just saw on the news that this restaurant is not only closed but is actively being torn down.  they had been in business for over sixty years in this location.  you can still visit another location in plano.

came here on two occasions. finally made up my mind.. the first time i came here i was with a large group and sure enough we got the royal treatment. service on both occasions is excellent. i do have a complaint that the staff needs to move where they smoke to the back of the building, i don't like smoke and am very sensitive to it. the first time i ordered the combo fajitas or wait the parrilla,? that was pretty good. the side dishes however were not very good. more on that later.

the second occasion i came here because victoria's had closed and no one told me but this tex mex hunger would not go away. i ordered the guiso. as i waited i kinda filled up on chips and salsa which wasn't that bad, pretty good with the right amount of spicy. i also orded a manhattan which i was told minutes later they had none of the ingredients to make. as a test of bartenders, i always order this drink, if there are any problems then i know right away the kind of place i'm dealing with and unfortunately this place is all hype and no substance. the guiso could have been better had they used some decent spices, it mostly tasted of canned tomato sauce. the rice and beans were, sad. beans tasted like mashed canned and the rice was dry and salty, no flavor.

i do not recommend this place at all. i ended up taking a few bites and fed the leftovers to my dog.

this place is the type of mexican restaurant that makes people hate places like el chicos.

my wife and i stumbled upon this restaurant today and almost didn't stop but decided to be adventurous. omg are we glad we did!

the food was fantastic. the salsa is obviously made on site and has the perfect blend of salty, sweet, and spicy... the queso is to die for. our entres arrived in less than half the time we would have expected and were so good that we could have slapped someone. the refried beans are obviously not from a can and for once, i didn't have to add salt to anything. the flavors were robust and delightful.

my advice to you all. don't come here. i don't want to have to wait for a table next time i decide to dine on fantastic mexican food

terrible service. can't comment on food because i can't order. been sitting for 10 minutes and table still not cleaned from last guests. don't waste your time. i really can't figure out why it has such high ratings. truly the worst service i have ever experienced.

awesome service! tacos were perfect, salsa was thick and spiced just enough . my wife had enchiladas that were off the chain. we are looking forward to going back. just a fine experience!

one of my favorite dishes we tried was a mexican fajita martini – a fun presentation of some of the best things you love about tex-mex with guacamole, pico, sour cream, rice and fajita meat. created from one of the owners’ daughter wedding, this dish isn’t on the menu right now, but it will be — and certainly is the great way to start the fiesta you are bound to have at el corazon de tejas.

we thought we found the best hispanic food prior. the steak fajitas was amazing! the most mouth watering tender steak we have ever had. the food was perfect, chips were amazing, service couldn't be better.

a must go.

disliked the new salsa. there wasn't any room to walk down the aisle when leaving our table to exit.

fantastic tex mex. amazing place to eat! the fajitas are delicious and the drinks are fresh and tasty! the management is friendly and always there to help the staff out when needed. definitely try the bloody mary with the serano pepper infused tequila instead of vodka - win!!! it was delicious!!

on jul 10, 2013 fried stuffed avocado you’ve probably passed it a million times going down west davis street, if you haven’t already tried this amazing tex-mex food.  what is it? el corazon de tejas and it is brought to you by the famous dallas family, the cuellars , who have been serving dallas tex-mex for 100 years strong and are some of the most passionate individuals i’ve met when it comes to running a restaurant.  the family operated restaurant is just what i’ve been looking for in dallas and more.  originally from houston, i’ve found myself searching for tex-mex that reminded me of the deliciousness i enjoyed growing up  until i was able to enjoy an out of this world lunch with a few of the cuellars. each menu item has a story behind it and is inspired by dishes that the cuellar family has loved all their lives, like the tacos nortenos — flour tortillas with refried beans, monterey jack cheese, sliced avocado and beef or chicken folded and toasted over a flat grill, the parilla a
