best island-hopping and beach-combing fare!. the castaway is the closest thing you’ll come to in the keys to be in the feel of island-hopping and beach-combing fare! the place is whoppingly huge! there isn’t a nook or cranny that hasn’t a fish, sea, boat or crustacean nik-nak to be gawked at! it is truly a maze of a restaurant. you’ll feel like you’ve entered a cross between gilligan’s island meets pirates of the caribbean, or mutiny on the bounty vs. waterworld! there’s almost anything and everything you can imagine sea-related in this place... from live fish to fish nets – along with boats on its dock! we enjoyed one of our most pleasant meals here. the staff all were wearing smiles and legitimately happy to see and serve us. don’t get me wrong, and don’t mistake my description with that of the likes of a rainforest café – it’s not, this place was great on so many levels. the food was outstanding, the drinks were very, very good and not watered down, the seating was comfortable, the lighting and ambience was ideal and overall makes you feel the caribbean experience head on! our meal consisted of refreshing fat tire beers, sierra mists and mojitos, then pigged out with edamame; ( clams casino – some of the best i’ve had in a long, long time; a terrific fried shrimp dinner with boiled potato; their special sashimi dinner; an incredibly perfectly prepared snapper mazatlan with white rice started with a caesar salad; the fish of the day was super fresh and tender; and then i stole some of my sis’ tuna entrée grilled rare with fries. overall, everyone at the table agreed, this had been the best dinner we experienced while staying at the lower keys.

this was one of the worst/overpriced meals i have had in the keys. i have livers here for 9 years now. the pasta special had fish in it that was not good to serve last week let alone this. it was very over priced. the sushi was not fresh. i had eaten this as my first attempt of sushi, i would not ever eat shushi again, the biggest waist of $120. in a restaurant.

the wait staff did not know the special, and could not explain the menu. the fried shrimp left a puddle of grease on the plate. the sushi was grocery store quality. the veg were canned. take your money elsewhere.

the selection of seafood was great everything we ordered was delicious. portions were more than one person could consume and the wait staff for on top of their game.

my family was enjoying a great day in marathon and went to castaways for their happy hour. just over an hour into our reservation, we heard the wait staff talk to a potential customer who did not have a reservation in which the customer wanted to talk to the owner. apparently, they were friends with him. the owner reviewed his floor plan and enquired how long we had been there.

its a long story but in the end, the owner stated we had been there long enough and asked us to leave. i have never experienced an owner with such an attitude.

with exception to the tunanachos, the food is mediocre and you have to review your bill to ensure your getting the right price. beers advertised at 2.50 were charged at 4.00.

the service is slow with long wait times for the food and beverages. the restaurant is not at full capacity due to coronavirus but act as if they are.

i have been a chef for over thirty years and would recommend key fisheries for better flavor and definitely much more appreciative owners.

in the end, castaways and the owners will never see another dollar from me, my family or friends who come to marathon for fun and sun

i came down here for my birthday. i was hoping to find a restaurant with a buffet, but during these troubling times, there was none open. so my wife and i decided to come here. everything was super from the service to the food. and it slipped out that it was my bday, and after our meal, the waitress and her crew came out with a delicious slice of key lime pie, singing happy bday. great place to eat, great view , and great food. will most definitely visit again next time i come.

terrible service. took an hour and a half for food. waitress put in other orders before ours with 8 people. ask to speak to the manager and it was actually the owner who was very arrogant and he basically said sorry about your luck but nothing we can do on a check that was $300+ dollars. please do yourself a favor and never eat there!!!!

we had heard great things about this place so we drove an hour from islamorada to try it out. we told them we wanted to be sat by the waterfront and they told us ok and asked if we minded waiting and we said no. two other people who came after us asked for waterfront and were seated right away...they sat us inside with no view....at this point we were really hungry so i didn’t care anymore by then. after 20 minutes no one came to our table; i know waiters get busy but i have been a waiter before too so i know how it works and even if it’s not your table if you see someone without anything to drink you are supposed to ask them if they’ve been helped...other waiters walked by our table at least a dozen times and no one even talked to us. finally we asked someone if we could please get a waiter; if we hadn’t driven an hour then we would have left at this point. finally someone came over and i realize she may not have even been assigned to our table, so i know it may not have been her fault; but she could of at least said something as simple as “so sorry about the wait; what can i get started for y’all?” instead she slowly walked up, complained about how busy she was and then made fun of the fact that we didn’t have any cocktails in front of us...well we aren’t drinkers so that was why, and even if we were no one had even come by to ask us if we wanted anything to drink...she was nice though and pleasant during the meal and was a good waitress. the food was fine but for an hour drive i don’t know that it was worth it; the key lime pie was delicious though!! it was at least a good way to end the restaurant experience; if it weren’t for that i would have given 2 stars.

seriously the most phenomenal sushi i've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. i have a condo in vegas and grew up in chicago so i know quality dining! this place has all your necessary essentials.

1. kinsey- attentive, good memory, fast, and beautiful bartender.
2. fresh tasty crisp ingredients!
3. amazingly prepared food that is to die for!
4. and it's clean!

i stumbled here after i saw an advertisement at court marina where i'm staying! i'm so glad they had advertising.... this place is off the beaten path, and i'm so glad i took the chance and boated here!
