extremely disappointing. cafe guanaco had rave reviews which is why we had such high hopes. but since i am from el salvador i can honestly say these were not stuffed more than other pupusas, the filling was dry, there were more burnt sections and crust than there should be. for a whole dollar more than the usual price of pupusas i was extraordinarily aghast at the quality of them. definitely will not come again.

just tried it this noon. very tasty pupusas (we got cheese, shrimp, and flower/cheese) with a spicy coleslaw and fresh juices (i got mango). fried bananas, too. not fast but very friendly staff with the food cooked then and there and served hot. tiny little inside and outside eating areas in what may originally have been a gas station, but very clean if no fancy "ambiance." i want to go back and try their typical breakfast, which she says they serve all day.

love the fried chicken & steak, tasty fried rice, and coleslaw 🍟🍗🍖 it takes time to prepare the meal but it's all worth it. 😉 didn't like the flat corn bread but my bf loves the pupusas. great price for overflowing plateful of foodies! ❤ highly recommend!

i'm always looking for those hidden gems. i've never had a pupusa and this place had some good reviews here, so i gave it a try. the reviews were right, the papusas were really good. two papusas for lunch is about perfect, and will run you around $5, which is hard to beat. they serve them with a cole slaw and a sauce. it's a good lunch.

i also tried their rice and beans, which weren't worth getting. but overall, this is a nice little place. it's a bit out of the way for me, and it's not what i'll drive out of the way for. but if you're nearby and have never tried a papusa, you've got to give it a try.

these papusas are the real deal! this is authentic food at a very low price. the fried platano was average and i've yet to try their soup but the papusas alone make it worth the trip. oh, and the strawberry smoothie was wonderful (actually made with fresh berries). service was very friendly but a bit slow, however, the telenovela helped pass the time so it didn't bother us. i'll be back soon.

pupusas to die for!!! :d. so yummy! we had a hard time finding it because the name "cafe guanaco" is nowhere on the building...it actually has banners over it that say "salvadoran"...very confusing and i'm sure they loose a lot of business from bad branding. we ordered the pork and cheeses, bean and cheese and the shrimp pupusas. the pork was definitely my favorite and the shrimp one had a more creamy filling which i didn't like. we also got the plantains...yum! and the chicken tamale...also yum!! this place was delish and the prices were perfect! i will def go back! :d

best pupusas in utah!. do not pass by this place without stopping in sampling the great food here. don't be fooled by the hole-in-the-wall looks of the place. that doesn't matter. the food, the food, the food! and oh so affordable. try it you'll like it!

it may be a rare day when one says, “we should go out for salvadorian food,” but that could change if you’re stopped at the light at 500 east while driving west on 2700 south. glance out the window and you’ll see a distracting sight: a building on the corner with a banner for fernando’s cafe guanaco proclaiming “salvadorian food,” along with some hunger-inducing pictures. cafe guanaco’s specialty is pupusas —a traditional salvadorian dish made of a thick, handmade corn tortilla filled with a mixture of beans, meat and cheese—and you will find them here in abundance. at $2.15 each, you may think that you will need a few pupusas —until you take your first bite. the dense tortilla is loaded with your chosen ingredients (pork, chicken, shrimp, steak and zucchini are available as the main filling); top it with a spicy slaw and some hot sauce, and you’ll be full. one

cafe guanaco does not disappoint. the owner was so kind and the food is made fresh after your order. this is real latin american food right here, and it is oh so good! pupusas, horchata and a passionfruit drink andrew ordered the carne asada (grilled steak) i had the pollo encebollado (onion baked chicken) we loved our meal. we had so much food and had delicious leftovers the next day! a few standouts from cafe guanaco: their horchata. it was unlike any horchata we had ever drank before. salvadorian horchata is apparently different from other horchatas as it is made with canteloupe melon seeds - it is delicious. next, the refried beans and rice. at your typical mexican or latin american restaurant you might get some beans and rice that have littl

amazing my husband and i were feeling adventurous and wanted to stimulate our taste buds with something new. we have passed by this restaurant many times and due to the unanimous positive reviews on the place we decided to try it out. the owner was warm and welcoming, he takes pride in the quality of the food. we tried for the first time pupusas and were blown away. amazing flavors in a corn wrapping with a side of slaw and hot sauce. we also had the carne asada, which my husband declared as perfectly seasoned. another recommendation would be the horchata which had a different flavor than a traditional mexican horchata. overall amazing el salvadoran food, great quality, tantalizing flavors, and warm hospitality. we will definitely be back.

this place is a hole in the wall that is awesome. the food was really good. we ordered way too much, as the food was filling. we ordered a bunch if different items and everything we ate was phenomenal. we didn't know what a pupusas was before we arrived, now we plan to stop by for them at least once a month.

i can't believe it. best pupusas in town. incredible. others don't hold a candle to this place. they are very moist other places sometimes maybe slightly larger but are dryer & more dough. moreover, this place has a greater variety.

also jose gave super good service. this is the place to get great value, service, & flavor!!

welll done
