overrated. from the outside, dwight's has all the makings of a dive. so we were pleasantly surprised by the low key and inviting decor on the inside. we had heard some positive reviews by word of mouth, and had high expectations. sadly , we were disappointed. my wife had the sea bass, which was too deeply fried and ended up tasting like a distant cousin to a long john silver's fish stick. i had one of the homeade pasta dishes and was unable to tell the difference between this and some ronco noodles. the crab cakes were excellent, however, and if you're going to go, i would recommend these to cut your losses. at the end of it all, our bill was well over $150 for two people. yikes. we'll be more careful before we choose a "quaint" underground jacksonville restaraunt the next time.

highly recommended if:
- you love bland food
- you are happy to pay $42 for a plate of 3 small crab cakes that looks like something put together at a family picnic
- you pay $35 for “veal sausage spaghetti” that really should be called over cooked noodles with veal sausage bits and hints of tasteless marinara sauce
- don’t mind eating in a decor that looks like a men’s only roman steam bath
- if you are willing to believe all the overrated reviews about this place

not recommended if:
- the thought of paying gourmet prices for amateurish food really pisses you off
-you enjoy food that is perfectly seasoned and professionally plated
- you know the food is ok but the location is outstanding - this place is located in a nondescript strip mall and the overkill of tile and cork mosaic decor would make a great episode on restaurant makeover
- you wonder is iceberg lettuce “gourmet”?
- you generally don’t trust restaurant reviews in jax

wow!. from reading other great reviews, i decided to give this place a try! wow! i'm glad i did! i ordered the filet and my wife ordered the seabass. both were excellent! much better cut of filet than i have ever gotten from ruths chris. also the atmosphere was pretty cool as we could see dwight cooking from the dining room! we will be back soon!

not worth it!. this was the first and last time the 5 of us visited this restaurant. when you walk in there is no friendly greeting, just a "do you have a reservation" question (luckily we did). the waiter was very unfriendly. when i asked if they have lemonade, his response was a very curt no. he did not even offer a suggestion for another beverage. that was his demeanor throughout the entire meal. that was just the beginning. here is a synopsis of the evening...
restaurant was extremely hot. all the ac vents were closed!!! (and it's the middle of summer!!)...it was also extremely loud.
waiter was impatient, and unfriendly.
the food was ok but way overpriced!
one of the desserts was burned!
the waiter messed up our check three times.
needless to say, it was not a pleasant experience and therefore we will not return.

decent food, average service and atmosphere. the good was good, but overpriced for what you get. the restaurant itself was very loud. i basically had to yell across the table. service started out good, but became lousy when he got another table. it took about half an hour after we finished entrees to order and receive desserts and the check.he also didn't make any suggestions our ask if we wanted appetizers. overall we probably will not return.

liked it. fabulous atmosphere with great service and fine dining. dwight makes all his pasta daily. his crab cakes are to delicious! excellent wine list and inviting staff to guide you if you need assistance. great date place or if you just want to go to the bar and grab a nice glass of wine and crab cake it offers that too.

exceptional. had the pleasure of dining there last night. restaurant has a warm & inviting feel with an open kitchen which is always good in my book. the staff were attentive without being intrusive and most helpful - a rare thing. the spinach salad with pecan, goat cheese was fresh/crisp with a dressing to die for. the crab cakes could have taken a little more seasoning for my taste but full of lump crab and good for that. the yellow fin tuna was delicate and perfectly cooked, likewise the foie gras. the creme brulee was the best weve had in a long time. all in all an exceptional experience rounded off by being thanked by chef/owner dwight himself - great personal touch!

very good food, very high prices. not the place to take the kids or to just drop by for a meal. but, for a special occasion for two, it is a very nice dining experience. if you cannot afford spending $100 to $130, then don't go.
my only real complaint is that there was another diner there wearing shorts and a tee shirt. this restaurant should have minimal dress code.

for the price, you might as well go... to olive garden. my husband and i had a coupon from restaurant.com to use and we were in the mood for italian. we ordered the escargot, which we usually enjoy. i must say they were extremely tender. but the soggy croutons floating in the not-enough-garlic oil were a disappointment as was some of the sand we crunched on. then our entrees came, which we both ordered the carbonara. as it was a way more than enough for two sized portion, the bacon was fatty and for the price of $20+ per plate, we expected more. the highlight was the bottle of moscato wine and the tiramisu dessert at the end. so after dropping over $100 on dinner with 1 appetizer, 2 pasta dishes, 1 bottle of the cheapest wine, and 1 dessert, we were no less to say, disappointed for the money we spent. so, next time we are craving italian food, we are going to olive garden where we can get more and pay much less.

boring. bread, which they think is so special, can be waded up like hostess wonder bread. ordered an appetizer which was missing ingredients. we were told they ran out. really! pasta carbonara was gummy. don't ask for salt, they have only 2 salt shakers in the whole restaurant. not good. wait staff were lost in space. incapable of describing dishes or specials.
