i booked bishamon for a friends catch up dinner, purely based on googling ‘teppanyaki brisbane’ and bishamon popped up. their menu online also states they have set teppanyaki menus, however when i called to book, i was told it’s not available. i did mention that their website states it is, so just a warning if you’re planning on going here for teppanyaki!
we were a group of eight and waited probably 20 minutes to even be given menus. it’s a pretty small space with lots of patrons packed in so it does get quite busy. our orders were taken and some items were forgotten (such as a green tea). it was also very difficult to flag down assistance and water refills were near impossible to get. finished dining tables remained uncleared for a long time and our plates were never taken away – something i find quite annoying with restaurants. on a positive note, when we ordered, our meals all came out fairly quickly of each other which i know can be difficult in large groups.
but on to the food. the food was good! i shared the gyoza dumplings and they were really delicious. generously filled dumplings, tasty filling and really nice dipping sauce. i loved them. i then had the soba noodle tempura vegetable and prawn bowl. the tempura pieces came separate from the noodle soup which i appreciated because otherwise they go soggy. the prawns were tasty and the vegetables were also nice and crisp although perhaps lacking a little seasoning. the broth was really delicious and packed full of flavour.
the whole group seemed to enjoy their meals – the menu is quite extensive with lots to choose from. i would say the ambiance isn’t overly great and the service requires a lot of attention, but the food is really good.
