the broken shaker was voted #14 in the 2015 50 best bars in the world, so it had to be on our list of places to visit while in miami beach. this is the only bar in miami beach that made the cut (and there are no other in the 51-100 list either).
the menu is short but inventive, and they use ingredients that they grow themselves in the garden of the freehand hostel, where they are based. apparently the menu changes quite often. this time, it was a 'chakras' menu, with a cocktail for each chakra. we tried the throat - blue (leblon cachaça shaken with fresh lime and blue majik algae reduction) and the heart - green (olmeca altos tequila with celery, kale, fresh lime, oregano oil and himalayan pink salt). i also had to order an aviation, which is one of my all time favourites.
the atmosphere is quite romantic, trying to recreate an old cuban/caribbean bar. the collection of bottles is impressive. the bartender was very friendly and gave us another bar recommendation, which we will hopefully follow while here.
