the mexican food quest continues. we decided to give chiapas a bash on saturday night when we were in the area.
it's a build-your-own concept whereby you choose your base (taco/burrito/burrito bowl), choose your meat (beef, pulled beef or chicken) and then top it up with corn salsa, lettuce, rice and so forth. the only additional charge is if you want guacamole, which will cost you an extra r10.
the two beef options are pulled beef or beef cubes in a chipotle sauce - i made a point of asking how tender the beef cubes were and the server's confident answer was "very tender".
just to be sure i asked for a piece to sample. our opinions on tender differed quite substantially so i went for the pulled beef. it was a fairly substantial burrito by the time i added cheese, lettuce, corn, tomato - but everything lacked flavour.
pulled pork would be a great addition but as a halaal outlet that's obviously not an option. not bad, but nothing outstanding or special. not somewhere we'd rush back to.
