everyone loves this place, with lines often out the door and down the sidewalk past other shops, the music is excellent and the worker-owned model one to envy, but the pizza itself: a bit too oily, the crust is doughy and not particularly interesting, and the daily topping choices, a bit too simplistic and unimaginative, particularly for what you'd expect. it's an institution and a pizza to try once, because everyone does, but beyond that... try gioia not far away

i had heard a lot about this place from friends and family in the bay, before i finally decided to check it out last weekend. they had a special saturday menu, to celebrate the independence day of india and pakistan, with groovy indian music playing in the background.  we reached just 15 minutes after their opening time, and were amazed at the number of people who were either already enjoying their pizzas or waiting in line for their turn! being an indian, the aroma of the pizza and the atmosphere of the place with all the indian music playing, besides the review, got my expectations from this place a lot higher.

i tried the rose lemonade and it was a refreshing fusion of flavors, and i would highly recommend it. the pizza, topped with curried potatoes, cilantro, red onions was definitely of a higher standard as compared to any pizza i've eaten before. but what i personally felt was that the pizza was a little dry because they replaced sauce with olive oil dressing. my friend even left this feedback with the employees at the counter, and they were happy to acknowledge it.

i would definitely want to go back to the place on a different day, because their pizzas are different, fresh and crafted with a lot of thought, incorporating a lot of local produce and flavor!

ahh what can one say about cheese board that hasn't been said before. it's a delight to the senses. their daily pizzas are worth the queues that line down the block and if patience isn't your virtue, you will miss out on an experience that deserves the anticipation.

i've been cheese board every time i've popped into berkeley. keep a lookout for their special of the day and find yourself a nice spot by the road where from to devour your slices with a nice pint to wash down the afternoon :)

a cheese-lover's holy grail. not only is it some of the best pizza offered in berkeley, but it's also a cheese shop! fresh pastries, cheese, and bread. the shop has everything.

the pizzeria itself only serves one type of pizza a day, but do not fear. this one kind of pizza, whatever it is that day, will blow your mind. they are usually vegetarian (maybe always), so it will fit most diets. and if you need gluten free, just jump to the front of the line to let them know, then get back in line to place your order. that way they will have one ready for you. if going gluten free, you will need to buy the whole pizza - totally worth it.

though there is almost always a line, it never takes long, and it's always worth the wait. usually the place is filled with live music which makes it go even faster. to make it even better, when you do get your slice, a little sliver of extra pizza is included. it's like they know one slice is never enough - you always want a little extra.

the only downside, because it is so popular, and because it's berkeley, there is very limited space to sit inside or out. my suggestion, gather some friends, order a whole pizza, bring your own bottle of wine, and find a grassy spot nearby. seriously delicious. and if you have some time, check out the cheese shop and grab some dessert. you will not regret this splurge.

leave a reply mass production of just one kind of pie a day keeps the line moving at cheese board pizzeria in berkeley, california at around 8 pm, the lineup at cheese board pizzeria extends well down the block. so why would i recommend road trippers hit this spot when dining in berkeley, california? timing, my friends, timing. the next day, i jump out of my car and rush over to cheese board five minutes before their lunchtime closing of 3 pm. there’s only five folks ahead of me, and an employee is going up the line asking people how much pizza they intend to order, so they can figure out how many pies to toss in the oven before they shut down for the afternoon. obviously, i wasn’t in the long line the night before, but i’m guessing it moved pretty swiftly. here’s why, which explains the brilliance of cheese board. they make only one type of pizza each day—zucchini, onion, mozza, feta and basil-pine nut pesto the day i’m there—and one type of salad, this day a roasted corn with aged goat gouda. you can order the pizza whole ($20), by the half ($10) or the generous slice ($2.50). here’s the entire menu: one pizza, one salad because they’re only making one kind of pizza, hot fresh pies keep emerging from the oven. which means they’re fast, fresh and tasty, if you like a thin-crust, slightly greasy pizza. to me, it’s great value for a good, quick pizza… if you can avoid the lines. a single slice often ends up being a couple note: this being berkeley, it’s no surprise this pizzeria is a worker-owned collective, which also operates a cheese store and bakery a few doors down. cheese board pizzeria 1512 shattuck avenue tuesday to saturday 11:30 am-3 pm and 4:30 pm-8 pm. closed sunday and monday about these ads share this:

the best. odd names, quirky ingrediants, the best pizza pie ever. the line may even look intimidating, but it moves quickly. it's never more than 10 minutes.

the pizza was pretty freaking amazing. i loved the saltiness of the olives with the stringiness of the cheese. the sauce was not missed at all. it was a huge burst of flavor in my mouth.

great pizza, vibe, and experience. pizza was great. affordable also at $2.50 a slice. there is a line, but it goes fast. sharing a table is a must! or you can eat on grass on the island in the middle of the road. totally cool. there is only 1 type/kind of pizza per day-- but its totally good and worth it. order 2 slices, they may give you a third bonus teeny slice.
i definite must visit and repeat place to go.

i'm drooling, just thinking about it..... this is quintessential california pizza in my book. i have to, have to, have to, go here every time i visit berkeley. my mouth is watering just thinking about this place.

they only cook one type of pizza for the day with fresh, organic, and eclectic ingredients (who would've thought of putting corn, garlic, goat cheese, mushrooms, etc would taste so amazing!). although there's always a line, it goes really quickly. you can either order it by the slice or the entire pie.

they've recently (at least for me, it's recent) renovated the space so now it's a lot brighter and has a little more seating space.

this co-op rocks pizza!. this co-op is owned and run by employees. because of this they only make one kind of pizza. you certainly won't find peperoni here ! this affordable gourmet joint always has something tasty. if the pizza of the day doesn't sound good to you (and mind you it probably is impeccable and i encourage you to try it!) you can pick up a salad instead. their bread and cheese shop next door is equally delicious, people flock early in the morning to score their favorite loaves. just keep in mind not every kind of bread is made everyday, but i believe they still have the bread reservation hot line!
