steak frites. this is a one dish serves all combination: salad with their house dressing, fries and steak. bread and real butter on the table. add a fine white french burgundy and ....yum! drove up from the gump for this one. worth the effort.

...after my experience at chez fonfon, i can unequivocally state it was all worth it.

date night.. the food is rather tasty, but the price only allows for an occasional treat. do not expect much by the way of quantity; you'll leave feeling like an elephant that just dined on a small bowl of plankton. still, great for light fare. recommended dish -- the shrimp, mussel, and crab salad (when we went, it was the mardi special, i believe).

by the time, i left every burger was gone, not a scrap was left. those clean plates were a solid endorsement and a few weeks later, when i was passing through birmingham again, i stopped at chez fonfon to try the hamburger fonfon for myself.

that is a good cheeseburger. the cheeseburger is indeed quite possibly the best in town. every bite left me amazed at how good it was. the fries were also very good - though a little too salty.

what to know. great place to take a date with an awesome atmosphere and wonderful service. the birmingham news voted the hamburger fonfon as best burger in the city and it lives up to the hype. the croque madame is my favorite. can't go wrong either way!

best burger in town? maybe.. had the burger, it was really good. liked how they display the grilled onion. the cheese plate was nice. the salad we had was very good.

the escargot was the as close to perfect as you can get. if you try nothing else, try the escargot.

service was a little slow. maybe i should relax more. though our server did forget a cocktail we ordered.

fabulous!. i had a delicious lunch at chez fonfon this week. my mom and i had the carrot and leek soup and half turkey sandwich. everything was very fresh and spiced to perfection. we finished with two desserts - coconut cake (divine!) and a chocolate torte (heavenly!). if you don't own chef stitt's cookbooks, i highly recommend you purchase them. his philosophy on food is inspirational. i've been fortunate to dine at many great restaurants (trotters,tru, blackberry farm, etc.), but i still rank chef stitt's restaurants among the best. fabulous staff and fabulous food - you can't go wrong with chez fonfon!

so disappointed. this is a fav for supper club. the last time however was not good. tried the grilled chicken salad. so bland. chicken tasted poached, only a few pieces of carrot with the greens, dressing unremarkable.
then four of us tried the strawberry cake. pretty but dry, unflavorful.
had their very special satsuma cake in january and was expecting as good. we were all let down.
service very good.
next time i'll stick with the trout...

great food and i love the outdoor seating. the pizza was small in size though but nice seasoning in sauce.

i've always had great meals at all of frank stitt's restaurants, but i think the bar scene at chez fonfon is outstanding. their cocktails are made with the freshest ingredients and the barmen/barwomen do their job with great flair.

the french 75 they serve is a slightly updated version of a champagne cocktail developed in paris shortly after world war i. next time you visit, try something different to get your evening started.

my fiance and i really enjoy chez fonfon. the atmosphere is cool and calm. all of the food i have ordered there was amazing. my meat & potatoes fiance loves the chicken salad. the house salad is great too. looks like a lot of women go there on girls night out. love this place!
