i love the ambience and its cleanliness. the staff and the owner are very accomodating. my fave here are sans rival, brazo del cielo, seafood pasta. quite pricey on their main course and pasta but affordable on their pastries and cakes. highly recommended.

tried casa abuela for the first time. they have somewhat standard selection for breakfast (silogs and pancake) that comes with a choice of unlimited coffee or rice. we had daing na bangus and ala cubana - best seller (wanted to have beef tapa which is one of their best sellers but it was not available). the breakfast tasted good and great value for its price but what we loved more are their desserts - sans rival and brazo de mercedes! we enjoyed the over all rustic, homey feel of the place and taste of the food. you can hear the din of vehicles passing because it is beside the highway but after a while you tune out especially when you're entrenched in good conversation. will definitely go back for their main dishes and probably try their lunch or dinner buffet.

cozy, a hole in the wall place. we ordered callos and roast beef. the meat was tough and the side vegetable was bit salty. callos is just okay but nothing expectacular. we got free dessert of sansrival and brazo. dessert was okay, not too sweet though was never a fan of sansrival.
we had a take out of cream puffs. it was good, custard was creamy and crust was neither soft nor hard.

a new-found gem of mine in antipolo! just a few kilometers away from the town proper, this quaint nook surprisingly offers really good food!! we had a variety (mostly not pictured as they were devoured before documented) but i wanted to highlight how good their pastries are! their sansrival is best eaten very cold hehe. i loved their cream puffs too- just the right amount of sweetness with heavily bodied cream filling. their brownies are also to die for. 🤤

they are also very generous in freebies! all those in the second picture are free cakes because we ordered paella, roast beef, creamy chicken pasta, and chicken cheesy dip, fish and chips, and many more. they even gave us free 12 pieces of enasaymadas as complimentary goodies from the whole sansrival cake we ordered.

although the place can be improved, i'm totally swooned by their food. 😍 the best one in antipolo!

2nd time to be here. i had brewed coffee while mom had cappuccino, both were alright. the brazo de mercedes we ate was good. also had 2 whole ensaymadas they gave for "free taste". i was impressed how generous they were that day. i'll definitely go back.

since yesterday was a free day and i got nothing planned, i and raina went for a tour of lower rizal and this was our last stop. on this visit, we took the liberty of taking photos and met the owner of the cafe in the process.

casa abuela is well known in rizal as the ultimate destination for desserts, cakes, and pastries in particular. they do serve savory meals as well, more on filipino, spanish and american offerings.

i found much delight munching on their mini mocha meringues as we waited for their cakes. it melts in your mouth in seconds! their ensaymada also left a strong impression, soft bread topped with loads of cheddar cheese.

the cream puffs, they were well-made. it introduced a crisp bite at the start and then an oozing feeling of rich cream follows.

brazo de mercedes wasn’t as sweet, which was a big plus. the sans rival, on the other hand, was buttery with a touch of salt. they were more than decent bites.

if ever you are visiting rizal, now you have a place for sweets. the service here makes them, even more, an attractive destination.

it all started with a late-night craving for a hot meal. we searched online and found casa abuela. we've been back weekly ever since.

casa abuela is a charming, family-style restaurant situated in ortigas extension on the way to antipolo. they serve affordable all-day breakfast choices and other delectable dishes that would surely make your tummy happy such as:

beef tapa
daing na bangus - a favorite! ❤️
famous tocino - a must-try! 👍
fried potato wedges with meat sauce
garlic mustard roasted chicken
longganisa
pesto

from 7-10 am, you may have unlimited coffee or rice with every order of breakfast food. free dessert is given if you order their main/pasta dishes. how's that for amazing value for money? 😊

aside from the meals, they also have a great dessert selection. their frozen brazo is not too sweet, nor cloying, which makes it perfect with coffee. their cookies are also addicting.

the owner (sir benjie) and his staff are also warm and engaging. their brand of service encourages walk-in customers to be regulars.

so the next time you drive by the east, do yourself a favor and stop by. you won't regret it. 😘

went here once in the morning but that was mid-week so the place does not seem too busy. we were actually the only customers in the area during the visit. the lady behind the counter gave us the menu and was very friendly towards us. we didn't know what to order so we asked the lady what's their best seller for the breakfast meals. she suggested the tapa with rice and egg. and then, we ordered brewed coffee for my companion and a belgian chocolate drink for me. we also decided to get a slice of sansrival cake as a dessert which we requested to be served after our rice meals.

the place is very humble and homey. it's not much of the typical instagram-worthy place, but titas of manila will definitely like this place. situated along sumulong h-way, it doesn't actually bother me that we're on the roadside. by the way, this place has a parking lot, good points for those who will be bringing their cars. i think around 5 to 6 cars could fit in it.

the kitchen of this restaurant is cool, i mean, they're confident enough to use a mirror instead of an opaque wall. you can see the cook preparing the food from the distance. not every restaurant is confident enough to do that. :) the lady at the counter even waved at the cook when we asked if the guy behind the glass wall was the one who prepares the food. 

so our drinks were finally served. the brewed coffee is strong enough. i am not a fan of brewed coffee because i have very low tolerance for caffeine, so let's talk about the belgian chocolate drink instead.

tastes like swiss miss, but this one has real chocolate on top of it. i am biased for i love chocolate drinks, whether hot or cold, so i'll say i loved their chocolate drink. :)

next, the tapa meal was served. i love how the tapa does not seem dry! most of the tapas i've eaten were mostly dry and hard to chew, but casa abuela's tapa is not like that. they served it with regular rice but it didn't really bother me that it is not served with garlic rice or such. i liked that the taste of tapa dominated the whole meal. lastly, i'll never forget their pickled cucumber, which acted as an atsara for the tapa. i fell in love with it! pardon me for being so in love with the pickled cucumber but that was my first time tasting one. it complimented their tapa well! :)

and the sansrival cake. it wasn't too sweet, just tastes right. it has plenty of nuts above it. hihi. its icing is creamy and not bland despite the lessened sugary taste.

this is one of my favorite breakfast/lunch places while i wait for my kids' dismissal time. i love their pork tocino for breakfast and their slow cooked roast beef for lunch. expect to shell out about php 150-250 per meal!

i still find it amusing when i discover something new in antipolo. be it food or a place, it's a gleeful feeling that i don't have to go travel elsewhere to experience a particular spot or taste a different menu. one fine day, my college friend, rowena of travel eat pinas, invited me to do a food review for a cafe in antipolo that i haven't been into. knowing that i am from antipolo, i instantly agreed. rode two short rides from our home, checked out casa abuela which is along ortigas extension. i almost got lost, good thing i saw the sign right away along the highway. casa abuela is a humble abode for delicious cakes and spanish dishes. as soon as i enter the place, the interiors are not pretentious with the visibility of wood chairs and tables. though i hope they only stick to the wooden chairs and tables and incorporate it to the utensils.

you can never go wrong with anything on their menu. their sisig burito is so yummy. it has that equal blend of filipino and mexican flavor w/o that cumin taste. the sundried tomato pasta is also superb! it has that smoky flavor similar to a grilled bangus belly (but doesn't taste fishy). tapa burito was fine. we also tried their sylvannas, and, oh my gosh! it was heavenly! the ambience is nice and homey. if you're someone who wants peace and quiet while enjoying good food, this is the place. they also sell baked and bottled goodies. i've tried so many cafés in antipolo but never came back for another try, but i will definitely go back to this place.
