lovely people, great food and amazing service; good beers, wines and aperitif. kooky and intimate, the basement could be your livingroom. great for after work on friday.

it was delicious. i had a ‘full monty’ (full english, basically, ’cause i’m a fat pie) while everyone else went for something a bit lighter. what can i say? i love me some baked beans! as well as having tasty food and friendly staff, the place is also beautifully decorated with a nice big downstairs. there’s a really lovely atmosphere, and i’d love to come back one night for dinner and drinks. i know that in the summer they put on entertainment, so y’all should make this your new after work hang out spot!

it’s a perfect little summer hangout spot, and truly one of the bonniest wee places in the city

this article was written for the january 2012 edition of bite magazine, and can be found here . if you're planning to do a 'stellar' job on december's food and drink consumption, the pennies left in the coffers for january can be a little tight. many of the city's fancy eateries will be offering discounted dining to get you through their doors, but it's also nice to find a little spot for a bite, perhaps a wee coffee and pastry. forget the follies, foie gras and fine wines of the previous month; it's time for easy eats. café renroc can be found just off the beaten track on montgomery street, a few minutes from the top of leith walk. it's a quirky little place, combining a health and beauty salon (perfect for a massage to kick the january blues), a neat café and larger bistro in the basement. it's one of my fave pit-stops on the way to work, as their morning fare is tops. a flaky almond croissant, freshly squeezed orange juice and latté to go will set me up for any winter's day. at l

under new ownership. popped in recently to discover that the place had been sold back in june i think. we were eating from a very limited, no doubt temporary menu but the new owner was completely ignoring her customers who had paid to be there, while she was noisily showing some students the downstairs area (where we were trying to enjoy a quiet cuppa). also, she was allowing her dog to sniff around which wasn't very hygienic in a place serving food even if it was cute and on a lead. not very impressed and unlikely to go back again; shame as we used to go there a lot
