chantanee thai restaurant & bar

the food is as good as it was in the old location, but the new location and the addition of the yuppie cocktail bar is a turn-off for me (and probably anyone with kids). i would recommend pen thai (in bothell, same owner i think) or o'char (in eastgate) over this pretentious place.

best thai. one of the best places for thai food. i used ot go to their old locationin bellevue and the new location is equally good. a bit pricy though.

have been to this place multiple times in the last 3 years. it is one of my favorite thai restaurants in downtown bellevue. just a block away from my work, and just next to bellevue transit center. 

food : a+ my favorites first - penang curry - i go 4* spice level and my friend tried 2*. both of us loved it. excellent taste. their phad thai and shrimp fried rice also are some must try. they do provide house soup for free, which tastes great.  

service : a. good service, may experience some variations in service level when it gets super crowded during lunch time.  
it tends to get little noisy as well during lunch hours, but have been here for dinner - it is even awesome place to be there for dinner.
pro tip : for lunch the best time to visit on a working day is 11-11.45 am when it does not get super crowded. 12 onwards expect to wait before you get a seat

two long-standing thai restaurants on the eastside: chantanee and bai tong with similar offering, here is the low-down. i still remembered i had to travel to bai tong in sea-tac in the early 90s for some decent thai food; and now there are 3 bai tongs! chantanee moved from its old location to the current key bank one many years back as well due to the on-going bellevue downtown development. one of my favorite thai dishes is the thai fish cake (hence my excitement to try fish cake factory ). i believe chantanee won the fish cake battle. chantanee’s fish cakes were bouncy, fluffy and full of curry flavor; chopped green beans were still crunchy inside — excellent; versus bai tong’s were harder and more dense. dh’s favorite was pad thai...

heavenly beef was very good.

everyone else loved their dishes. gummy, smushy, sickeningly sweet pad thai noodles didn't win me over. fresh, crisp snow peas and delicious fried tofu were ruined by thick, sickeningly sweet syrup. the decor and service were excellent. house soup was a nice touch. noodle and rice potions were hefty.

will go back. half of the dishes order for party of 5 was good/tasty
the shrimp dish my friend order was a+

worst pad thai. pad thai was too sweet and drenched in sweet sauce. not the way they make the usual pad thai. hot sauce was a disappointment. decor was good..but the food and service was totally not up to the mark.

the food was ok, most of the time not even that and not romantic. peanut sauce was flavorless and too oily... reminds me of p.f changs for thai.

one of two couples for dinner. service was ok but nothing to write home about. food was not as good as expected. not worth the money.

great food, awesome interior at new location, but music was blasting! impossible to concentrate or talk over because of high volume. musical selection was also bizzare and did not match the food or ambiance at all.

wiggity-wow!. pumpkin curry. crispy chicken. what can i say, the food is excellent every time.

terrible!. absolutely horrible thai food. tastes like every sauce uses a jar of cheap paste. the interior is nice but the food and service are lacking. king and i on main is way better.

loved the panang curry! spicy without making you sorry you ordered it that way. beautiful inside, and a nice atmosphere. want thai in downtown bellevue...this is a good one!

more blah. am i in la? nope, bellevue. swanky decor. fast service. friendly staff. i ordered the phad kee mao. it was ok. the spice was a bit wimpy. this place bored me just like you reading this review. blah.
