at charlies, the burgers are simple and done well, with a menu that plainly states that simplicity.

this is a review of zomato - the menu image on here is probably 5 years old. the prices on charlies menu are more than double what you see on this site. charlies is good though.

if your looking for nostalgia dining go here but be prepared for a quick moving, crowded close knit dining experience. very limited menu burgers, hot dogs & real ice cream milkshakes. burgers have great flavor but are paper thin so if your hungry probably going to need to order a couple. majority of staff is young but very friendly.

best burgers i have ever had.i don't like burgers very much but i love charlies hamburgers. i work there now as a night manager and i could not be happier, i cant tell if its because the owner who is the son of the original owners partner and his wife are two of the nicest people i have ever met or if its because i love our customers. it makes my day to see how happy our food makes people and i love when "first-timers" come in! we have a few bad reviews about rude service and i would like to let everyone know we improved our staff and there is a very rare chance you could be upset with them now. we are open tuesdays now! if you have not tried charlies yet i suggest you do, and get more than one of course, along with a delicious milkshake. charlies is byof: bring your own fries, if you absolutely need them with your burgers. i recommend getting two cheese loaded : raw onion/ketchup/relish/pickle or one of the two specials a charlie: fried onion/tomato/pickle or bunny: raw onion/tomato/mustard, both can also be loaded and a black&white shake. we only take cash so be prepared. tips for ordering: when greeted and ready to order only order how many you want and if you want cheese fried onion or bacon added and your drink we ask the toppings once they're done since we would probably forget them while taking other orders. if you encounter the owner while eating there i am sure you will have an amazing meal he loves to tell the history of charlies to customers and who doesn't like to be entertained while eating? if you get a chance to come to charlies, take it, you won't regret it!

time travel proved possible! (at charlie's hamburgers in folsom, pa). where: charlie's hamburgers, folsom, pa

what: charlie's double cheeseburger

build: fantastic old-fashioned burger mashed on flat grill with american cheese, finely diced raw onion and dill pickle slices on a perfectly toasted buttered bun with salt & pepper.

comments: i read an article the other day on how the mcdonald's big mac came to pass. a guy by the name of jim delligatti was one of ray kroc's earliest franchisees, and in 1967 he felt his customers would go for a big "different" burger. sure enough, his new creation in his uniontown, pa store caught on like wildfire and within a year, the big mac was in every mcdonald's in the country.

i have some faint memories of growing up in the 60's: one being my father taking me to white castle for car service, where i ate my first hamburger. i can't tell you how much i wish i could transport myself back to that time. regardless of my views of the modern-day mickey d's, i’d love to be able to sample the meat and toppings of that bygone era again – they were much closer to farm-fresh and not nearly as processed as today’s meat. the lack of demand for healthful foods, the profuse use of salt and rendered animal fat, and the freedom to order without guilt is as appealing as it is impossible in today's world (unless you visit charlie's).

walking into charlie’s hamburgers only to smell that old-fashioned greasy-beef-and-minced onions aroma was heaven. at charlie’s, i was transported to a simpler time...a time when a man could live his life unrushed without do’s and don'ts every step of his life. in this respect, to me it was much, much more than just a greasy old-fashioned burger joint – it was a place of reflection, a place of peace and serenity and of all the stuff that comes from great childhood memories.

now on to the burger...

the staff couldn’t be nicer (or prouder) of these little gems, and rightfully so, as this burger was one of the best i've had in all my years.
in the american ideology of "if a little is good, a lot must be better,” i believe charlie's simplicity is what makes their burgers so great.
they are first smashed on the flat grill alongside finely diced onions and a fresh bun, then fried until a crispy brown ring encircles them, and finally, topped with american cheese and then assembled (don't even consider putting ketchup on this perfectly juicy lump of perfection).

i spent some time just holding my double up to my nose and smelling it for a few minutes before eating it. amazing!

this is one of those burgers that i have a hard time commenting on because it achieves perfection at every one of my review points. i honestly wish i could say more but i can't...it's simply perfect in every way (just check out that toasted ring on the lower bun). click on this photo to see the larger version – you can almost taste it! and get to charlie's as soon as you can. 10/10

one last interesting note: in 1942, charlie's closed its doors on tuesdays in observance of "meatless tuesdays,” their food rationing contribution to help the war effort...and they still close on tuesdays to this day. talk about tradition! a perfect product, untouched by time...it goes to show, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. it makes me wonder what this country would be like if all americans stuck to tradition like charlie convery's family does

best cheeseburgers hands down. this is as local as you can get, and they make the perfect cheeseburger. smaller, thinner patties with a great blend of spices, delicious american melted cheese and a buttery, toasted bun. stick to the basics with ketchup, possibly mustard, and top it off with a black and white shake. you will have a winning meal every time.

of the burgers i was happy to cross off the list, i was most surprised to see his choice of charlie’s hamburgers in folsom, pa. not because it isn’t good (it is great!), but rather because it seems to get very little love from the burger community. his in

mixed reaction. just stopped there tonight 20 minutes before they were closing and was reminded of several things. the first, how good their burgers are, and, unfortunately, how they can shoot themselves in the foot with rude help. you always wonder what charlie's might have become if they had a brain and realized what they have but this will never happen. pushy rude worker butting in front of customers with a typical loser mentality intent on ending his pointless day as early as possible did not make this a very pleasant experience. perhaps the neighborhood around this place will put up with this but not anyone else. off the zach's the next time.
