high quality and delicious!. been here a couple of times, service and food is consistent and delicious. portions are filling, menu is a bit pricey, but from what i hear from the servers, they have items delivered from japan. i've had some of the sushi, ramen lunch set, and their weekly specials make each visit a new experience. the cooks are japanese, and the interior design and setting is romantic and fun.

if you want more for your buck, definitely go at lunch time with a reservation! i've seen them turn people away because there was just no tables available for walk ins at lunch.

my friends and i went for the izakaya night with high hopes since we were so pleased with our dinner experience the night before. but sadly, they didn't live up to the expectation... they had a large selection of japanese "tapas" but .... about half were only mediocre. they used spaghetti to do 'yakisoba', which was quite a disappointment.
the service was fine but it felt like the staff just wasn't ready for a new style of serving.
being one of the few authentic japanese restaurants downtown, they should keep their good name by sticking to their regular menu.
nice try though!

the sushi was phenomenal with its high quality, fresh fish. i’m talking sushi-grade fish cut with precision and skill served at the right temperature. the perfectly acidified sushi rice was served at body temperature – the way it should be – for proper texture and flavour. this really makes a difference!

quite pricey (based on the portions), but overall very tasty! all the appetizers were delicious and seasoned perfectly. service was great and overall ambience was comfortable!

as someone who lived in japan i can vouch that the sushi and other traditional japanese dishes are spot on. i highly recommend booking one of the private rooms downstairs which are very traditional with the sunken tables (make sure to take off your shoes before you enter these rooms)

excellent - best in town. i finally managed to remember to take the kids to suisha on a weekend. since they're not open sundays we keep forgetting (that's our normal night).

we booked on of the downstairs rooms with the more traditional seating. the stream that they have set the ambiance nicely.

every single dish we had, ranging from the miso soup, teriyaki chicken, sashimi, nigiri, and rolls were phenomenal. the service was impeccable and it the traditional style left our kids pretty much gobsmacked.

an excellent time - one warning - the wasabi at suisha is stronger than most places, but it is excellent too.

tiny portion. the service is excellent. however, the maki rolls are really small and overpriced.

worked there for many years. i had the privilege to work at suisha gardens(that was it's name back then) for 5 plus years before leaving to start my family. it has been many years since i have been back due to living out of the downtown core and being so busy with my kids and just life in general. i miss this place very much and i can tell you from experience this is the real deal. not only is the owner japanese(mike) but most of the employees are japanese and the food is made fresh. the sushi is the freshest you will find anywhere in the city. even though it has been several years since i have been back i can see from the reviews that the service and food quality has remained top notch. mike has always strived to keep the restaurant authentic and top quality in all aspects. regularly throughout the year especially in september and october you will see numerous tourists from japan exiting tour busses in front of the restaurant to dine at the restaurant. it has become a japanese tourist destination when visiting the nations capital and this is one more example of how this restaurant excels in its authenticity. japanese people from japan are wanting to eat here so you can't get much more home cooked authentic cuisine than that! eat her just once and you will be hooked. i remember when our son was 2 years old (he is now 11) and he was and still is the pickiest eater but he would sit and ear crab and steak and tempura and yet we couldn't get him to eat much else. we are not japanese by the way although i am in awe of their language and culture. i was one of the very few non japanese staff members that worked at suisha but i had been working at a japanese bakery since the age of 15 just down the street from suisha. mike knew the owners and me by that time and eventually while i was in university asked me to join his little family and i was more than happy to do so. i can promise you this, i will be back eating there very soon because i have missed eating here more than any other restaurant and old habits die hard.

we are regulars here and always look forward to eating at the sushi bar where we can watch their talented chef doing what he does best. this is by far the best sushi in the entire city, owned and run for forty years by a japanese family. the private rooms are also a great place too dine for moderately sized groups. try the chef's choice at the bar and you won't be disappointed. their draft japanese beer is also ice cold, so it makes a great stop for the after work crowd.

entering this restaurant made me feel like i was out of canada and in japan. i have to say, it was a fun experience having lunch here. service was great, very helpful and patient as well they have dry asahi , one of my favorite drinks. we had the kamakazi and eb-ni (sorry if it's misspelled) it was delicious also the lunch set menu. while others took the salmon dish in which they commented it was pretty good i had the tempura dish which was ok but i guess it's not my cup of tea. i should remove tempura off of my diet . but all in all it was a cool time spent :)

absolutely wonderfully run, came here during a vacation and it is by far one of the best japanese restaurants here. service is wonderful, lots of them are fluent in japanese, food is excellent, but slightly pricey (very worth the price though), i would recommend this place in a heartbeat.

best sushi in ottawa. this place is simply amazing. if you have a chance and a group of 4-6, i would definitely suggest a private room downstairs. they have the traditional paper-walled rooms down there. wonderful staff.

we've been here at least a half dozen times, and something to keep in mind is that it's never cost us less than $60 a person.

definitely worth it though.
