first off let me say i don't leave a lot of reviews or do i bash restaurants.but i must say the waiter we had was horrible.matthew has no business being a waiter.and a restaurant like this needs top notch staff.the food was good but the waiter killed the experience.

lots of love, but there's a few misses. first of all, i love black sheep, and its decor/ambiance and outdoor rooftop is great. some notable items that are worth getting: shrimp and grits, burgers, lil moo ravioli, salmon and all their sides! someone complained about getting 1/4lb of shrimp for $13 in their lunch portion. fresh caught mayport shrimp is pretty much $4 alone for that portion size, and the sauce and cheeses they use to make it delicious add to it. $13 aint a bad price to have someone cook it perfectly for you.

here's where some of the misses are: i've been vegetarian for over a year now. since then, i've avoid blacksheep, because despite urban spoon saying they're vegan friendly, they're not really. they have a tempeh dish, which may be the worst tempeh i've had. it's incredibly dry and bland and i feel they put little thought or effort into trying with this dish. the rest of the vegetarian options are pretty much salad or the ravioli, which is dairy heavy, so vegans beware. look to cafe freda or 13 gypsies for some great tasting vegan or vegetarian options.

bright spot brunch. black sheep for brunch is a nice diversion to a busy day. the restaurant was about a third full, while most were outside the inside was quiet. even if it was full i would think it would not be too loud. the great use of space gives you great opportunity for people watching while you wait for your meals. to me this is one of the high points of this place. the service was prompt and attentive which after reading some reviews it looks like that was an issue in the past. the day started off with mimosas and bloody mary’s. the bloody mary’s where the hit of the table and i would recommend them if you like that sort of thing. the table had the shrimp and grits, pastrami hash, eggs benedict and the hamburger. all were very tasty; however i must say the eggs benedict were spicy. those who do not strong spices may not like this dish. we did try the fried olives. i would say this is something you can skip. we tried it out of curiosity. it was really not a big hit. the only thing that sort of fell short to us. overall will we be back? yes, we enjoyed the brunch and it made a pleasant day for us. as always your dining experience may vary.

fried egg sandwich. great fusion of flavors to create an awesome spin on a breakfast sandwich!

awesome. this was not your typical american style food, the chef uses atypical seasonings that adds a burst of flavor in every bite. large portions, with reasonably low prices. great spin on brunch.

unprofessional hostess allowed a walk-in (alone without her full party), who arrived in front of us, to select her seating over our reservation, on mother's day. she then admonished our guest when he made a table preference, before the walk-in. the walk-in was provided the table selected by our guest. we drove from orlando.

black sheep is a hard place to overlook when you're walking around riverside. it's unique architectural structure had me curious from the very beginning so i was thrilled to finally try it out! black sheep is an independently owned restaurant that focuses on fresh, local ingredients. one of their main sources of meat is from black hog farm located in palatka, fl. for such a modern, formal looking restaurant i was expecting white tablecloths, wine glasses, and table side service but i was pleasantly surprised to see that you simply order at the counter and they promptly visit your table with the food (hey cool, i don't have to tip). to view their menu click here their menu offers high end sandwiches (such as the duck banh mei) soups, salads, and some entrees all with a sophisticated southern flair. i decided on the mayport shrimp and grits with wainwright cheddar, tasso (a type of ham from louisiana), and

nice addition to the hood. over all this place is a really nice addition to the neighborhood. the food and service are good. both can be great but both can also be inconsistent. the roof top bar does not have a rival in jacksonville in terms of view and drink selection. the view is beautiful, especially while watching the sunset.

incredible indulgence. we tried black sheep for the first time recently and were very impressed. the shrimp and grits were heavenly. creamy grits toped with perfectly cooked and seasoned fresh mayport shrimp drizzled with a delicate and flavorful sauce. it will be difficult to order anything but this dish on my next visit. upon recommendations, we also tried the braised beef short rib and it also was tender and delicious. to start the meal, we tried a few of the appetizers you do not find other places, the fried green olives stuffed with fresh made pimento cheese and the poutine. the olives were original and tasty, but you really have to like olives to enjoy these. the poutine, a french favorite, is probably the highest fat dish you could order anywhere. fresh cut fried potatoes covered with smoked ham, melted cheese curds and coated at your table with the short rib gravy. a guilty pleasure for sure and a filling "snack". the wine and beer selection was perfect. we even tried the decadent chocolate cheesecake for a special occassion. service was outstanding. the bartender, hostesses, busers, and our server, suzanne, were all very attentive, friendly and genuine. we loved the trendy rooftop bar. the only drawback to the restaurant was the noise level and seating arrangment were not good for a nice romantic dinner. overall a wonderful experience and worth repeat visits.

had diner at their rooftop lounge with a couple of friends. had the martinez cocktail which was very good, and for dinner the wild georgia shrimps which were exquisite, and the portion big enough. for desert i tried their marshmallow chocolate cakes (i cannot really remember the name), the presentation was very nice with a flambée touch, but i didn’t feel that it was that special.
staff is very friendly and the ambiance is great too.
