boon boon cafe

i had lunch at boon boon cafe with my son zack yesterday, and i can't stop thinking about how much i enjoyed the food. the cuisine is mostly thai, but they offer some items from other cultures too, such as indian samosas, korean chicken wings, and spaghetti and meatballs (really!). on the boon boon cafe website, there is a vegetarian menu, although they don't have a separate vegetarian menu in the actual restaurant. what their restaurant menu says is that vegetarian substitutes are available. if you know in advance that you'll be going to boon boon cafe, you may want to print out the vegetarian menu and take it with you. i asked about fish sauce in their curries and was told that all of them contain fish sauce except the yellow curry. so instead of curry, i decided to order the prik khing chicken, with tofu substituted for the chicken. in addition to the tofu, this dish consisted of green beans, onions, bell peppers, carrots, and broccoli in a sauce of dry red chili paste, served with

nice clean restaurant with very nice servers. crab fried rice and slow cooked pork are especially flavorful! hidden behind subway on the corner makes it a challenge to find but so worth it-especially with its reasonable pricing!

a friend and i came here for dinner after studying at the uc davis med school library. it was actually kinda perfect, i had a craving for noodles and this place was so close. so the location is kinda sketch and there is parking in the back, but i probably wouldn’t walk here. sad isnt it? i’m scared to walk around certain areas surrounding the hospital i work at? no big deal. fried tofu appetizer lame! so i saw that they have a happy hour and i wanted to order an appetizer but in order to enjoy the appetizers half off, you need to order a drink. we looked through the drink menu (but we had plans to study after dinner) and decided that it was just cheaper to order the regular priced appetizer. i was glad we got this. it was pretty good and crunchy but little lacking in flavor unless you dipped it in the sauce. pad thai the pad thai was decent. i asked for thai hot and got disappointed. i was adding sriracha sauce to my noodles. the noodle

good food but i feel the are meals small portions for the price. the entries come with white rice so when i ordered 2 i end up with mostly rice and not the tasty stuff. i did notice they didn't use basil or they didn't rely on it for good taste. still tastes great but i feel there are better choices out there.

bravo for boon boon cafe. this place is tucked on the corner of broadway and stockton, nice interior and clean. the crab fried rice was tasty but lack vegetables so i ordered a side of them steamed. not the best part of town so one might consider dining during the day.

we ordered four dishes including thai fried rice. we did not know that the dinner entrees each came with a big side of rice as well. this i expected for lunch specials, but i was surprised that it was an automatic for a dinner entree.

needle in a haystack. truly impressed with this small inconspicuous location. the parking seems to be made for oscar mayer hot dog vehicles and the appearance from some 50's diner. i was also suspicious of the wide variety of food on the menu (thai, korean, japanese, chinese) but was set at ease when i tasted my food. very authentic thai taste and am eager to go back and try more.

yum yum. it's got the strangest parking situation you'll find in sacramento and the interior is a mix of 50's diner, pizzeria, and thai restaurant...but the food has been delicious so far and is a bright dining spot in the oak/tahoe park area.

my recommendation for the recent cold and cloudy days is their spicy mushroom soup. its kinda of a sweet and sour, thin broth that punches you in the throat with flavor. i'm still working my way down their menu!

hidden gem. you just have to go .
cafe dining and no great atmosphere but the food is wonderful . great value . try mussman curry - nothing better .
