we ordered an odd appetizer to share - with a french flair, the baked brie with roasted garlic was gooey and creamy.

bistro italiano is located near union station in a row house behind schneider's liquor store. it is a small restaurant with a mom and pop feel. i ordered the manicotti and it was average. the portions are large and the prices are inexpensive, but you get

delicious!!!

we ate here on our last night in dc and it was our best meal during the whole week. good food, great service. our party of 4 each had a different entree and we all cleaned our plates. two of us also had salads, one cesar and one house. the salads hit the spot as well. we had tiramisu and the chocolate moose cake for dessert. divine. this is a small place so it may not be able to accommodate large parties but i would recommend this place to anyone and everyone. just wonderful.

we found this great place on our last night in washington dc. it has a great atmosphere, the food is fabulous, reasonable prices and the service was fantastic as well! wish we would have found it sooner on our vacation! we would have gone there every night! will definitely eat there again if we come back to dc!

after a long day of tours. finished all day tours around capital and library of congress and we were exhausted with kids. found this place on urbanspoon blocks from capital and found the food to be great and even more the full carafe of wine. also no issues with kids very laid back atmosphere.

excellent italian. my wife and i ate here last night. we had the spaghetti and meatballs and the lasagna and just loved it. it's a small, romantic place that is family owned. they make their own sauce and it's just awesome. enjoy !!!

delizioso!. i went there for dinner last week and had an enjoyable time. service and food were good. i had the mussels with pasta in white wine sauce and the eggplant parmesan. both were delicious. i especially enjoyed the eggplant because the pieces were cut thickly, lightly battered, and the bitterness removed. it was all reasonably priced and it was a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.

closest thing to a checkered tablecloth spaghetti house in this part of town. food is enjoyable and well made but not spectacular. decent neighborhood joint. service can be spotty but it's a small dining room, waiter is never too far.

visited last night, friday, at about 5:30 and was really pleased we were able to immediately be seated and read over the menu. the service was extremely attentive giving recommendations, refilling water, and checking in. good, honest food that tastes home-cooked, quickly served. prices were very reasonable, and their dessert was excellent!

dismal. inexplicably popular. green, boxy dining room feels like a laundromat.

best food within walking distance of senate. bistro italiano is a hidden gem on capitol hill. located in a rowhouse behind schneider's liquor store, this restaurant has the complete mom and pop feel. they probably only have 30-40 seats in the whole place so plan to come early.

the food is excellent. they have authentic pastas for ($6-12) from linguini to tortelli. their pizzas are also high quality and cheap ($12+). bistro even has an expansive kids menu. i've only had their table wine, but i thought it was very good, especially for the price.

at lunchtime, this restaurant is often packed with senate staffers and other dc types from federal agencies who want a sit-down meal. because of it's popularity, seating can be a problem between the hours of 11:30 and 1:30 on weekdays. it's almost always worth the wait. at dinner, i've been able to walk in and get a table without a problem.

enjoy some authentic italian food here. for the price, it simply cannot be beat.
