take the time to have your staff professionally trained. you have good food, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. you only lack smooth professional operations. i highly recommend the cheeks.

i joined a couple of friends for dinner tonight. our server was very friendly but also very forgetful and lacked professionalism. she forgot to bring me a menu, forgot to bring a friend his beer, then remembered my other friends drink only to blame it on bar. our guacamole arrived quickly followed by a second serving that we didn't order. the staff seemed flustered all night and blamed it on a dinner rush. however, there were many open tables and no mass rush of patrons. after appetizers, we were warned the kitchen was behind and there would be a wait for our food. it was worth the wait. train , train, train, and you will have people lining up at the door.

a horrible experience on mother's day. we started our mothers day with a trip to georgetown, tx. with a recommendation, we stopped at el monumento restaurant. the décor, bar and restaurant was outstanding. the service however, left a lot to be desired!
we arrived at el monumento at about 3:30. we did not make a reservation, so we were considered a walk-in. at that time the outside host (young man) took our name and phone number and said we would be seated in about 30 minutes. we had a drink at the bar, and waited, and waited, and patiently waited over an hour for seating. while at the bar, my wife asked two different bar tenders, “twice”, for chips and dip. it seemed, because we were drinking water with lemon that she was being “ignored”. others guests who were alcoholic drinks seemed to be getting appetizers more frequently than us.
at about 4:30, we were getting concerned when over an hour had passed. at about 5:30, i asked the outside host what was the status on our table? he stated, we were a no show for the 4th time. i told him i did not receive a phone call or text during the hour we waited at the bar. the outside host was very apologetic and had the”lead waiter” took me to the dining area and seat me immediately. i was ushered to our table while my wife attempted to close out our ticket at the bar.
our waitress acted like we were incontinence to her. after we were seated, she came by and took our drink order; i guess an “amber bach beer” and “water with lemon” was hard to understand. she gave us a menu. about b10 minutes later, we had to flag her down to place our order. during our meal my wife requested another beer. we finished our meal, and the waitress was taking our plates and the waitress said i forgot your drink. the waitress rarely stopped by our table to ask if everything was ok, refill our water, etc. as we were getting ready to leave, she slipped our receipt on the table, not in a bill folder, as she zipped by. she did not explain the payment processes; was she the cashier or did we need to take the bill to the front register, or somewhere else. eventually she came back to my table, took my credit card and cashed me out.
the overall experience was a disaster for a mother’s day or any day dinner as far as i am concerned.
please talk to your staff.

mid-week early ladies lunch. beautiful place, great service for four ladies, helpful wait-staff, food hot and cold as should be, mole a little too much banana for personal taste, but desserts to die for--flan with caramel sauce and strawberry rose atop and flourless chocolate cake topped with a giant blackberry and chocolate sauce. will be back!

gone downhill. since they have changed their menu the food has gone downhill and it has become an overpriced chuys. where are the duck tacos and braised beef cheeks? these dishes made them stand out. we use to bring friends from out of town there for mexican food. guess we will have to find a different place so disappointed

new favorite. i really can't believe the other reviews, they must be from competing restaurant owners. this place is incredible. they grow their own food, the architecture is excellent from the kitchen to the bar to the outside area overlooking bluehole. the food was fantastic every time i have gone. try the sweet potato and kale side and some enchiladas. also, they have brandy alexander, one of my favorites i first had in chamberlains, dallas. my wife and i share this as one of our favorite places in the whole state. try this place, you definitely won't regret it

total addiction. not sure what the deal is with these other reviews, but they don't look legit. we've been to el monumento every day for the last 10 days since moving to georgetown, and eaten most of the menu. everything has been perfectly prepared and the flavors are on par with the best food in the austin area. some of the best mexican food we've ever had, and before lupe tortillas was our favorite. the restaurant always has a delicious smell like a wood-fired grill and tasty meats cooking. the bar is fantastic and the drinks are really well prepared and innovative. all of our servers have been really cool and we've never had much of a wait for service on any night, although we try to avoid the very peak hours of friday/saturday. the desserts and mexican coffee are ridiculously delicious, some of the best key lime pie and churros i've ever had. it's a relief that el monumento exists, because it's the only food in georgetown that can compete and beat austin's food.

keep trying and keep being disappointed. the place is a mess - wait staff untrained. drinks were poorly made, people at other tables near us complaining about service. they have had trouble since they opened with trained wait staff - will not return again - they have had too many chances

good food, excellent drinks, attentive staff. this was my first visit to el monumento. i live nearby and decided to give it a try. the complimentary chips and salsa were very good. the chips seemed to be made in-house and were very tasty. the salsa was a bit on the spicy side but not overwhelmingly hot. i had the beef tacos which were good. they were not the best tacos i've ever eaten, but were still tasty. i also tried their cucumber margarita which is now my new, favorite adult beverage! it did take a very long time to get my drink, but the waitress explained that the drink menu was new and the bartender was still getting used to it and had to ensure that he made it right. it was well worth the wait. after dinner i decided to have desert and coffee. i ordered the churros with chocolate sauce and the mexican coffee. the manager came out and let me know that he was not happy with the churros' flavor and consistency that day, and did not feel right about serving them. for that, he gave me a complimentary desert. i chose the flan which was very delicious. the mexican coffee came with a mini carafe of liquid sugar and a dish of mottled cream. the coffee was excellent, but i didn't pay attention to the menu (which explained that it was an entire french press full of coffee) before i ordered it. it was more than i could consume. overall, this was a great dining experience and i plan to make it my friday happy hour spot. i highly recommend this restaurant. it has good food, good employees, a very nice atmosphere, and outstanding service.

nice atmosphere, food was good service could be a lot better. we are in the area to check out places to live. we wanted mexican and close to hotel, but not a chain. after researching, i found that the prices weren't bad and it looked nice. the moment we stepped into the courtyard it was gorgeous! we had a party of six, 4 kids and 2 adults. told 45 minute wait, but it was really 20. i decided to get 2 austin ambers for hubby and me. i went to the bar and had my money out. at least 3 bartenders saw me and didn't say a word. kept on waking by. finally a busy boy got me my drinks and had a bartender ring up the sale. that wait was around 10 min. then my kids wanted water because we were brought chips and salsa, but no offer of drink in courtyard. so they went to the bar to ask for water and no one helped them. hubby went up after 7 min and he waited and finally he had to say very loudly "excuse me" before any help. so then we get seated and our waitress was pleasant. but we had long wait for appetizer. she was apologetic. food was good and portions decent. i just think the bartenders were rude. and the place wasn't insanely busy. there appeared to be enough bartenders and they even have a separate one for the restaurant.

really disappointed!. had heard this was a great place.
i was really disappointed. never been here before. got there at 1pm.......told it would be an hour wait. half the tables were empty, and we're told they don't have the wait staff. ??????
it's a restaurant, and you don't know what your wait staff needs are for a weekend??
we did only wait 45 mins for a table, and at 145pm, we were told the brunch time was over (website says 11am-2pm)
after ordering, we waited another 45 mins for our food....which mine was just okay, the beans were cold. i was not impressed! not worth the wait
our waiter was wonderful.........but the long wait for a table and food in a restaurant that was only half full was ridiculous!
someone doesn't know how to manage a restaurant............just sayin'
