great meeting room in back. we recently held a meeting in the back room and it was perfect. you were connected to the main restaurant, yet a wall blocked the noise so you could hear our meeting conversation. a glass wall to the beautiful arizona center gardens kept you from feeling too closed in.
the server did a good job of keeping everyone's drinks filled and timing our orders. she filled bowls of chips and salsa with a mix of blue and yellow corn and flour tortilla chips. the salsa was pretty good.
we had the salmon and a sweet potato puree served with spinach salad. it was a wondeful tasty lunch.
the chicken sandwich and an enchilada plate seemed popular as well.
i think we will keep this our regular spot for our monthly meetings for the foreseeable future. so, ladies, if you see us there on the third saturday's of the month, come join the fun of the network of business women phoenix.

excellent food. probably the best shrimp tacos (lightly breaded) that i've ever had! too bad the lady bartenders bad attitude left a bad first impression. she really needs some training in customer service.

good value. first off the location and atmosphere is very nice, i'd say sit on the patio if you can (day or night) most meals were averaging around $15 which puts it right in line with many national chains. however i found the food to be better quality and well presented than many of those chains.

the 2-limit drinks are great, i think other restaurants should take note. give me a better quality and better poured drink and i'm happy with only 2. i hate paying almost the same amount for drinks at others places for a watered down or low quality pour. kudos to sams for that.

so overall i thought it was a very good value between the atmosphere, food and drinks.

restaurant within walking distance from many of the downtown hotels which is good because their margaritas are extremely strong. we wanted to try some tex-mex why we were in the area so headed over and had the combination of steak and shrimp fajitas, they were loaded with lots of veggies and also came with rice and beans. steak was a little over cook for my liking. we began with chips and salsa which was good though the chips were different, they were a puffy tortilla chip with a seasoning on it. nice touch bringing your tortillas in a cornhusk along with when they bring your check it has white chocolate with almonds that is wrapped in a cornhusk as well. great outside patio area.

southwestern fare that won't leave you with that "heavy" feeling

my colleagues and i converged at canyon cafe for a lunch meeting and was seated outside on the patio on a lovely "mild" day in phoenix. the day's special were enchiladas with a mole, accompanied by a small salad. four of us ordered the daily special and found it to be well prepared, tasty, and satisfying. the lunch service was efficient, and our waitress attentive. a pleasant afternoon meal.

the canyon cafe serves tex - mex - spanish inspired foods in downtown phoenix. they offer a lovely large patio and big strong margaritas (limit is two). they start you off with an assortment of complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. i had the blacken salmon caesar salad. the salmon was ok but the dressing lacked caesar flavoring and was very similar to thinned down mayonnaise. my husband had the chile relleno stuffed with fajita steak. the steak was good but the paella rice tasted like a box mix that was unbelievably over loaded with strong smoke and the rice was the wrong texture. it's not the best food but it's also not the worst. the complimentary chips and complimentary white chocolate tamale were the tastiest of what we tried.

had carnitas chili relleno. no egg, but lots of cheese and pork. it was not bad. the beans and rice were a bit cold. an ok spot for a conference lunch--they accommodated 10 of us.

the taco chips to munch on we're delicious- especially the yam ones. i had the chile relleno and it was large, plentiful, and delicious. it was nice that there were veggies in the rice/beans mix. i'd recommend going here :)

we stumbled upon this place on accident a few years ago when we were visiting. once we moved down here we couldn't wait to go back. luckily we were able to find it, as we weren't familiar with the area at all the first time. it's a definite go-to place whenever we have company- everyone we take there loves it too! great food, great atmosphere, great service every time.

great food, however the service was horrible- after sitting waiter took 20 mins to meet us, assisting staff ended up taking our drink order after sitting for 15 mins, water, chips and salsa were never refilled. it seemed as once the waiter brought the drinks out he gave up hope for our table. the young lady assisting staff that took our drink order and brought our food was far better than our waiter....
