i've lived in north denver since 08'. before root down, before black eye, before "lohi." as the neighborhood has changed, it's been refreshing to see new community focused businesses spring up. black eye has been more than a coffee shop to this neighborhood. it is a meeting place, a working place. there is great energy here for professional people and my wife loves bringing our 8 month old here to meet with other mom's. great curated menu, solid coffee pours and truly a great experience. i will support this small business wholeheartedly as i feel i get so much in return. i recommend you give it a try as well- you might find as we have that black eye embodies what a small neighborhood business should and can be.

i have given this place a couple of chances, but i will never support again.  snobby!  both times i have visited this place, i have been treated second class by the baristas and the people working there.  their "too cool for school," hipster attitudes are killing it for me, and not in a good killing it kind of way.  the coffee isn't anything to write home about, and they overcharge for their food items.  i had a very slimy and runny fried egg on an english muffin.  seriously?  i paid how much for that crap?  both times i visited, i had met other moms there, who also had kiddos and strollers.  you get sideway glances not only from the staff, but from the people on their mac computers who are "remote working," i.e. checking social media pages.  this is all baffling to myself and these other moms as the owner has a toddler.  you would think she would hire more welcoming and courteous help.  also, i may not live in this neighborhood any longer, i lived in highlands before it is the over hyped place it is today, but i will not come across town to get coffee here any more, and i do get across town quite a bit.  i can think of half a dozen other places, in this area, i would recommend.  novo, eh em,,, the two local moms i have met here for coffee also felt similarly, whether they decide to visit again or not i don't know, but seeing the ratings above, i can't be the only unhappy patron.
