this place does have a great belgian beer list but i found the food to be hit or miss. some of it was very good and some was not. the presentation was a bit ostentatious for a bistro and the portions were small. i took a date here and we had appetizers and a wine....$100+ with tip....there are better places for that kind of money.

the place has serious parking problem. we have tried several times, and never been able to eat there. interestingly, the place is never crowded. please reach your own business conclusion.

if i were the owner, i will beg for someone to address the parking problem. i get that is a small town (if you will), however, the situation is ridicoulous.

a hidden little gem in a quaint town. i had the coq & bleu sandwich with fries. very tasty. everything here is homemade. even the ketchup.

have been here several times and found it to be consistently well prepared and the service is prompt and not pushy. mussels are very good and the waffles are a big hit with my kids. miss the original older couple who sold it years ago, but new owners do a good job of serving good quality basic belgian food.

so very european. so, this place is super tiny (and quite difficult to find unless you happen to look down an alleyway and see a giant yellow flag with a giant rooster on it!) and boooooooy is it authentic! the frites are to die for (and tasted exactly like the frites i got in bruges), as are their mussels.

i saw where some people have complained about the price of their chicken sandwiches or some such (really? you're complaining about $13 for a sanwich and side when chick-fil-a will charge you 9 for processed nonsense?) . if you want a chicken sandwich go to chick-fil-a; if you want an authentic croque (the waitress did not lie when she said it was decadent) then come here, because i assure you it does not get better. and their beer list was unreal.. i've not seen a beer list like this since i went on a beer tour in belgium.. or when i went to world of beer in arlington, and they're easy 50 times bigger than this place.

the place is tiny, but extremely proficient. the quality of the food was more than evident, and i overheard my waitress telling another table (she seemed to know everyone-- which is an awesome sign if this out of the way place has that many dedicated regulars) that they try to get all of their food from local vendors. even their pork is from some local farm that doesn't use antibiotics or hormones. i don't know many restaurants that can boast that.

plus, the appeal of this place is that it's tiny and out of the way and owned locally. i support local business owners, local food producers, and places that are unique-- so, i absolutely have to support and love this place.

seriously, if you want some place unique and awesome come here. if you want to sit down right when you arrive, have a drink slapped down in front of you, have food slopped together and shoved on a plate, and a check thrown in your face so you're in and out in 30 minutes go to a chain restaurant-- none of us cool people will have to hear you whine at this awesome place!

cute, small place. food was overpriced-- $13 for a chicken sandwich on a tough croissant with overcooked fries. pretzel was very tasty , but it was $9! good service.

great beer, food, service in occoquan. tucked away in a discreet alleyway in historic occoquan is a gem of a bistro with a killer belgian beer list. 50 belgian beers and excellent belgian classics like gruyere grill cheese sandwiches, hot pretzels, belgian waffles, eggs benedict, and an assortment of outstanding mussel bowls. service is knowledgeable and efficient, and the bistro is cozy and european.

pleasant & reasonably priced belgian food. deep belgian beer list. also a nice short list of winter brews.

chicken live pate was excellent followed by a nice salad and mussels with frittes. mussels were plump and tasty. chose the champignon style. would have liked a little more flavor in the broth and a little richer, but it was nice. frittes were a little overcooked but tasty.

wife had an excellent trout.

worth a visit.

best restaurant on trip!. over the thanksgiving weekend, i was looking for something interesting. i found it! i love belgian food and have enjoyed dr. granville moore's in atlas area of dc. apparently, i love belgian. ..

cock and bowl has a funny name and an obscure location, but the town is cute as a button! the restaurant is located in a historic home and has small, intimate, disjointed dining rooms scattered throughout the building. it lends to the atmosphere!

sitting down, with my husband and daughter, i ordered my favorite lambic beer, framboise. my husband ordered something dark and bitter, and my daughter was thriled with their offering of hot chocolate.

for apps, we ordered som frittes and were disappoinged with their lack of flavored mayos. they pulled out a curried ketchup and homemade mayo!!! i also ordered their chicken liver pate, which i attempted to defend from my daughter's advances. i was unsuccessful. .. she loved it, as did i. the crostini was too salty though. i would hav said something, but the waitress was missing for a while.

for dinner, i ordered the moules (mussles) with gruyere and white wine. it was ok. granville's are better.

on the other hand, my husband ordered the shrimp and polenta. it was an evolution of shrimp and grits with polish. awsomeness! best he has ever had! (and i make them at home for him, so he must have had an "experience."

they also had ofher items on the menu that facinated me. like their huge pretzel, and their waffles. i saw one of them go to a table and would have ordered them but was too full.

i really enjoyed myself here, and walked out with an $80 bill, pre-tip. not bad for the experience. would definitely go again!

we decided on the la chouffe brewed by brasserie d'achouffe which was delicious, light and sweet with a little hoppy taste.

gem of occoquan, the waffles are to die for!. if you know occoquan, you know that the whole place is just off, for some reason, it is dead, winter or summer. belgique gourmande, wich closed down, was no exception. but then cock and bowl arrived, and saved the day! i will go back to occoquan, just for them! the terrace they have is just great, and the whole atmosphere is alive, in an otherwise kind of dead place. the wait staff is knowledgeable, the owner is kind and attentive, and the waffles were to die for, fluffy and not too sweet, just perfectt. we were really grateful we were allowed to stay on the patio just for desert, on a busy night, where people would have liked to stay there and maybe order much more than just 2 waffles. they have my favorite beer, duchesse de bourgogne, which is a truly wonderful beer. everything looked delicious at the other tables, from the mussels to the steak frites, and i must say i did not notice anything on the plates, when the waiter was clearing the tables around us. it was packed on a wednesday night, so it looked like all these people knew about this restaurant. the rest of occoquan, with their waterfront dining had one or two customers, and here they barely had one table for us. i am so happy i did not give up on occoquan, and went to cock and bowl! i am looking forward to going again, for a full meal, and a glass of duchesse de bourgogne!

an awsome place, we come here often! it has a small menu, but everything on it is fantastic, wether you desire a waffle drizzled in chocolate ganache, or the olive verde mussle bowl this place never dissapoints. pair an excellent meal with an exhaustive selection of import beers. sit outside in the evening with live music to help relax after a long week. truly a great experience.
