cheapside cafe is one of those restaurants that’s been on my list for awhile.  if you drive around downtown cincinnati very often, you might have spotted this corner restaurant with the teepee outside.  cheapside cafe, sitting on the corner of e. 8th street, offers a strong breakfast and lunch menu.  although small, the restaurant is bright, light, and clean.  the white paint and wall of windows works nicely with the natural wood finishes.  considering the number of customers coming in for takeout orders, cheapside’s location makes it convenient for downtown employees to get fresh and filling food! this place is hopping!

what a fun place! so cute and clean. the menu is limited, but they do an amazing job with what they offer. i ordered the salmon nicoise salad and actually felt full after finishing the plate (typically salads aren't enough for me).  i tried a bit of my friend's curried chicken salad, and was blown away as well. overall, great place for a light lunch or brunch!

let's get the likable thing out there first…the food.  we met katy and denny there for sunday brunch and between the four of us, three chose the chorizo egg sandwich served on a ciabatta bun with green chile and cheddar cheese.  they all really enjoyed the spicy edge it had.  i'm always attracted

i've been to cheapside during the lunch hour before and got their challah french toast. while it's bonkers good and worth getting again, my usual sweet tooth was drawn more to the chocolate chip cookie at the register and i ordered the chorizo + egg sandwich. great decision. full of crumbly, perfectly spiced chorizo and a folded egg on ciabatta bread, it tasted amazing and was big enough to take the other half with me! cheapside is a great little place that feels light and airy thanks to the white walls, sparse wood interior, and breezy attitude. it is such a treat in the middle of downtown. i will definitely be back sometime this summer for the cold kegged coffee!

wonderful food. wonderful customer service!. every time i come to cheapside, their food is always fresh and their coffee hits the spot. their staff is friendly and accommodating. i definitely recommend cheapside, but come early, as it fills up quickly.

the food was great! i had the french toast and it was very well prepared. the price is a little spendy. the tables a little close together. no air lock during these cold days. overall a good experience, but will need to consider the budget.

the menu is on the limited side, and could be a problem for anyone who doesn’t eat eggs. i am not a fan of eggs, though i do enjoy the occasional french toast, which was just what i ordered. the challah french toast ($7) with candied pecans, whipped butter, and maple syrup was very tasty. i especially liked the addition of candied pecans.

if the staff had been friendly at all i would go back. and to be fair my fiancé loved his sandwich (pulled pork).my breakfast sandwich was overtoasted but very flavorful. i love the location and the streetview... but the inside.. i've never felt so uncomfortable.. but maybe hipster-modern is ur bread and butter!

pleasant centrally located breakfast/lunch venue near courthouse and hollywood casino. after listening to friends comments and reading reviews, i resolved to try cheapside as a breakfast venue. i was both pleased and disappointed. i think with a little work, cheapside could be a wonderful quaint diner. it's clean, airy, and has a good "feel". from staring at patron's selections, i could tell that the food is original and scrumptious; in fact, the chorizo/egg breakfast sandwich i had was stupendous. it was not only filling but the tastes stayed with me for hours. quite enjoyable. there was a good selection of newspapers and reading material to occupy one's time rather than playing on the cell phone. on the downside, i think the prices are way too high. as another reviewer pointed out, $15 for soup and sandwich is pushing beyond the limit. too, cheapside needs to add some standard non-designer drinks, like coke zero to their selection. by 10 am, i've already had my fill of morning coffee and need to move on to something else. the water container needs to not only spit out water at a reasonable rate but the glasses need to be something more than a mouthful. i would also note that cheapside needs to get someone with a pleasant smile, sales-oriented technique, and just downright friendly personality at the front cash register. i'd try this restaurant again just to give it a chance, but with so many alternatives more reasonably priced in the area, i think it's days are numbered as have most food purveyors in this building.

food was exceptional, but service was lacking. this was my third visit, giving them benefit of the doubt, and same experience. i appreciate great food and expect to pay for it, but accompanying service would be nice.

recently we branched out to try cheapside cafe with a coworker and her husband. most of us were newbies so it was fun to see so many menu options in just one visit.   cheapside is downtown and you have to pay attention - it's easy to pass up. the outside looks really cool with a teepee type structure on their patio.  it's a very "earthy" restaurant - it's all white and pretty wood - very granola (haha). it gives you a feeling that you're being healthy! why yes i want ginger soda and chips in brown bag with the ingredients on them! i think this is the grilled chz - spaghetti squash, slow roasted tomato, green chile and cheddar on multi-grain - it wasn't my lunch but it was such a pretty picture i had to give it to you big!  here's a sampling of some of the other dishes - the french toast looked amazing (and was drooled over by everyone), someone got a salad and the curried chicken salad was a hit.  i tried the hen of the woods salt & vinegar wood chips. they seemed very organic and such

not cheap. don’t be fooled by the name. this is not a cheap place to eat. i had a chicken salad sandwich which cost $9. a pretty good sandwich but just chicken salad – no lettuce or tomato or even any attempt to garnish...served on bare plate with no chips or pickle. my lunch buddy had a $9 salad which was served on same sized plate – mixed greens, some apple chunks, golden raisins and a few nuts. we both left hungry. cute place but not any ambiance to justify the high prices – you order at the counter and get your own fork and napkin and sit at bare wood tables. we noticed there were 8 employees working in this little breakfast/lunch place which may be the reason they have to charge such high prices. there are probably 20 places within a 2 block radius for a good lunch. this place will need to make some changes if they want to compete.

great spot. they offer a good variety of nice handcrafted sandwiches and salads. house made sodas and espressos. i enjoyed my meal here. especially unique is the kegged cold brew coffee. fizzy, smooth and effervescent.
