despite the numerous favorable reviews, we were not impressed. our server was very bubbling and friendly but i can’t say the service was overly impressive. we asked several questions regarding sourcing of the seafood that she wasn’t able to answer. the menu is pretty typical with a variety of fried and broiled seafood options. they also have two steaks and one chicken entree. imho, the prices far exceed the value of the food you receive. i had the broiled seafood platter that had a few mussels, shrimp, scallops and a small piece of cod. the mussels were the smallest i have ever seen – seriously about the size of a lima bean. the whole dish had little seasoning and very little taste. the cod was under cooked so i sent it back for a new small piece. the asparagus had tough stalks left at the bottom. the roasted red pepper and crab soup was good although you would never know it contained crab as the red pepper won the flavor battle. my spouse got the grilled shrimp plate which he said was just ok. all in all, a disappointing experience.

we tried this on the recommendation of a hotel clerk--glad we did. from the street it's easy to miss tucked away as it is in a bland strip shopping center. but don't let the exterior deter you. inside it's cozy, with a murmuring buzz and soft lighting. nice but not pretentious.

after the freshly baked crusty bread, we dug into crab stuffed flounder and broiled scallops, each served with fresh asparagus over creamy risotto. i really liked the flounder, but be warned--my wife thought the crab was too, well, crabby. she loved the scallops, though: broiled just right and presented with a pair of roasted pepper (red/yellow) sauces.

it's hard to beat getting near upscale seafood at chain restaurant prices. you could easily spend as much at a chain and not come away with as good a meal. we'll be back.

went for dinner with another couple.  ordered snow crab, new england clam chowder, pat frieda burger and the choose two with scallops and flounder.  the service was very good, knowledgeable staff and attentive.  the portions were plentiful and served hot.  the only complaint is the rice pilaf was a little dry, but well seasoned.  the prices were amazing for the snow crab, market price being $23.99 and the amount was more then enough.  i will return and recommend.

as a local i think this place is severely overated. the server was rude and poorly trained. additionally, the food was merely okay, considering the prices.you would be better off going to a real seafood market and purchasing your own seafood to make at home; don't waste your time with this place.

a good rule of thumb whenever you are seeking out a seafood restaurant is to always go where the locals go. so, when we heard about the cape fear seafood restaurant in wilmington from so local folks, we decided to check it out. the restaurant is tucked into a strip mall off of monkey junction, an intersection of several streets in a large retail section, just off route 132, near highway 421. from the outside, you could easily miss this place. while it may not have the ambiance of some of the other seafood restaurants that are located near the water, cape fear seafood company makes up for in its food.

i normally don't write reviews.however, this place deserves a two thumbs up. my wife and i came from va for a meeting and discovered this great place.. we had the cod bites, red pepper crab bisque and tuna steak with spinach and asparagus. everything was cooked to perfection and tasted wonderful.the bisque as good as the ones i've had in new england. home made food. must go if out are in wilmington..

in a word, excellent. i'll now give a whole bunch more words as to what made it excellent, and a few criticisms as well.  cape fear seafood company sits in a strip mall in on college ave on myrtle grove. it isn't all that big, and it is quite popular, so i would recommend making reservations. inside it is tastefully appointed with a bright upscale coastal seafood restaurant look. the service was good and friendly and the restaurant pleasantly quiet enough to carry on a conversation with people at your table. we ordered appetizers to start, the fried okra and hush puppies. the okra was well executed, crisp enough, and well seasoned with a remoulade sauce. the hush puppies were overly fried and a bit dark, but not terrible. figure eight flounder i was debating between two dishes. one was the shrimp and grits,  and the other was the grouper saltimbocca. while shrimp and grits is fast becoming one of my favorite dishes, and i have had some amazing interpretations of it,

awesome family destination. i wouldn't take a date there because of the atmosphere and its not too romantic. however, i would take my family every weekend. don't judge this place by the cover. the outside is terrible where the inside makes up for that. food is the best seafood you can get in wilmington.

very accommodating reservation, prompt service, prompt food delivery, really good food, then it got weird. waitress asked if anyone was interested in dessert. the manager returned with dessert menu. he then circled by our table several times until waitress came by to get dessert and coffee order. next thing we know, the manager is at our table to explain that he would like to pay for our desserts if we could take them at the bar and give up our table. we had a minor with us so i told him to make it to go instead. strange, never had that happen, and when we walked out there seemed to be only 2 people waiting by desk/outside, both with resting b**** face. after leaving we texted friends that happened to be at table next to us and they said a large party was seated at our table with apologies for the wait. we had only been therean hour or so.

we tried this place out and enjoyed it. i would definitely not describe it as romantic as the outside is a little sketchy. but the interior ispretty! we had the crab dip and it was delicious! we shared the crab dinner and it was ok nothing to rave about. it seems like the place the locals go. i like it!

this restaurant doesn't desereve to be called a restaraunt. if you cannot properly fry a filet of fish without it turning black, then you shouldn't be allowed to serve food

delicious seafood!. my family visited cfsc to celebrate my husband and grandfather's birthdays. we all split a crab dip and it was delicious! several people got the fish and chips and raved about each bite. i had the new bedford scallops with asparagus and mashed potatoes and it was really good...tender scallops and creamy potatoes. my mom had the steak and fried shrimp and really enjoyed it. after i tasted her fried shrimp i was rethinking my choice because the breading is so good! perfectly spiced. needless to say, i'd go back here! make a reservation for sure!
