a fantastic breakfast spot in annerley with a great range of interesting meals and great service. the french toast and rhubarb definitely a highlight.

update: went with two toddlers and got the patio extension area. lots of toys to keep them entertained. enclosed so good for them to run around after meals. close to relatively new toilet block with parents room. lovely food and attentive service.

maybe toys could be a bit cleaner / less worn but still good enough for us!

fast service. we usually get the banh mi, though its more exxy than viet take away banh mi, its quite filling and i leave satisfied
love to come back more often

servings are huge, food is tasty, menu is great - always have the vietnamese iced coffee; dripped espresso over condensed milk mixed with ice. have tried the chicken, crackling pork and traditional banh mi and all are good options. coffees are huge and great value, service is incredibly quick for how busy they always are. great spot!

tried the crackling pork bahn mi and it was incredibly delicious! thoroughly satisfied and with the reasonable prices i'll definitely be back! good coffee too.

12th november 2015 update:
the friends at cafe o-mai have redeemed themselves in my books. i was finally able to taste the omelette and it was decent. a little under seasoned but not a deal breaker.
the coffee is still really decent.
cafe o-mai is the whole package. well done.

ordered the food at 10am, friends food arrived at 1020, my food no where to be found. 1035 enquire as to the progress of my food, assured it is on its way. 1050 friends have finished eating, still waiting still starving. cancelled omelette at 1050.

friends enjoyed their food, coffee was well made.

i will be back in a month to give it another go, fingers crossed they can manage their orders.

the bad review is to show how important service is in the context of modern cafes.

had a quick snack here when i was feeling peckish last weekend and all i can say were their meatballs were awesome. the sauce was not too acidic and was well balanced, the bread roll was fresh and didn't seem like it's been left out for hours. service was good and no issues with the decor. good job, will return again!

cafe o-mai is our new favourite breakfast/brunch/lunch spot!! food is fast and delicious, coffee is amazing and the service is always spot on. love it!

had a great lunch at this delightful cafe yesterday. good food served quickly. i will be back on many occasions.
the green papaya salad was delicious and the pork dim sim steamed (of course) had all the tastes of home made flavours and goodness. finished with a good coffee and in the company of one of my mates. excellent value.

17/2/2017
i was again at lunch with an old schoolmate visiting from california. the food is getting better, the service is always excellent and the value never waivers.

contrary to the taste, the service is extremely poor. we ordered spring roll , ban miah and a charcoal pork at the same time. the 1st 2 orders arrived within 10min. we waited for the charcoal pork for about 20 mins after finishing after 2 meal. it didn't arrive, was informed coz its charcoal pork n it takes time. trying to be patient we waited for another 15 min. spoke to another waiter and he mentioned the same, so there you go we gave in another 15 min and walked to the counter. even after expressing our frustration they mentioned it is done and forcibly included the total bill. ask us to wait for another 10 to 15 min.. had to do takeaway...

outstanding value. fresh ingredients, well balanced flavors and aromatics. 

pho really was 'comfort food' on this cold windy day. fresh spring rolls were very healthy, but i might suggest moisture retention methods be improved when refrigerated. the chargrilled chicken was also brilliant, though the salad could have been better thought through with a stronger dressing. 

finally, timing of plate delivery could have been more mindful, but i appreciate for these prices table service has its limitations. service was very good nevertheless.

would definitely make the trip down again with friends from north of the river.

great quality, very tasty, large portions and cheap prices. pretty good service. what more can you ask for?
would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

came here with the crew for one of our many breakfast gatherings. food matched its value, drinks were fresh and the menu was unique. its a nice location but my meal was a bit stale. the flavours were different. we got takeaway bahn mis for uni and the bread was very chewy- not what we were used to at other places but nonetheless tasty. probably wouldn't go back again because its far from home but the staff are friendly and food was good.

my wife and i decided to give cafe o-mai a second go after receiving less than average food and service almost a year ago now.

in short - the vietnamese iced coffee was good, although the wait staff got our order wrong again. i had ordered one, whereas my wife had not. i had attempted to clarify the mistake when the wait staff repeated my order incorrectly, but she repeated her version of the order again and rushed off. the pork meatballs with quail eggs in the tomato based sauce were good. the regular cappuccino i finished off with was poor and was left unfinished.

the food here is ok, and perhaps above par for the area - which is probably why they are able to remain busy with inconsistent service.

we enjoyed a great breakfast here with amazing coffee, just loved it. the vietnamese influence adds an interesting edge to this great cafe. i had the corn fritters, but was a close call between those & the original viet broths on offer. the fritters came with a refreshing coriander salsa on the side & a sweet chilli jam, all home made. my partner had the meat balls with quail eggs & he said the broth was amazing. will definitely be back to try more of this great food

this is becoming a regular sunday morning breakfast venue for us but, please note get there early because it can become very busy. have tried the pho last visit & have to say it was amazing all the complexities of flavor were there & wow those chillies absolutely the hottest i have had!! (nb you order them as a choice)

bread inconsistencies?. the first time we went we loved the atmosphere, but the sourdough i had with breakfast let down the delicious food! then we were sad to go back and think they were closed, only to find it was renovations and they were operating next door (lotus), delicious and the bread was fantastic! unfortunately, we just went back and it was obvious the lotus bread supplier is different from whatever they're using now. they make amazing food with great ingredients and then serve it to you with nasty grocery store bread. shame!
