommendations:
the cash only line is faster and they have a atm onsite.
be prepared to wait if you go during prime lunch or dinner time.

el pollo rico on sunday. run, don't walk to this homey and unpretentious eatery! limited parking available, but we had no trouble finding some sunday at lunchtime. the line was short, as was the menu, but the choices were all winners.
my husband and i split a whole chicken (once you try a bite, you'll know why), and added fries and coleslaw. he is half mexican, and disdains white tableclothed restaurants, so this was perfect for him; about two shades off his mom's kitchen. the jalapeno sauce is tasty, though not very spicy, and the mustard (mayo?) sauce was nice.
i would recommend one of the bottled soda bevs, as the richness of the chicken is pervasive (though not overwhelming).
do yourself a favor, and eat here soon- and often!

whole chicken. perfectly crisp-tender roasted skin nonchalantly covers fall-off-the-bone meat that went to heaven via an enormous rotating spit. breasts so tender you'd think they were steamed.

the waitress messed up all our orders. she brought the food with no napkins and silverware. we had to ask. we all got very upset stomachs from the bites we did take. all three of us will never go back there. we advise everyone not to there for lunch and return to work.

so this is one of the most popular places to get peruvian chicken in dc and must say that we were not disappointed. the chicken was nicely marinated and very flavorful and moist. they don't have plantains or yucca chips as side but i would not hold that against them.

there is a lot of sitting space and parking was also easy. but i must say that though it's better than most of the other peruvian chicken places but i still feel that chicken rico's is better than el pollo rico.

those peruvian roast chicken or i guess it's called pollo ala brasa are so amazing! those juicy fall-off-the-bone deeply herb-infused chicken are, i believe, the best of it's kind. complimented with the green or yellow sauce and salads, they got even better. long queues at busy times, but the line moves quick. worth the wait!

excellent rotisserie chicken (the skin is amazing) that is so good that it has gotten national press. a magazine even guessed at their recipe. tony bourdain was even in there in one of his tv shows. there is some parking here. it is near virginia square metro.

i dream about this place! best chicken ever!. i dream about this place! and make it a point to come every time i travel thru dc. (nice that it's only 2 blocks from the orange/silver line, virginia square). chicken is out of this world, and you can't beat the price (about $9 for a half-chicken with fries and slaw). always a line (which speaks well to popularity) but it moves really fast. consistently good quality. ... fyi: white sauce is a tangy mayo-based sauce (1 is enough for me); green sauce is a bit spicy (i usually need at least 2).

best chicken i've ever had. my boyfriend and i saw el pollo rico on the anthony bourdain dc episode so we sought this place out and it did not disappoint! we split a whole chicken- absolutely the best chicken i've ever had! it was something in the spices- the skin was the best part. it came with two sauces- a chimichurri sauce and a mustard sauce- i preferred the mustard which was good as a fry dip too. the food was inexpensive, the line moved quickly, and the entire time a steady stream of people came in- lots of families. the meal came with two sides-we chose fries and slaw, and both were good, particularly the steak fries. i highly recommend eating here if you're near the dc area.
