tasty but too little to satisfy. i ate here in november, 2013, and ordered the rice and beans with roasted veggies. the portions were small, and the only "beans" were 4 or 5 small lentils.

at birchwood, you make a line and ponder the big chalkboards. you order at the first register and pay at the second. the chalkboard menus, and oh-so-clear about what is gf nice to know! well, to my surprise, there were not just donuts, but several gf desserts to choose from. coconut milk tapioca

not a happy return. birchwood is very popular with my friends, and it has a great atmosphere for relaxed, sit-down dining. my own experience, however, is that the take-out service is rather poor. (former post deleted for being too long and whiny)

the good-natured folks at the birchwood always have some new, local, and super tasty! their turkey burgers are always good, as well as their saturday night pizza deal, their pastries, and not to mention the breakfast waffle!

tasty. they use fresh ingredients in a creative way. i loved the toppings that were on my grass fed burger! can't wait to go back again sometime.

one of the best!. this quaint restaurant is fortunately and unfortunately a bit off the beaten path....it enhances its charm, but makes it a bit difficult to get to! they have some of the most flavorful and unique dishes that i've ever had! and it's very reasonably priced!

underwhelmed. i've tried this place a couple of times and i haven't been impressed at all. i'll go someplace else, thanks.

something for everyone. this is the perfect place for a vegan to go with vegetarian or meat-eating friends. there's something for everyone.

this place has it all! vegan delights on the menu, as much as possible made from organic ingredients, tons of bicycle racks out front to park yours if you brought one or you can rent a bicycle here for $5. urban garden out front has won awards, they keep a bowl of water out for dogs, they recycle, they compost, this place thinks of everything and does it all.

you go inside, place your order at the counter, pay, they give you a number, you find a table and they bring it out to you.

wait staff is friendly and insanely efficient. they are busy bees always buzzing around attending to something but doing it in the friendliest manner. one heard me say to my partner "oh i'd wished we'd found a spot outside" and she hunted out a secret side table for us. the table was full she said to hold on, she was going to get the next open table for us. vip treatment.

the food is outstanding, soy lattes are fantastic, baked goods are a delight. located in a wonderful neighborhood. if i lived in the area and was a vegetarian, i would come here all the time. as a vegan, i'd probably only come here occasionally simply because there's not a big enough variety of vegan options on the menu.

the owners should think about turning this into a nation-wide chain. i think it would be successful anywhere.

great food and enjoyable experience. our first visit; it deserves its good reputation. it's a neighborhood café in a non-commercial area. very simple, but charming. customers order at the counter then sit in the sidewalk seating area or in the restaurant. the wall menu had a good mix of healthy, vegetarian and meat dishes and good wine and beer list. we loved our bean burger (one of the best ever) and the wild rice soup. the counter staff person was very helpful and polite and the servers who delivered the meals and picked up the dishes were very pleasant. pricing was fair, but not cheap. it is one of the many special restaurants that makes minneapolis unique. we'll definitely go back and bring friends.

one of my alltime faves. i always have a great experience at birchwood. love that's it's always full of bicyclists (it's not too far off the greenway.) they specialize in local, organic, creative food. the menu is never the same, i always have a hard time deciding, and i'm never disappointed. coffee's great and service is friendly. the only thing that's a little daunting is getting a table. it's first come, first serve, and on the weekends you'll need to hover until somebody gets up to snatch a table. this also makes it a little hard to go there by yourself, because normally one person orders at the counter, and other other person holds the table. but the food is so good its worth the chaotic experience.

i thought the turkey burger was terrible: bland, and the meat quality didn't seem very good. my wife enjoyed the pork belly entree.

you have to try the savory waffle!

vegetable handpie!. my wife ordered the vegetable handpie and wouldn't share very much of it. i was extremely jealous.
