amazing. this place is only a couple of miles from the airport area, and well worth visiting. we had the nutella crepe with bananas, ham&cheese croissant, drinks and a chocolate puff pastry, all for around $18. the fresh orange juice was a nice complement to the flaky, buttery pastries, and the espresso drinks were nice as well. extra points for being child friendly, and you can even practice your french with the staff. great little place.

whoever the lady was that took my friend’s order yesterday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. was extremely rude, abrupt, and heavily lacking in customer service skills. she had no smile on her face during our interaction and did not greet us when we walked in. she seemed annoyed that we interrupted her mopping/sweeping of the floor to place an order. i shrugged off the woman’s demeanor and asked my friend to taste her coffee first, and that would in turn determine if i would also buy something. after handing my friend her watery coffee, the woman pulled her credit card out of the card reader and literally threw it across the counter and walked away. by far the worst customer service i have received in a while. i, obviously, decided to not do business with this cafe and ending up driving to a coffee shop 10 minutes away.

steer clear. i tried giving this place multiple chances but every time, i am disappointed. i'm met with extremely rude, short baristas who seem to hate their jobs as much as i hate their attitudes. the older woman there was kind to me, but the younger women there are just downright rude. besides the horrible service, the place is dirty. i saw a few roaches near the pastries and dead ones around the windows. i went against my gut instinct and got some chocolates, macarons, and an almond croissant. well, they must not rotate their chocolates because then i bit into mine, there was mold in it. i am not joking!! my macarons were stale and not "homemade" as they had promised. the almond croissant was okay but very dry. the salads and sandwiches are subpar, pretty sloppily put together and not worth the money. it seems the only thing going for them is the fresh orange juice...if you can get it as they take apart the machine an hour before closing. in the few times i've gone in there, i've just always had horrible experiences. oh, and don't even ask the girl with purple hair any coffee questions. she'll argue with you over anything and then roll her eyes after anything you ask of her. if you want authentic french pastries and drinks, try le gourmet break or even croissant gourmet.

generally an excellent bakery. they may need to reorganize their cold case, as i ordered the méditerranée(sp?), which has sweet peppers, mushrooms, and confit onion, but received one with broccoli and, i'm pretty sure, chicken. excepting one with grape tomatoes, you can't tell the quiche apart, so i only realized the mistake when i sat to enjoy. the egg and cheese filling was balanced and had a lovely browning while the crust was flaky and scrumptious, but i don't eat broccoli happily and find any animal meat other an bacon a bad choice for quiche, so the experience was oddly unpleasant. i'm going to go again, but this will strongly influence my menu choice.

i recognize that this place isn’t a starbucks – or a coffee
shop for that matter.  the owner and
staff may get annoyed by this simple request on a daily basis, but it still
doesn’t excuse a lack of common courtesy and basic customer service when you
are paying just under $3 for a mediocre cup of coffee.

i ordered 2 large cups of coffee, payed $6.49 with tip, and
walked over to add the standard cream and sugar.  i made one with cream and sugar and, as half
and half upsets my stomach, asked the gal behind the register if they had any milk.  her initial response was “no, just cream” but
after politely asking again, uncovered that they have whole milk as well.  she then took a phone call so i asked the
other person working, who turned out to be the owner, if i could get a splash
of whole milk.

i won’t bore you with the specifics of the back and forth
that exchanged – but the net of it was, the restaurant has milk in the kitchen,
there are 3 milk choices actually listed on the menu signage, and the owner
repeatedly told me i couldn’t have a splash of it because i didn’t ask for it
when i ordered.  no sign indicated i
needed to do that – and i didn’t want steamed milk for a café au lait, i just
wanted a splash of cold milk in my coffee.
she continued to repeat “that’s the way we have always done it” and that
is an unacceptable, and infuriating, response – to a simple request i would
have been happy to pay for had i been told that initially.  instead i was just told “no.”

we are sadly a part of a culture where customer service is
dying, and are made to feel like a pain for requesting simple things like milk
for our coffee.  there was a time in my life
when there was still a level of appreciation for me choosing to spend my hard
earned dollar for a coffee at your establishment.  i am amazed on a daily basis at how little
people care about their guests and their business.  obviously  this does not apply to all businesses – but it
applies to a lot of them.   benjamin
french café is not entitled to my $6 dollars, and they should not make me feel
that way.

needless to say, i won’t be returning to this spot.  my meager $6 may not matter anything to them,
or their business, but it will at least make me feel like i doing something to
take a stand against people who think it is acceptable to be rude and
dismissive to their customers.  and as a
20 year restaurant veteran who is still in the industry, i will use this story as
an example of how not to behave to guests as many times as i can – and to as
many people who will listen.

don't even bother. first off, this profile is wrong because there is no free wi-fi, at least not as of 09/2014.
second, don't waste your time. none of their baked goods are made in house. baguette, all the croissants, the pie crusts for their quiche, macaroons, eclairs, napoleons, and even some of their newer cakes. all of these items are purchased frozen from a distributor then thawed and just popped in the oven each morning, aside from the cooler items which are left in there for lord knows how long and almost everything just tastes like fridge. the best you get is the mouse and tarte filling being whipped up in the back but that probably comes from a powder base. i had a kitchen worker accidentally let it slip that if i wanted more vanilla croissants i would have to come back in an hour so he could take them out of the freezer. i looked the counter girl puzzled and she gave me the honest answer that nothing is made in house, she said even the creme brulee filing is purchased premade. if you ask the owners or other workers they all just nod their heads and repeatedly say they are baked fresh but trust me, they aren't.
the owner's wife has no care for her employees or her guests, food is often messed up and not once have i seen her handle the situation without stomping off or rolling her eyes.
just isn't even worth the trip for over priced, fake product.

we visited benjamin french bakery cafe in downtown orlando on a sunday morning and i immediately felt like i had boarded a plane to france. french influence was everywhere from the french speaking staff to the french candy on the counter. the menu is pretty typical of a french cafe- croissants, quiches, omelets and baguette sandwiches.

pretty good. the food was definitely of french quality, very delicious.

however, when i was served my espresso in a paper cup and my food on a plastic plate, with plastic ware, it greatly detracted from a true french experience. you would never get plastic in france. in my humble opinion, it would be worth the cost to add it. i believe this cafe would be absolutely phenomenal if they went the distance.

super flavorful and french. my boyfriend and i have been meaning to try this place for a while. well i moved into thornton park this past weekend and we made a point to go there for brunch on sunday morning. best decision ever.
we both ordered a full omelet. his had bacon, tomato and spinach feta while mine had chicken, bacon and sweet pepper. both were absolutely delicious and full of flavor. we added a croissant to one for a buck and shared it. spectacular croissant... flaky and crispy on the outside but buttery and moist on the inside.
i caught sight of their croughnut (croissant/doughnut pastry combination) and felt it necessary to order one as well. you get the filling option of either vanilla creme or nutella. nutella won over and the croughnut was a sweet ending to our meal.
i'm also a bit of a coffee lover. i drink mine black and truly enjoy the taste of it. i can tell you that while benjamin french's black coffee may not be cheap, it is truly worth it. smooth and flavorful.
we are definitely going back to try other things on the menu.

a true french bakery and café in downtown orlando!. i stopped in for breakfast after the turkey trot 5k on november 28, 2013. i can't believe it has taken me so long to try this place!

i ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant ($5.85) and a hot green tea ($2.99). the sandwich hit the spot - it was served on a hot, buttery, and flaky croissant with egg, swiss cheese, and crumbled bacon......magnificent and delicious!

all of the employees i encountered were friendly and welcoming. they had wonderful french accents, which added to the authenticity and ambiance of this cozy and quaint café. i definitely look forward to trying this place again!

benjamin french bakery & café is located on east washington street and hill avenue, just east of north summerlin avenue in the trendy and fashionable thornton park district of downtown orlando.

great way to start the day. i decided to try this establishment after the numerous glowing reviews. i definitely was steered in the right direction.
i stopped by the café shortly after their opening on sunday, july 7. i tried their almond croissant and café latte. the croissant was flaky, light and with just the right amount of sweetness to start the day. the latte was stronger than i would have expected but, was a good counterbalance to the croissant.
the restaurant has a contemporary look with high top table and chairs and extra seating outside for al fresco dining. this is a nice addition to the thornton park neighborhood. the restaurant is located at the corner of will and washington streets.

such a nice little place. very clean and well decorated. benjamin is there at 4am every morning. he makes everything there. i had an almond croissant which was completely perfect and the best latte ever. my husband had an apple pastry and my daughter had a chocolate croissant. both of them thought there could have been more filling. overall fantastic authentic french bakery.
