a music-box-like jingle used to signal the magical arrival of all that is good in the world, neatly compressed into a single silver scoop / heaping swirl on a blissful sugar cone - that could roll into the neighborhood at any given day. that jingle said to kids everywhere - run out to the street to grab your favorite treat. and that was back in the days of chemical cones, and mass-produced ice cream and rusty roach coaches. fast forward to present day - handcrafted, all-natural ice cream and eco-conscious purveyors are helping to drive the food truck movement that started here in la, and kids of all ages can now 'experience' frozen treats of a quality like we've never had before from a roving artisan, that lets you eat well, while being a responsible citizen. (and with the recent heat wave in la, ice cream becomes not just a tasty treat, but a life-saving device !) coolhaus and lake street creamery are two that i have developed addictions to. last week, i had my 'food truck zombie*' mo

coolhaus is now in austin, texas and will be coming to new york soon. thankfully they began their journey in los angeles and have already acclaimed to be the best of the best. inspiration comes from architecture where you'll find sandwiches named after famous architects and you'll even see it in the design of the truck.

how can i say "no" to it!? i haven't had their sammies for so long. i saw the menu, i saw something i want, so i waited in line about 5 minutes, and i got my sammie! i couldn't decide between vegan carrot cake cookie and hotcake. i got hotcake but why didn't i get both? damn.. and for the ice cream, i also couldn't make my mind between "chicken and waffles" and "beer and pretzel".

best ice cream sandwich ever. i had the brown butter and candied bacon ice cream sandwiched in between two peanut butter cookies. the ice cream was truly one of, if not the most delicious ice cream i've ever had. the cookies were also top notch. the salted caramel hot chocolate was incredible as well. this truck is a must try...over and over again.

too bad i live so far away from this truck’s normal stomping grounds. i’d love to try more — or maybe all — flavors.

tucked inside your cookie of choice is a gigantic delicious scoop of fun and imaginative ice cream concoction that's encumbered in an edible wrapper.

posted on march 23, 2011 by southbayrantsnraves true these little pieces of bliss may be a little pricey but it's worth it to indulge every now and again. a clever edible wrapper not only caught all of the melting ice cream but also was a nice way to end this experience. again, not needed but nice to have. i'm glad to see more food trucks in the south bay. i know i'll pay this one a visit once the weather gets warmer. there's so many other flavors that i'd love to try! bookmark on delicious digg this post

balsamic fig and mascarpone on a double chocolate cookie, and the ricotta and sour cherry on a lemon rosemary cookie...best part is the edible wrapper. made from potato starch, the wrapper holding the sandwiches are completely edible.

a big, creamy step up from choco tacos. coolhaus ice cream is on the pricey side, comparable to ben & jerry's prices, but you get what you pay for. i've heard and read from multiple sources that coolhaus gets their ice cream from milk on beverly. i like the ice cream from both places, which was motivation enough to research the question further. the guy in the coolhaus truck told me that they make the ice cream themselves, but they might get some of their ice cream from milk. the guy at milk told me that he's not sure, but he thought they provided some of their ice cream to coolhaus. regardless of how knowledgeable employees at either place about the source of coolhaus's ice cream, it's still tasty, and the selection is different from the selection of flavors at milk.

... a funky ice cream truck that was creating artisanal, hand-crafted ice cream in a variety of unique flavors and sandwiching it between different kinds of cookies.

this truck definitely knows it's ice cream. i'm a gelato fan lately, but the traditional ice cream still is a favorite. this paticular sandwich was their 'dirty mint choco chip' sandwiched between 2 freshly baked choco chip cookies. it was heaven!!! at a

c'est magnifique!. cool haus is a very elusive truck, but never fear. their ice cream flavors all come courtesy of beverly blvd.'s own milk.

with such decadent treats this truck steps it up with it sandwiched between a chocolate chip cookie, oatmeal, sugar, or double chocolate!

prices are very reasonable, and always a perk on a hot day! their twitter is usually the best way to find them, and they aren't that far off.
