so delicious! even on a wednesday there was a wait, but we sat at the bar. i ordered a showgirl, a whiskey drink, it was fantastic! i am usually not a huge fan of mescal, but it wasn't over powering. we sat on the lower level in a huge booth- next time i would love to sit up by the bar, the dining area has floor to ceiling glass doors. in the fall it has to be beautiful, they open it up and have a fire pit. at the table i ordered a ricochet, i was worried it was going to be super sweet because of the pineapple, but the lemon juice and mint added enough to keep it on a level i like. for dinner we orders the naked burnt ends, black angus brisket on the bun, sweet potato fries and pig tail mack and cheese. everything was wonderful! i tried all of the sauces. my favorite was the original with the meat and the spicy with the fries. i even put some on the mac and cheese! i am excited to try it in the summer when the games are open again!

i love kc bbq. this place has better than average bbq. the negative thing here is the prices. they are double high priced. an average lunch with average portions should not cost $22.
i will not visit again. too fancy and expensive. avoid the high prices.

this is the old beaumont club in westport. we sat where the dance floor was. i would have preferred sitting closer to all the activities going on outside. the food was outstanding. the pickles were homemade and the beans reminded me more like chili. ribs were good. kind of pricey, but average for westport restaurant's.

found a seat quickly at the bar. great beer and spirit selection. helped myself to the "holy trinity" of ribs, burnt ends, and sliced brisket with a side of beans. the meat was very good, but to me it were the ribs that really stood out. i'm a pork guy, so take that as you will. the beans were fantastic. i appreciate a place that puts as much love into their sides as the features. looks like a place that's good for families and groups. it'll go near the top of my places to bring visitors.

i was only in town for a few days for the fourth of july but i was eager to try out a new restaurant for brunch while there.   i planned to meet some college friends who live there and wanted somewhere that was unique to kansas city.  i asked my twitter followers if kansas city had any “cute brunch” places and one of my friend offered up char bar.  it definitely met my expectations! here’s my review:

huge fan of charbar. the place had an awesome atmosphere and their patio is great. i usually get the pickled pig with fries, but have had quite a few of their sandwiches and was happy with all of them. they might not be known for it but their fried chicken is pretty darn good too!

one of the best pork & brisket sandwiches, as well as the biggest, you will ever have! they're sweet potato fries are amazing and they give you a lot. i wish they had their hush puppies as an entree because they were delicious! i love the rustic feel that this place exhibits as a part of westport. they have a beautiful outdoor patio and a neat outdoor bar area!

i had very high hopes for this restaurant as i am a former chef within their organization and know how high they value service. sadly, i cannot review this experience because it lasted almost 10 minutes.... with not a single word from a server. they where below half capacity and multiple servers walked by us. hopefully the food is better than their service, for their sale but we couldn't wait around forever and had to walk out ( which i have never done in my life of working and eating in this industry)

great place to go with friends!. i finally got to check this place out when my husband and i can to kc to visit friends and so he could compete in a bjj. i'd heard and read so many positive things and it didn't disappoint! the atmosphere is fun and lively! while waiting on our table, we used their foosball table and ordered drinks, which got everything off to a great start.

i ordered the triple crown (smoked ham, smoked bacon and pulled pork). it wasn't as impressive in size compared to the other orders at my table, but there was a actually a really decent serving of meat there. and it was pretty delicious!

but i have to say that i liked my husband pick even more - a sandwich comprised of burnt ends and sausage with coleslaw on top. so good!!! i definitely plan on getting this next time we go!

i also got to try a rib from out friends' holy trinity plate and it was fantastic! awesome, crunchy bark with tender meat underneath. he was also in love with the chicken he got - he claimed that the skin tasted just like bacon!

this was such a fun and place to have dinner with friends! we'll definitely be back to try more!!

two hour drive later...so pleased i came!. visited char bar today...simply because i was off from work and the reviews/pictures called to me. i was a bit worried as i followed the gps directions. however, once i turned into westport area, i knew i was in the right place! swanky restaurants were snuggled next to one another. cool area, but you must scout for parking.

once inside, i was instantly happy. nice and soulful blues played in the spacious, classically modern, and clean restaurant. we were greeted and seated immediately. our server was pleasant and professional. he offered his recommendations and mentioned what was new. that was a great help. he took our order with no order pad or paper and he got it perfectly!

we ordered the grits/cheese hush puppies & cornbread muffins for appetizers. awesome! the presentation was creative and a work of art! the grits were the perfect texture. this is hard to cook, if you are not familiar with this food. grandparents are from the south. we ate grits...not oatmeal. believe me it was delicious. cornbread muffins....yummy with all the condiments created for them (spicy honey, designer butter, and designer grape jam--see menu for exact ingredients).
main course:
2 meats (turkey & beef brisket) with kale slaw: turkey and brisket get an eight out of 10. was flavorful, moist, and could be pulled apart with just a fork. it was solid, honestly. now the kale slaw was everything! it out shined all that we had...really!
naked bugger with pepper jack cheese and avocado with fries: solid burger...cooked exactly how i asked. fries were good. nothing life changing. but i would order it again! the avocado was fresh and delicious...bonus on my burger.

extra side jo jo potatoes: these had a great texture...loved then more than the fries.

again, staff was pleasant. i will be back. reader, you should go now!

southern inspired.. we visited the char bar for the first time last week. the food was good. i was immediately drawn to the pimento and cheese sandwich with fried green tomato. it was spot on. the bread was perfect the pimento and cheese was creamy espically since i'm positive they can't possibly use duke's mayo. my only regret is i didn't throw a fried egg on it. my boyfriend had the portabello sandwich, i tried it and didn't care for it. i found the greens over powering. my boyfriend liked it but agreed sammy was better. being a southern girl up here in the midwest i had to try the "hush puppies". at 7 bucks i was expecting a huge bucket o puppies.. when the server brought out four puppies i was surprised. char bar's version of hush puppies are fancy deep fried grits and cheese with a corn meal coating. the sauce was a perfect compliment to the fritter. i could even taste the beer in the sauce. i still think four is a little chinsey but whatever i get it. we finished the meal with their butterscotch creme brullee. i loved it.. i later noticed they have jo jos which is a gas station fav back home. our server courtney was also very sweet and attentive. i can't wait to go back especially since now they are serving brunch!
