cardigan's restaurant & bar

it was our first time at cardigan's tonight (here in tulsa for a business trip-- from oklahoma city) and it was great. the atmosphere is modest and casual which really makes eating there very comfortable. it kind of reminded me a little bit of the old steak and ale restaurant. one thing i noticed was that almost everyone we were seated next to, or walked by us as they were being seated seemed to be very familiar with the staff, and they with them. this could not have been just a coincidence on this thursday night; i assume that would have been the case on any night. the food was very high quality, and moderately priced. the serving sizes were not giant, but plentiful, given the price. little things like a caesar salad dressing that was the best i'd had, except for my own home made, where you can taste the garlic and real lemon juice. the appetizers were very good and the 8 oz filet was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and had a nice crust. the sides (yes the $27 filet came with sides), garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed vegetables were fantastic. the garlic mashed potatoes were the best i'd had at any restaurant. we also ordered a class of red wine (cabernet) which was very good, especially for just a house wine. finally, our server did a perfect job. we will certainly return next time we are in town.

my wife and i love this place. it's nice and quaint. i would recommend the chicken fried steak.

great place down the street. eating out with small children can be a chore. cardigans provides an excellent place to enjoy a good meal while offering child appropriate options. the service is always well-done, and the bar does a great job of mixing drinks. this is a great family go-to eatery.

just okay. we were up from okc and looking for a place to eat. we decided on cardigans based on the favorable ratings on this website. we probably should have read them closer. this was just a really tired place. there were only about three other diners at 7 on a saturday. the music was an odd choice that lent to a very 80's dining vibe and did nothing to add any energy to the place. the 80's continued on to the menu. it just lacked anything very interesting. really tired options. the spinach artichoke dip was a little runny, but taste was fine. the chicken fried steak was fine, the asian stir fry was fine. everything was just okay, but not enough to ever get us to visit again. they need to revamp their menu, think outside the box some. change the atmosphere so you don't feel like you need to whisper.

used to be a favorite but with so much competition in this fine city my opportunities to dine at cardigan's are fewer and fewer. after tonight never again will i dine there. i drove back to tulsa with friends from 50+ miles away and pulled up to front door at 8:30 & was promptly told, "sorry we are closed "... the hours displayed are 'mon-thurs 11am-9pm ....

lewis location is still open. the location at 61st and lewis is still open and as good as it has ever been!

very good. it's my go to place. always feel like i'm getting my moneys worth here.

excellent food, great service, would highly recommend it, artichoke dip was very good as well as the crab cakes, our server, keith was fantastic!

excellent!. this is the place to enjoy a great meal. recently we tried the crab cakes, caesar salad, beef stroganoff, and french onion soup. all wonderful selections. their steaks are cooked to perfection and sides tasteful. a delight to enjoy every time we eat there!

good food, okay service, menopausal clientele. ate there for lunch on a friday.

i ordered the beef stragonoff and it was very good. it was a huge portion, so you should stick to the lunch portion or plan on splitting it with someone.

service was okay. not good or great, but average.

this seems to be the favorite place for women over the age of 50 to eat. that's not an exaggeration either. roughly 80% of the customers that were in there for weekday lunch were middle-aged women.

unassuming with surprising quality. visited on a saturday night with my roommate. very few people there at 6:00 pm, but the crowd picked up by the time we left. i'd give the service a 7 for myself, and a 5-6 for my roommate brian. i ordered a beer and it was promptly served, as well as my second. the pre-dinner bread was very so-so, but i wasn't expecting much. i ordered the beef stroganoff and brian ordered the balsamic chicken, the stoganoff was awesome, although heavy. i'm a big eater, and could only eat half of it. lots of surprisingly tender beef, and the sour cream really set it off.
brian's balsamic chicken was good if you absolutely love bell peppers and whole olives. the chicken was well cooked, but completely overshadowed by the veggies.
the music was laughable. the satellite station was called studio 54. disco music does not fit this place. the interior is extremely minimal, almost to the point of bland.
overall, i would say it is a very good place to go on a cold day to get that stroganoff. perfect savory winter food

wish i would remember it more often. great diverse menu, owner onsite, great service. i really don't know why i fail to get back more often. soups, salads, and sandwiches are all great. daily specials like meat loaf, etc are always hot and fresh.

recommend for a lunch meeting, it isn't so noisy that you can't visit.

great restaurant. i had the pepperjack burger with fries and loved it! my sister had the beef stroganoff with a caesar salad. the salad was great and the beef stroganoff was good too but a little heavy for a summertime lunch. should have been made with egg noodles and not fettucini noodles but still good flavor.

great place. i recommend the beef stroganoff. the best i have ever had.
