had an order of the garden burger (~$7): black bean burger (garnished per preference, in this case w/lettuce, tomato, & mustard) on a wheat bun. also had an order of the garlic fries ($4): thick-cut potato fries with garlic. food was delicious, staff was ready, and the ambiance was minimal.

great burger n rings. nice old style roadside stand kinda decor. everybody there was friendly and cheerful. just visiting mtn view today and had to stop to try a clark's burger. had a smoky cheddar w/ bacon, onion rings and choc malt. all was freshly prepared and cooked perfectly. the produce was very fresh and plentiful (on the self serve condiment bar). i would gladly divert a trip thru mtn view to eat at clark's.

one lunch time while out in san jose we took a little drive to mountain view where i was promised we'd have a truly american dirty burger joint experience. we arrived at clarke's, which doesn't look like much from the road, it's a bit of a shack and not remotely fancy and you could easily pass it by... but that would be a big mistake.  service is simple. there's an immense menu of burgers, ribs and the like plastered up on the wall, you order and pay at the counter and your name gets called out over the tanoy when your food is ready. a system we're all very familiar with. there are so many options if i visit again i'll definitely take my time in giving the menu a proper read as i was so overwhelmed i picked quite hastily and i'm sure i missed some gems!  i went for the monterey jack cheese burger with a side of zucchini fries, which came with a ranch dip, and a strawberry milkshake. the burger was pretty huge, as expected, but could have done with a bit more cheese to make it extra ooz

7/10. on 6/10/11, sunday at 7:30pm i went to clarkes charcoal broil in mountain view for the first time. the ambiance is like a log cabin with windows (7/10). you order at the the front counter 7/10. i ordered the most popular burger which is the bacon burger $9. you add your own toppings (lettus, tomato, pickles, mayo, etc). flavor was good 8/10 but not as good as chefs in solana beach. more like a five guys burger and frys, in n out, or fudruckers. good but i won't be back.

used to be a regular here. one of my favorite spots when i used to live and work up in that area. hot food not cooked until you order. all the condiments are left out for you to make your own perfect burger.

give it a try.

burgers w/ a bevy of options. you know a place gets hopping when it has a sign asking patrons to "please share your table." fortunately, it was slow enough on a monday evening to accommodate a medium sized group of our dinner club members with plenty of room for other patrons.

so many items on the menu for a burger joint! i almost didn't get a burger. there were some tempting baked potatoes, and other non-burger items available. sides were much more plentiful than i expected, and i expected a bounty. fried mushrooms and potato wedges joined fries, rings, and deep-fried zucchini.

i had a burger with sharp cheddar and a glass of gb marzen. i was tempted by one of their many flavors of milkshakes and malts, but i'd had a milkshake yesterday. i partook of the group baskets of rings and fries we ordered. the rings were the best i've had in quite some time. the fries were good, too. the burger was medium, but still juicy and flavorful. very tasty. definitely a repeater.

tasty burgers with a plethora of condiments, sides, and extras.
