loved it!. it was amazing! i had the nacho and my friend had the loaded poutine. both of ours were amazing. i spotted jackie the owner in the co-op because she was wearing the big cheese t-shirt and i told her we were headed to big cheese right now. she gave me a card with a discount. what an amazing person! thank you jackie and all the best! love big cheese poutinerie! i'll be seeing ya again!

yum. really interesting new idea. i had the nacho one, i would definitely recommend it. my friends had the notorious p.i.g (he didn't like the sweetness of the pulled pork) and my other friend had one, forget the name (it had too much mustard). the only thing i didn't especially appreciate was that the cheese didn't seem to be melted so it was in huge random clumps. also the fries sort of taste like they were burnt in the deepfrier or something.

well the concept is good!. i recently went to big cheese poutinerie. i thought the poutine was good but was not authentic. if you are looking for authentic traditional poutine, this is not the place. their poutine selection was good but i would have liked to see some of the more common poutines such as the "galvaude" or the "italian" poutine. it is a great idea though! i love the concept.

the price was really good. the atmosphere was very relaxing and the staff seemed really friendly. i would give this place a 3.5 out of 5.

let's just say it should be called gravey soup not poutine. cold gravey over flowing, burnt fries and not enough cheese curds. it's just a place were people try to act hip. save the trip and the money and just get some new york fries poutine.

"the big fail" poutinerie. had heard lots of recommendations from friends, so thought i'd check it out yesterday and get some take-out on my way home. was excited. went in, ordered, got my order and headed out the door.

upon getting home and starting to eat, i soon discovered it was definitely not what i had ordered (the hogzilla), but just a basic poutine. still somewhat tasty (fries weren't cooked well), but yah, major disappointment.

called them up to let them know, the lady awknowledged the screw-up, asked for my phone number, and let me know the manager was on her way in and would call me back and have a gift certificate done up for the obvious error by their staff.

waited, never heard back from the manager last night. never heard back from the manager today. so stopped in after work . . . no manager. one of the owners tho, i assume he was, was in. let him know what happened, he acknowledged he knew about what happened, but then came up with nothing but excuses . . . oh the manager's been busy . . . oh we lost your phone number . . . oh we have crappy retail staff . . . not once did he take ownership of things. so all i asked for was to refund the difference between what i paid for and what i got, that was all. he took the receipt, threw it at the young lady who was behind the counter and said "give him his money back", and then he turned around and walked away.

if that's the version of customer service for a new restaurant that's trying to build business and get customers . . . they really screwed it up big time. i will definitely not be back. they looked promising and sounded willing to make things up for their screw-up, but then dropped the cheeseball big time to a major fault.

"the big cheese"? more like the big fail.

pig poutine was gross, i eat maybe 4 bites and through it out. tasted like ketchup with old meat and gravy saturated fries. not worth the money.

i wanted it to be life-changing..... i really did! but.... it wasn't. didn't compare to montreal poutine. i tried the "traditional" and the gravy was thin and they were stingey with the curd. my advice would be to get the small, because they appeared to recieve more toppings then the large. i'll likely still be back to try some of the crazy dishes (notorious p.i.g.).

big cheese fails in the flavor department. the curds were bland and the gravy neded a lot of salt. this may be good for the yuppie food crowd, i will drive across town and eat at "alberta king of sub" or into the industrial area for "rocky's burgers" for my authentic poutine cravings

another great experience at the big cheese. i am from the east and grew up on poutine. this is the closest i've come to good poutine out here. the service is excellent, and the poutine authentic. i'll be honest, i stick with the basics, but the basics are awesome!!!

we enjoyed the tastiest and yummiest poutine at a local poutinerie called the big cheese. the big cheese has a fun and casual ambiance with excellent service. you can choose from a large variety of toppings including ones with pulled pork, beef, or chicken and you can even custom build your own! we tried the vegetarian poutine, i ordered the veggie nacho and my girlfriend had the loaded veggie, both came with a poutine sauce (gravy) that is low-sodium gluten-free vegetarian. so worth the experience!

in a word: terrible. this place is guilty of the cardinal sin of poutine making: the cheese did not melt.

my wife and i sampled the traditional poutine. the french fries were overcooked, wrinkled and cold: deep rather than golden brown in color, with little to no crunch and deflated, rather than fluffy, interiors. the gravy was on the thin side and nondescript, lacking either a robust beef flavor or any kind of noticeable seasoning. the sparse sprinkling of cheese curds was disappointing relative to the generous portion of fries. worst of all, there was not sufficient heat from the gravy or fries to actually melt the cheese. indeed, some of the cheese curds were still cold!

if countless food vans and roadside dives in quebec can master this dish, i'd like to believe that a calgary establishment could. as it stands, big cheese poutinerie has a long way to go.

fries, cheese and gravy is a simple concept. if you're going to charge $8 for the dish, you better get it right. no amount of "crazy" toppings or hipster appeal can compensate for terrible french fries, runny gravy and a meager scattering of cold cheese curds.

not for me. saw the signs up for this place and was excited to have them open in my neighborhood. but i need to be honest here. i've eaten there twice and probably won't go back. gravy is bland (unless you get the peppercorn variety i.e. on the hogzilla), fries had an undercooked texture and also had very little flavor. this place definitely let me down.

my friend and i lived in montreal and ate a lot of poutine. their product is definitely up to snuff & the interior feels spacious yet cozy at the same time. friendly staff. yay.
