diwa classic indian cuisine

bad food. how this place can get away with selling this so called indian food astounds me. it looks the part very clean.that's all, i cansay that was good. the staff that work there are very unpleasant don't have much people skills.for the price of this food you should get a good curry not a tasteless piece of chickencovered in tomatoes soup which was supposed to be buttered chicken. worst of all they charge you ridiculous prices for this.white anyway came home and put it in garbage very disappointed..

it is incomprehensible that anyone who has eaten here could give this place a bad review. we have ordered here many times and feel unequivocally that this is the best in this area or that i've had anywhere else. i was trained as a chef and feel the chef here really 'gets it'. thats a quality that is hard, if not impossible, to acquire. i should add that we only do take-out so i have no opinion on the service. i have spoken to one of the owners and inspite of being busy (in the kitchen i might add!) she was very personable. i am personally suspicious of the motives of the bad reviews.

we have dined here over the past few years and have not been disappointed. the food is delicious and plentiful. the service is prompt although the food preparation needs time to be so good. atmosphere is quiet with table and booth seating.

disgusting service staff. food was not cooked proper and had plastic in it. it was the worst experience. just would never suggest this restaurant

very good indian food. visited there yesterday for dinner. excellent service. had rogan josh and lamb vindaloo. nice naan and papadom. samosas were excellent, as was the beef and lamb. a great experience at a modest price.

wonderful and tasty. i had the opportunity to take my family to this wonderful restaurant, every thing we ordered from a huge selection of items were very flavorful and fresh in taste. pakoras, nans, rice, butter chicken and mix veg were our choice and they were very tasty. the manager and staff were very knowledgeable and the place itself was clean and appealing.
for the previous review, butter chicken suppose to be the mildest dish on the menu if you wanted to order hot and spicy you should have been ordered vindaloo or some other dish. obviously the wrong choice and who would take the half eaten food back?
anyway i would recommend this place to all, try yourself.

awesome.. i've only started going to this place recently on a friend's recommendation, been here about 3 times so far. the place looks a little shifty from outside but it's nice and clean on the inside. the menu is kinda huge, lots of options - so i look forward to trying out more stuff. so far, i always end up getting the vege pakoras for an appetizer, and bhoona chicken, and chicken tikka + naans for the mains. i also tried their aalo gobhi (potato and cauliflower) when i went with a vegetarian friend and it was fantastic!
yes, it is a little steep but based on my experiences at some of the other indian restaurants around here, it is well worth it.

reading some of the other recent reviews on here, i should also add that the service has always been top notch each time i've come here. no problems at all - the staff has always been great for all my visits.

amazing food! the atmosphere is beautiful and the servings are generous.

wasn't the best service or food... food wasn't overall the best indian we've ever had, rather greasy and gave my boyfriend and i stomach aches. the food was delivered an hour late (2 hours and 10 minutes in total), and by that time the food was already fairly cold. also, we found it to be way too overpriced. when my boyfriend saw the bill, it was $51.00 for two main dishes, rice, and an appetizer combo.. we've definitely had better service and better quality indian food for a much lower price.

fabulous food and wonderful service. food came out very fast. ordered vindaloo, butter chicken, garlic naan. all absolutely amazing. great prices. great atmosphere. restaurant is small, very classy and intimate. got the sangria. best white wine sangria i've had ever! definitely will be back.

best i've had.... we're foodies who live (and love) to eat. and we're very particular, as we hate to have even one bad meal. i hate to tell people about diwa, because it will just make it even more difficult to get in, but you cannot keep this a secret. the food is superb- best indian we've had. we drive an hour for this. the chickens they use must be lying around in comfortable chairs watching tv- they are so tender! and the spices are perfect. if you happen to be in ontario, and if you like great good, you have to go. service is fine, but don't expect to get your food quickly. it takes time to cook properly, and they clearly don't just have a big pot of stuff simmering out back! good things are worth waiting for, and this is great.

keep hearing good things about this place.... ...however, it has been a bit disappointing thus far. been here twice. the first time was for dinner, and the food was alright, but the service was fairly slow. second time was for the buffet, and again, the food simply didn't impress. overall, i'd rather try somewhere else for indian food.

by far the very best indian food in guelph, though the take out is better than dining in, as everything is cooked fresh, so it can feel like it takes a long time to get your meal.

good food, horrible service. i went there on a saturday with 2 other friends. the atmosphere was a little dim. the waiter took an hour to get the food out. the food that came out was fantastic, best i've had so far. the waiter then messed up the bill and blamed it on us. probably will not head back anytime soon.

hands down the best indian food in guelph, if not ontario!. i have been to diwa two times for the lunch buffet and once for dinner, and i have never been disappointed. be sure that you try this place sometime -- it's my new favourite guelph restaurant.

atmosphere:

don't let the simple exterior and less-than-ideal location fool you . . . this restaurant is amazing. in contrast to the exterior, the interior is spotlessly clean, pleasing to the eye, and with a romantically dim ambiance.

food:

the lunch buffet is my personal favourite -- for what you get, it's very cheap and the food is very fresh. the samosas are huge and taste homemade. the bhajees and pakoras are fresh (where as in other indian buffets it seems as though they have been sitting a long while). fresh delicious garlic naan is brought to your table. the quality of the meat and vegetables used is very high. i don't know how they season their basmatic rice, but it's very good. most of the buffet items are even gluten free.
